c64 conversion of Crackpots has gone to beta testers
STE'86 replied to STE'86's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
no each game is unique and converted from the ground up with no "emulation". the 2600 is so unique in its display method that it would be impossible to do that. The c64 and atari a8 however are not a million miles apart regard their display resolutions etc. and there isnt that much graphic data to convert as these graphics fit into a 2600 cart -
c64 conversion of Crackpots has gone to beta testers
STE'86 replied to STE'86's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
as I said previously, the source code for this will be available when released as are the other 2600 to c64 conversions we have done already. Chopper Command, Keystone Kapers and Frostbite. these are afterall 2600 games so converting the display code graphics to a8 from c64 should not be an immense task. the hard work of game logic has already been completed. perhaps even Emkay who vociferously tells everyone else on here how to code their game displays ad-nauseam could get off his arse and do something useful instead of just telling everyone they are doing it wrong? -
c64 conversion of Crackpots has gone to beta testers
STE'86 replied to STE'86's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
its already in there. but many a8 folks who also play our stuff dont always visit there regularly. hence its posted here, on the 2600 and on the c64 forum. -
c64 conversion of Crackpots has gone to beta testers
STE'86 replied to STE'86's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
When finished, the coder Antonio Savona will as usual release the source code for the game so there is no reason that one of the a8 coders on here couldnt convert it in fairly short order. the graphics would work with a bit of tweaking. most of them being limited to 16x8 and 16x16 sizes. -
i know its controversial to post c64 stuff on here but i also know that quite a few of you have played our other atari 2600 conversions so here is the vid of the latest one.

Unicorns season: Prince of Persia for the A8!
STE'86 replied to rensoup's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
the c64 art reduced to the same 5 colours with plenty of scope at the top of the screen for some creative colour rastering above the column tops to give the illusion of more colour. -

the DLI demo... there appears to be more that 4 colours in that as the raster effect is thru one grey but not another? -

STE'86 replied to rensoup's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
yeah the backgrounds are basically 4 colour plus effects on anything but the bedroom art and title screens are very much "free pixelled" so i would guess the c64 art would convert to 4 colours easier because the c64 palette has 3 luminosity levels plus black so any given colour will convert to either light, medium, or dark plus black which would be handy in converting it to 4 colour atari bitmap. the beeb has no such luminosity and all its colours are full on rgb so converting it will be more painstaking. -

when you get to the cutscene stages, if any of the c64 art would be of use as a base, PM me, its probably alot easier to convert the c64 stuff to 4 colours and add colours by raster than it will be to decipher the pixel dither patterns of the beeb colours. -
you can indeed push and hold and the little guy will pogo up and down the screen yes.

the igloo door flashes at only at night as its quite apparent in the daylight mode when a large black hole appears on the white igloo but not so much in the night mode, so it flashes then.

Bob Whitehead, the Kitchen brothers and Steve Cartwright. a small group of us are doing c64 conversions of early activision games that were never ported back in the day. so far we have done Chopper Command and Keystone Kapers and are shortly to release Frostbite followed by Pressure Cooker. facebook messages from none friends being the appalling mess that is is, we are looking for people already on their friends list with a view to informing them about the projects and hopefully getting their blessing for this not for profit venture. any help would be appreciated.
