  4. Okay guys I've received a few queries about what is my avatar so here's the backstory - The 3DO never got a major Australian release , however , for a number of years Goldstar had been trying to crack the market with various products via import agents. They had some sucess with their TV's through some discount retailers but not the credibility they wanted. So in '94-'95 a few importers had some Goldstar 3DO's destined for Hong Kong modified with Australian power plugs and released it via a handful of independant gaming stores. It was very expensive and very niche - it also had the issue of being NTSC although the voltage was 240v! So it limited its user base even more. I bought one of these on first release back in late '94 - unfortunately even brand new it suffered serious reliabilty issues - common with Goldstars first 3DO run. So this brings me to my Avatar - it is an Australian release Goldstar that had a custom display cabinet made for it by a boutique gaming store. There were no Kiosks made available to the retailers so this one made his own. It is a beautifully made cabinet complete with a Goldstar CRT TV! it was used as a store display for a number of years but is still in exceptional condition. I don't know its value as the cabinet wasn't made by Goldstar but its history must account for something and thus this one of a kind is an important part of my collection.

  15. actually the best off the shelf options are the third party logitech controller , the hori controller or using snes controllers through a third party multi tap . I use all three from time to time depending on game
  16. In actuality all I want is a copy on a cart I haven't seen it for almost 20 years. Cheers A Crap, Shawn Sr. could make one I'd think... he makes repros all the time. I can play it on my flash cart from Retro USB... but I'd pay for it as a collectors item if made into an actual homebrew release where you got paid for your work. I think that 100+ people would be glad to shell out $50+ if it came with a box. AX agreed - I'dbuy it for that if proceeds were going to Andrew - if only to correct this situation
  17. I recently bid on (and won) a large box of 3DO gear from Japan. It cost $200 US to ship so no one bid - I got it for the reserve of $50 plus the shipping cost. Inside was a mint boxed Fz-1 , 4 loose but working Fz -1s , over 50 Japanese release games (some rare) and about half dozen extra controllers! Already has paid for itself from the sale of 3 of the loose consoles!
  18. Oh, i see. You mean games like Wolfenstein 3D and FIFA, it sure as hell ran those type of games really well. It would be nice if someone with knowledge of the 3DO hardware could tell us a bit about its 2d capabilities. Any 3DO experts here?. I have never been able to find info on the 2 video processors the 3DO has, what did they call them?, animation engines or something like that? I am by no means an expert and will seek further info but I believe that the two processors were primarily designed to handle cell animation and sprite rotation (similar to mode7) Take a close look at how the 3DO handled the game Casper and the transparancy cells Or how it handled the sprites in Madden I'll check with the guys back at 3DO zero to confirm
  19. Like a lot of Japanese "games" available on 3DO it's more of an interpretation of a traditional game. Ie this one is almost a virtual tarot card reader for want of a better term ! In the west it is oddball - in the east it was a cheap to produce and familiar money spinner.
  20. No! but I'd hate to see the result after a head on collision between the two LOL
  21. I'm up to 180 titles and still haven't scratched the surface! Thanks for this KevinCal - your work is appreciated !
  22. Yep - that about sums it up - most manufacturers just decided it was too much effort to sell 240 volt PAL equipment to a relatively small consumer base across the waves. Conspiracy theorists also point to the fact that most retail sales here are done through majors with monopolies and deals with other majors. PS2 sales reached about 2 million here - DS over a million - so its not like there isn't a market. It sucks being so close to Asia but not able to reap the rewards - instead settling for dumping of European products which are overpriced due to shipping by the time they reach us.
  23. eBay Auction -- Item Number: http://myworld.ebay.com.au/kryptonite.culture.shop/ I currently have on ebay the following: 1 x Japanese FZ-1 + virtual quest used but good condition 1 x NEC PC Engine boxed and in excellent condition (some yellowing) 1 x Sega Saturn PAL 240v Australian model boxed with an extra 3rd party controller + 2 games (original controller cable is frayed but working). Unit itself is in great condition. A selection of Master System games inc Thunderblade and Super Hang On in good condition. they are on sale through my favourite local store Kryptonite comics if anyone has any questions about these items or if you live in Australia and are searching for anything in particular (esp 3DO) feel free to PM me!
  24. Yeah unfortunately I've been lmited to flea markets (usually master system , genesis/mega drive , 2600 and N64 carts in various condition) cheap but nasty. There are some 2nd hand/pawnbrokers but only one in my city will touch anything older than PS2 or Xbox - the same goes for EB and Game. One chain that does is Gametraders but their stores are few and far between and dont carry a lot. I was hoping someone might have had the address (brick and mortar or URL) of someone reliable and independant. I'll keep looking !
