  1. That's from the left nipple of my favourite naked lady picture. I zoomed it 8x just so you'd get a better idea of how amazing she looks.
  2. Just to go totally off subject here but.. I vote this thread gets locked, a new thread with the original scope be opened (if anyone wants it still) of comparing games, not arguing about systems. And then we can start new threads on individual games that people want to talk about converting. Maybe a sub-forum for those? This thread is far too massive for anyone to read and has so many threads in itself weaving around and talking about things that are not much to do with each other it'd be better to kill it. Pete
  3. The two other pictures were from Fist 2 afaik Fist only has 4 backgrounds. Fist is one of my favorite ever games and it's one I might have a go at porting (amongst lots of other stuff I'd like to do). I'd spoken to Ste last night on MSN about the possibility of doing it and I'd come to the conclusion that software sprites with PMGs underlaid for colour then colour splits and PMGs for the background colours. It's all very feasible but when you start to do it I can almost guarantee it being more complex than you think when you start Once again (seemingly a necessity for the A8 at least in my mind) you need a dedicated graphics app/converter that would give you the control you need to build a background using some "tricks" but need to take into account the PMGs you're using for the 2 players. You'd have 2 more 8xsreen height (expandable to 32x) and the missiles 2x (up to 8x). Then when your background is drawn using these methods, drawing the players over the background becomes trivial again. Pete
  4. Ahh, The Meanteam will take over your forum and turn you into C64 loving folk Alternatively The Meanteam will end up doing demos/games on the Atari. I think the latter is more likely If we waited 2 years to do a demo it could be the 25th anniversary comeback
  5. They're both amazing, especially on A8 with the extra cpu time. Definitely one up for Atari I remember seeing stuff about RoF when it was still called Behind Jaggi Lines I think most of the Lucasfilm/arts stuff was better on the A8. Love the Ballblazer tune too
  6. I know, I think we're just at cross purposes. I'd hoped that some people would know that I know whats going on and didn't really need it all explaining. I'm not trying to say "I don't give a shit about all these peoples amazing code, hard work and clever ideas for coming up with this stuff in the 1st place". All I'm trying to say is if I don't like it, explaining something to me that I already have a fair idea of isn't going to change my mind. Just like I don't give a rats about flash cars and things. Doesn't mean I'm not impressed by them and also doesn't mean I don't know how a car moves.
  7. But I still get the feeling you're trying to change my mind about what I personally like You know that I know what you're saying. I'm just saying that I can not like some stuff for whatever reason I want and it matters not one bit to me if every other c64 coder in the world thinks its the bees knees
  8. Sorry fella but you can't tell me what I like in a demo Granted most of the new demos from the top groups have some coderporn, but if I don't like the way its presented then it means nothing to me, as it would mean to anyone who isn't a coder anyway.
  9. Yup, I totally understand about getting corrected for what is admittedly a big mistake like saying only 8 sprites, but in my defence at the time I'd only seen the crap quality youtube video that people were going LOOOOOK make your machine do that. To me, from that most of the stuff was char based software sprites and there didnt look like there was much going over zones. Also the level 2 stuff looks a lot less complex than the one with the asteroids and once again I came here to defend the atari and to say that demo didn't look that impressive. There's still a fair amount of flickering on the sprites and the ones standing on the background arent in sync with the scroller (at least on the emus). I've just got a bit annoyed on here over the last few days because I've been in a bad mood about other stuff, then I get people correcting me for the 2nd time then when I try to help a noob coder by giving him some sensible, easily readable, understandable code, I get hey u can make that faster, and smaller and etc etc lol I'm sure a lot of us know how to code but this whole forum seems like a battleground. So, ok from now on no more guessing numbers of sprites, no telling people I think one thing is better than another. I'm just here to learn about the A8 and try to apply some of my skillset to coding something on it Pete
  10. Oh yeah, don't get me wrong it's good there are new/better techniques else the whole thing would stagnate. That's why I still love the C64 so much but what I'm not keen on is demos that have 1 clever thing and just show it over and over and over and look we can change a colour on it.
  11. That's the one, ta was driving me mad trying to remember.
  12. Maybe theres some way to sample the signal before it gets to the tv and fix it up there
  13. What did you do with those pictures? Just change the palette? If so then yeah the c64 could've looked prettier but it was the hardware design that produced those colours. I don't think they chose such weird shades on purpose they kind of said ok here's the design for the colour hardware now what can we make it do? In this respect the A8 kicks its ass SID, I can't agree about things sounding dull. Maybe newer tunes where it seems to be the style but just go and listen to Ben Daglish, Rob Hubbard, Galway, MON etc Pete
  14. Like I say, the best demos these days (imho) are the ones with just that bit more style.
  15. lol I just thought this was all in the past now, I've had my say, other people have had theirs, it's in the past. The idea now is for ME to prove my ideas, code etc. I can't be dealing with people constantly having a pop, it was like it back in the 80s, obviously nothing changes lol It's no wonder this thread is 277 pages of mostly arguments
  16. What was that demo recently with the 2 images of the woman, maybe holding a sid chip or something and the picture wiped between the two using some expanding circles? I loved that one.
  17. Christ, here we go again. 1st post, welcome to the forum. If u can read enough of the thread to see my messages then please also take note of the parts where other people have already corrected me on the number of sprites. Not multiplexed as far as I can tell so once again, simple to do. I haven't forgotten how slow the 6502 is, I remember very well, I wrote my own 6502 emulator not too long ago. I said I'd got a fast software sprite routine, as in fast for the 6502.
  18. hehe but of course C64 guys are going to want to get straight at the A8 palette and what better way than a plasma
  19. hehe yeah, we love our Commie It's full of pretty stuff, yet again but yeah the same pretty things as most demos for a while now. I remember seeing Deus Ex when I first got into c64 stuff again. The last demos I'd seen were back when I was coding in the mid-late 80s. I was blown away, even more hardware tricks, some nice fast routines but even since then nothing has changed much, now it's all about style. If you're going to do the same tricks, make sure it all fits together. This demo for example, from the first thing where the bar wipes across the screen to later where the same thing wipes between two pictures. I like it. But yeah, twisters, roto/zoomers etc are getting a bit boring. Pete
  20. I don't think anyone would say you can't do it a certain way if you've worked out how to do it, just everyone has their own way of coding things, as long as they work none of them are wrong I say good luck to you
  21. Emulators for now. I don't have any A8 hardware but I'm on the look out for some now on ebay but it seems pretty thin on the ground in the UK It is nice to just write code in Eclipse, press a key and have it compile then launch the emulator and run it
  22. Indeed, the background is the more complex thing to begin with and how that is done will probably have an effect on how the sprites would be coded.
  23. Just curious...where there any differences between the older and newer SID's or any improvements Though commodore didn't get around to getting the c65 into the marketplace, did they try salvaging any of the hardware (like the updated VIC II or 'stereo SID' as i believe commodore called it) Hows things coming on with the A8 programming The 8580 is more like the original design for the chip. They cut some corners making the 6581 and 8580 was eventually produced to address this. It can do more mixing of waveforms across channels and some other stuff (can't quite remember atm, I'm sure someone will have the info handy though). One of the problems with "fixing" the 6581 is that sample playback (using the volume register) was very quiet on 8580 chips. A8 coding is coming along. I'm reading manuals, coming up with some ideas, talking to a friend about graphics. Learning how to do stuff that on the C64 I can remember from 1985 lol
  24. Yeah, we already ascertained this. Honestly I'm beginning to think I can't post on this forum without someone trying to argue with me or correct me in some way, even if someone else has already done it. lol Maybe I'm just paranoid
