NO POLITICS

No worries @roots.genoa, others got the joke. 🤠 This was in that lengthy press release as well:
-
"Ignore user" would have that effect. https://atariage.com/forums/ignore/ Or using an Adblock extension and setting it to ignore individual elements.
-
Strange to think it was written almost a year before the Gameband flopped, no refunds. Does anyone recall exactly when "Atari" pulled their name off of that?
-
So your nondisclosure agreement states that you can't reveal trade secrets, but you can tease us proles about what you know, but can't say? Maybe it's time for you to sue Atari SA for nonpayment, so they can stick a semi-sensitive letter in their legal answer, and we can see what's really going on here. 😜 My guess it's for a PONG-style paddle. Because everyone is dying to get back into the classics. Family fun and all that. Plain Old Rotating Technology

Nintendo Switch overtakes 1990s SNES console in sales
Flojomojo replied to 0078265317's topic in Nintendo Switch
I don't think so. It is fair use to put someone else's logo on other stuff without permission, so long as you're clear about what it is. Colorware has this disclaimer on their page. -
That was my name for a while on rec.games.video.classic, a USENET group that died before you were born. Here is a sample. There are some familiar names in this thread.

Nintendo Switch overtakes 1990s SNES console in sales

Heh. Here's Colorware, which strikes me as laughably expensive and thereby easier to resist. https://www.colorware.com/p-958-nintendo-switch-pro-controller-2.aspx?c=f9z-83ddm*fa1-83eym*fa3-83bfo*fa5-83cge* -
"This is a very difficult update to write..."

So what WAS the one missing element? A brain? (the ever-elusive project manager willing to be the face of the accursed ATARI VCS?) A heart? (some reason for going on this snipe hunt in the first place?) Some courage? (if nothing else, to say "we're not finished and we may never be") Just to get back home? (back to the Alamogordo landfill with the whole lot of them!)

Nope. My books, comics, games and computers were solely the domain of me and my friends. They'd watch TV and go to movies with me, and played the occasional board game, but never had the slightest interest in video games, "family fun" or not. My friends' parents, who were way more indulgent with buying electronic amusements for their kids, were the same way. If it's nice outside, go out and play. If it's rainy or cold, to the basement with you and jack into cyberspace. Something with a goal or point to it, like an adventure game or something with educational value, would be sneered at less than a twitch game like Joust, which they saw as electronic ping pong. Harmless in small amounts, but not for them. My own kid and her friends enjoy the occasional Just Dance or Mario Kart but aren't very into video games at all. They're way more into real life activities like sports, crafts, and socializing.

Heheh. I thought they refunded your money and kicked you out? Or am I thinking of someone else who got a letter saying "a $2 contribution isn't enough to be able to criticize us non stop."

Comments on this IGG backer page are talking about the Better Business Bureau now. IndieGoGo has an A+ rating with BBB, but 1 star average (out of 5) with users. They're doing exactly what they said they would do. The backers' money is with "Atari" now. This is an old story and I wish people would have read about IndieGoGo before sending them any nonrefundable money.

I don't think we've seen this letter from Feargal before. You can find this (document #10) and other related documents on the CourtListener page for the Feargal vs. Atari lawsuit, which has since been settled. Here's a local copy "for the record" or something. Not that we need to build a case about why someone might not want to "invest" in this. Feargal letter.pdf It's saved as an image rather than machine-readable text, so here are some screenshots for easier reading. Basically "Atari" used it to show that Feargal didn't meet the terms of his contract (deliver the AtariBox and its accessories under a tight deadline) and didn't communicate to the mothership about their progress (or lack thereof) before asking for more time. They also say that they advanced him $50K and that he wasn't entitled to any more compensation until the Box came out. "Atari" says that Feargal damaged their reputation and stock price by not pooping out this thing fast enough. It's really something seeing these mighty titans duke it out. It stands to reason there is similar correspondence between Rob Wyatt and "Atari." We will never see it, unless Rob feels like blabbing to the press more than he already has, which would bring "Atari" lawyers back into the mix. I wouldn't think anyone would want to be dragged through another lawsuit like this. Since Feargal's departure, and since Rob left too, we have seen them attempt to "craft a positive message on why we are delaying." As for "reignite the community with a clear plan of information release between announcing the delay and Spring launch," well, maybe not so much. That would have been Spring 2018, almost two years ago. Feargal makes a convenient scapegoat, but I wonder if anyone honestly thinks he was the one who put their stock in the toilet? They seem to do about the same with or without him. They got a wee boost after this letter was sent, probably for unrelated reasons. Rob Wyatt wasn't announced til June 27 2018, and left in October 2019.

Nintendo Switch overtakes 1990s SNES console in sales
Flojomojo replied to 0078265317's topic in Nintendo Switch
Hm, there's Colorware, which is super expensive, and there's this, if you want to make them look like 1999 iMacs and Nintendo 64 controllers. https://www.amazon.com/MASCARRY-Replacement-Controller-Transparent-Faceplate/dp/B07FFSSPHQ/ -
The price seems fair. The wide screen choice is goofy, but will be able to do modern things as a result (retro games can always run in a 4:3 window). I would like to know specs. Lots of cartridge choices, I get the collectible appeal.

Maybe a "port saver" would help? https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=3850 The new Witcher 3.6 patch is great. I turned up Sharpness to Low, turned off Anti Aliasing, and it looks like a whole new game. Plus cloud saves. Isn't it weird they only come in black? Doesn't seem very Nintendo at all. I guess Pro Gamers are SERIOUS. -
I was wrong, wayback is working fine. It doesn't change anything, but it's fun to see them alter the story. One nice thing about Indiegogo is how they have a tiny bit of accountability for what they say, unlike YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook comments that can be removed at any time. Then (as of Sept 15, 2018): https://web.archive.org/web/20180915145454/https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/atari-vcs-game-stream-connect-like-never-before#/ Now: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/atari-vcs-game-stream-connect-like-never-before#/

I see what you mean, from the Q&A section (not the FAQ), where they changed some text to past tense. Instead of "you are helping to build," it's "you helped to build," and so on. I think they softened some of the promises about streaming Twitch while gaming ("we are working on it") that were in the pitch video. Wayback archives might not be able to show the original versions, but if anyone took screenshots, they would be here on this thread. They've repeatedly said that everything is subject to change and is for illustration purposes only, so anyone putting money into this (for an idea, not a product, remember) won't be able to point and say "Gotcha!" at Atari. The backers are the ones who will have been gotcha'ed.

The best looking video game systems and computers
Flojomojo replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
All in one Macs were cute once. Hopelessly beige today, but times change. The PSP was super slick in 2005. Palm V was desirable once upon a time. Now that I'm old, I think back on the stuff I thought was cool when I see expensive, desirable tech. It won't be that way forever. I paid a lot for my precious here. -
All true of course, but it's not like these cultists want to play new games. They want to relive 1982.
-
^^^put that into a procedurally generated loop (think Nethack) with rewards for repeated grinds, and I think I could get into that. Problem is, "Atari" doesn't have any game designers, coders, or artists on hand. All they have is ASTEROIDS (c)1979 and they can't even spell that right consistently, or maintain a paid contract to keep the mobile version in the store. The good news is, nobody needs "Atari" to make a good game.
