  1. Can I get in? If so, PM me. I'll pay immediately.
  2. Maintaining systems at the component level. Wow.
  3. Do we have an official name and branding for this yet? If not, does the honor belong to anyone in particular? Perhaps we could hold a community contest for branding and label design?
  4. Donation made. Come on people, get in there and do it.
  5. Basically one really smart, motivated guy, supported (substantially) by another three or four guys and we have a piece of software that could have made all the difference for Atari if they had been either smart or motivated enough to develop it; especially at a time when they really needed something to make a difference. I mean, something like this would have really spurred third party application support, which would have pushed the hardware platform forward. I mean...aw forget it. I qalways get emotional about the 8-bit.
  6. Hit me on PM. I would *love* to be able to look up and see it on my shelf in those moments I need inspiration.
  7. I think Rybags sets it straight. A 6809 Atari is an entirely new machine, and one that would have been both practically and commercially unviable at the time that such a machine would have been under consideration. I have to agree with the points extrapolated out to the 68000 as well.

  9. The first time I saw Agony on the Amiga 1200, I was blown away. From splash screen to ending credits, the game was ku-ray-z.
  10. Just a little more on the MSA. It stands for Magic Shadow Archiver. It is a backup software for the ST. Proprietary archive format.
  11. I'm the village idiot. I'll do it. WTF is wrong with you!!?? This is an Atari forum. Atari 4EVER. C64 suck0rz!! Better?
  12. Missile Command using one finger to aim and the other to launch would be super-cool.
  13. "Transferring [the files over SIO2PC], while expeditious, and certainly painless, might not be, in a manner of speaking, the [Atari] way." - Col. Nathan Jessup, "A Few Good Men"
  14. What is the use case for this tool? In other words, who would use this and why?
  15. As far as you being in L.A. soon, will you be there with friends or family? Have it shipped to them. Or, if you will be staying in a hotel, tell them you are having a package shipped to you there for pickup on your arrival.
  16. I'm looking for a CIB "Alternate Reality - The Dungeon" for 8-Bit Atari computer systems. I know what I'm asking for. We can come to a price that makes it worth it.
  17. When I see the kinds of things that geniuses are doing on the Atari 8-Bit, I can't help but regret the cost, in terms of raw computing power, of abstraction layers, operating systems, and code reusability. I mean, if you could somehow quantify, as results against hardware capacity, projects like this demo, Numen, FJC's GUI, Project-M, and Space Harrier, and then extrapolate that number out to the relative hardware capacity of today's desktop computer, you would come up a number that must mean we aren't getting any bang for our hardware buck. I wonder why someone hasn't written a dedicated microkernel OS as an includable library of functions for bootable applications. Can you imagine what the same minds that continue to push the Atari 8-Bit to almost unbelievable effects would do with metal-level access to the x86/64 platform?
  18. I think it might be important to distinguish between something that is an "upgrade" to the system and something that makes it an entirely different system altogether. The question was asked, "Is it still an Atari 8-Bit?" If it will still run all of the software written for the unmodified system, then it IS still an Atari 8-Bit; just one with an "upgrade" that gives it new abilities. Fair. But if the system does NOT run all (reasonably) of the original software, then no, it is not an Atari 8-Bit. It is a new system based on the Atari 8-Bit. Maybe? Anyone?
  19. I <3 flashjazzcat (in the strictly "intelligent articulation", "Atari God" contexts)
  20. I am definitely in for one. Ready to pay. Let me know.
