It seems like the NES had it's time fetching high prices on eBay. I think maybe the Wii and its virtual console had a hand in killing that off a little bit. It used to be that you could bundle a NES with some controllers and SMB/Duck Hunt and get $50-60. Of course the bad economy probably also has something to do with it.
Craigslist is a good option because you can ask whatever price you want, and can keep re-listing your stuff indefinitely, and it doesn't cost you a dime. The down side is some of the people you may end up having to deal with.
I haven't sold anything on eBay in a long time. I started selling on there in 2000, and it has steadily gone downhill since then. Ebay seems to have made it clear that they prefer professional eBay sellers over little guys like us just trying to sell the occasional item, so I decided to take my toys and go home. I stick to selling on CL and (mostly) on forums now.
Aside from all of that rigamarole, I stick by what I said earlier about bundles. Bundle stuff that won't sell on it's own.
Chris
Yeah, thats true Ebay does seem to favor the "big dogs" but to be honest I prefer and mainly look to purchase/bid from the little guys (with good feedback of course). They seem to take more pride in their products and the customer service is normally greater.Plus, you can get a fairly better deal.

I tell you what, when you do find out the best way to sell those please let me know
. I've never had too much luck with NES and the Genesis on Ebay unless it was something everyone likes like Contra or Mario 3 and so forth..I always seem to do pretty decent when I go the Craigslist route when comes to those systems
Y, this has been my experience as well. That is why I am thinking of marketing ploys to get people to bite, and possibly at higher dollar amounts. One thing I might try is to sell custom modded systems, maybe even with new paint jobs, and maybe "themed" with a particular grouping of game carts. Mods would be things like stereo sound output jacks and blue LED on a NES console, and maybe package a Super Mario Bros. system, say with SMB1, SMB2 and SMB3 included. Maybe then I could garner some interest and sell for a fairly nice dollar amount. Does this sound like a good plan, or one bound for failure?
Yeah, I would definately go the "theme"/ mod route for the NES..but locally, themes don't seem to matter much. You could run a 30 day post on Ebay for the mods/themes at a set price obo to attract potential buyers. Then all the commons/sports games and unmodded systems you can sell locally as a bundle for a fairly cheap price because you don't have to pay fees or ship.

To those that say emulation sucks
You take away emulation (and the market it serves) you take out a significant portion of those active in classic and retro gaming and computing
remembering that atari only sold so many A8's/A ST's etc, 26/52 and 7800's, lynx, Jaggies etc which means that unless new compatible hardware comes to the fore (like a flashback 3 etc, which in all intense and purposes is a hardware emulator) the market will not grow
And since you don't like emulation/emulators and what they represent it means you have to take out those that have things like gp2x, dingoo, tv game joystick things as well as flashbacks and those knock off asian console and handheld jobbies....again taking another slice out of the classic and retro gaming and computing market
Lets face facts shall we, we need the emulation market (both h/w and s/w forms), it brings new people in to experience the very systems that you people and i grew up with, take away emulation and you bring no new people into the market, also something you seem you have overlooked, you take away emulation, you take away a significant portion of software development for the very systems we care about, since the growth of emulators has meant an increased amount of software development for the very platforms that are emulated
And as we know, unless your'e prepared to sink in several 00,000 pounds/dollars/euro;s etc into reintroducing these hardware platforms...no one in their right mind is going to want to reintroduce these hardware platforms, after all you will only be selling to the same 40-50 people each time (remembering that you don't want emulation/emulators and the market that represents)...thats the facts of the matter
Yes, indeed everything you've stated obviously is very well correct and well put. As I am a fan of Flashbacks, plug ins, etc, etc. Emulators can be a good thing if not great for purposes of testing games before purchases and many other purposes we are ALL aware of. I just can't help but to think what Crazyace above has mentioned above that could very well be true if technology/emulation advances past what we all have once been accustomed to. Yeah, Im sure there will be converters and so forth for consoles for gameplay and for sure there will be emulators for our so-called convenience but as technology progresses the younger group will feel "what the hell do we need actual consoles for if you can just simply pull up your emu on your CPU" not knowing or even realizing that it's not even close to what playing the actual hardware/software is like. Therefore consoles of our days simply could become obsolete and die off
(maybe not by 2020 but probably not too soon afterwards)In conclusion, Yes we do obviously do need emulation in order to progress in technology and to expand what we have already succeeded, but emulators/emulation sucks (IMO) when it comes to such use strictly instead of consoles to be a stable substitute for gamers in the future as that has already been done.

Emulation , and changing TV standards will eventually kill off old consoles. After all in a few years TV's wont have analogue RF inputs, so they won't be able to tune the really old consoles in.
Good point, I just hope that does'nt really happen though..Considering (IMO) emulation sucks.

2500 ET carts (even with CIB) would be lucky to go for $500. 2500 Malagai carts (cart only) might go for maybe $20,000. 2500 Video Reflex? maybe $100,000.I didn't really think 2500 prices would go up much when I started collecting 12 years ago, but they certainly have.
Soooo. how much are 2500 carts actually going for these days??

I'm guessing you'd be lucky to even score a 2500 Heavy Eighter for your first born or your soul..

Somebody has been visiting Digital Press
.I thought this damn thread looked familiar

Yeah, I figured people here would notice the thread, but I was curious as to what people here on AA had to say considering this is by far my most active and most respected site.

Gu-asp! A proto! Tempest must hear of this!Quick!!..to the Atari mobile!!

You found the Pitfall Easter egg! Good job. Funny stuff.
If that is an Easter egg, then how does a person get that ending?
That would be one helluva Easter egg. Sadly the only way to get that ending is to have your wife cheat on you while you are out jumping across pits, scorpions, et al in real life. Either that or make one major hack of Pitfall.

LMAO..Yea in that version he'd be hackin' his wife afterwards..

I guess that could explain his weight gain on the coleco version...
That would make one sweet T-shirt

I was on a couple sites earlier this evening looking for some 7800 carts and came across I quess, an unreleased game call Night of the Ninja.. What an AWESOME 7800 game title
!..Until tonight i've never heard of it. Even here on AA..So I did a little research and I found some checklist in an Atari Mag clip saying it was coming soon..Anyone got any info, screenshots, or anything else interesting about this supposedly unreleased game? -
You will not find a loose copy of Contra Force for any less than $35 in good shape.
Thank you sooooo much for that helpful information..For all you know that could be what Im willing to pay. I'm talking about people on Ebay who are wanting 45 bucks a piece or more. Please only respond if you have these games and are willing to sell/trade. I don't need people telling me how much I won't find games for.

Wow, settle down Tiger. For all I know you had no clue what it goes for outside ebay. Sorry all around, I'll be sure NOT to send this link to my friend who does currently have a copy to sell.

My 3 year old was sitting on my lap and told me he wanted to play a racing game so I opened Pole Position. He wanted to see more cars and I told him the things I was passing were cars and he told me "Those aren't cars, those are just fences." I thought it was pretty funny (and I could see why he would say that). Anybody else have kids make unexpected commentary on a 2600 game?
BTW, we went on to play Enduro which he loves to watch (especially the snow level) too bad I suck at it.
GideonsDad

This is the true ending...

Fried AC Adapter?
in Atari 2600
Posted
O.K. so I hooked up my Vader and played Turmoil for about 15 mins (which at first no response from joys, then all the sudden they worked)
then popped in River Raid, noticed the land was blue not green
then turned off the system for about 5 mins. or so and when I turned back on, no power.
The AC adapter was extremely hot but obviously not shooting juice. I tried my extra adapter and it worked fine(both are Atari brand), although colors are still off. I'm guessing adapter fried? Can anyone please shed some light on what might have happened?
Also can you use an alternate power supply(non Atari brand) with same or similar voltage? I've googled all possibilities but nothing really on point. Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can spare.
