1010 Field Service Manual and Repair Help
pseverini replied to pseverini's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
What happens when you try to use the advance button? Does it try to advance the tape or does the key not stay down or what. Mitch It could be the advance button is not making a solid contact when you push the button down. Personally I hate my 1010's. I have two. One works great (Taiwan) the other (Hong Kong) I could never get the play to work. Reference: Trobule with 1010 I opened her up and I manually applied pressure to the contacts where the button hits. The button is engaging the mechanism fine. There's a small metal pin that spins when I press the Advance button. It just seems the main gear does not engage for the wheel like it does when I press Rewind. Mitch, I have two as well. Both from Hong Kong. The Play does not engage as well on both of them. I'm not sure if the Play should work or not. -

The contact switches seem to be working fine because they're used for the other buttons as well. The main motor is not running when the two contacts are made. There's one contact switch which is shared between Rewind and Advance. They both also have their own contact switch which is triggered when the button is pressed down. I made sure both contact switches made contact. I can get the Rewind to work fine when I use the same logic. -

Atari 1010 Technicians Does anyone have a copy of the 1010 Field Service Manual? Has anyone ever repaired a 1010? I need some help debugging the ADVANCE button on the tape drive. All of the other functions work except for the ADVANCE button. Thanks.

The 810 works like a charm on another 800. What leads you to believe the POKEY chip might be the issue? Thanks. -

Thanks. Good stuff. What type of ouput levels should I see on the meter? -
Atari 800 System Repair Schematics or Manuals

Great, thanks. Is there any way to test that chip to see if it's failing? Is the chip located on the main board? What diagnostics can I do to confirm it's the 6520 PIA besides swapping out the chip with a new one? Would the SALT diagnostics tell me anything? What's the best utility for diagnosing the 800? While I have your attention...I just replaced an 810 DS side board in my drive to repair it. Have you identified any chips which are going bad in the side boards? I appreciate the help. -

Atari 800 Owners, Does anyone have a copy of the 800 system repair manuals or schematics? I'll take a copy of the SAMS or Atari original. I can't seem to figure out why my SIO port is not working with my 810 disk drive. Has anyone come across a bad SIO port on the 800? Any pointers? The 810 drive and cable work fine on another system I own. The 800 systems seems to power on and work fine except when I need to access the 810 disk drive. Thanks.

Thank you. That confirms it.

Atari 810 Owners I'm adding a new 810 DS board to my 810 and I ran into a question. Does anyone know if the "L" bracket sits under or over the RF sheild? The 810 Field Service Manual shows the "L" bracket which is screwed (2 screws) to the DS board as under and over the sheild. Can some one take a peek and let me know where it sits. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can find information on the 810 test points located on the boards to do diagnostic testing? I see tons of numbered test points on the 3 cards (TP1-TPx). Does anyone know what the TP points represent? Thanks.
-
Ah yes, thanks. Seems like they should have used the holes on the bottom in place of the plastic tabs on the top.
-
Just a phillips head screwdriver, but via the holes on the top of the case.

Thank you.

Thanks, will try. This is my first 810 so I'm a little green. I pulled the plugs from the bottom off the drive. What type of tool is needed to get the case off?

All, Does anyone have any experience with repairing an Atari 810 Disk Drive that does not seek upon start up? The drive actually powers on, but none of the drive mechanics seem to be moving. The busy light never lights up. I'm also looking for a copy of the 810 Field Service Manual. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
