  1. Yes, it's worth getting. Yes, you can mod it, and it's easy. https://modmyclassic.com You can use other controllers, too. Yes, it's worth it for modding, especially at this clearance price. The emulator itself is OK, and there are ways to replace it.
  2. through the teeth and over the gums look out stomach, here it comes
  3. In the comments of the Android news article, someone quotes a Play Store rule that says you can change an app from paid to free, but once it's free you can't make it a paid app again. There are several RCT games out there, but "Classic" is the only pay-up-front game Atari has currently listed in the Play Store. Probably just another brick in the great wall of Atari fsckups. They did something similar with the Atari Greatest Hits app, but in that case, they had a way for people who had paid for the first app to unlock the content in the second one for free.
  4. No doubt. And the longer this drags out, the more it would cost -- if "Atari" bothers to put in the resources, of course. Which they won't. Using Mike Kennedy Math, "The Historian" (last online here in December 2018) would have saved "Atari" $105,000 by serving up his very special brand of "light community engagement" for free in the 21 months since this thing was first announced. Luckily for "Atari," Andy Blakely is has assumed the Atari-flag-hugging position. Watch him pre-apologizing for them, as only he can.
  5. "Liked" not for the results, but for the effort to test it out. I was wondering about this too.
  6. Some of the products offered by Rain Factory, the PR consultant for "AtariBox," with prices: https://www.rainfactory.com/shop/ I wouldn't pay these prices either, especially after results and engagement dried up as fast as they did after the (s)campaign ended.

  8. even when typed in jest "the wife" is the new "should of" if I were god-moderator I'd ban people for saying that after the first offense
  9. "Hidden gem" is a kind of funny way to put it, though. Even though there are hundreds of games in the eShop, they're all ready to purchase and download, so long as you know where to look. Maybe "buried treasure?" I don't know. I would call them "games I enjoyed that you might not know about." I don't know if that gets the clicks, though.
  10. That is cool. I like GOG's no-nonsense distribution style. I've got a Battle Chest in my basement ... never really got into this on desktop, but there's no denying its influence on this style of game. Edit: It's funny to me how their marketing emails always arrive in my inbox about 20 minutes after I hear about the updates someplace else. When I read "period-appropriate 20FPS SVGA graphics" I was like ... erm, I don't think I want that. Thank goodness right next door is "or play an updated version..."
  11. Maybe not so much busy as deliberately quiet? F-Mac claims that they stole his ideas, and are floundering since his departure. Perhaps "Atari" is trying to avoid helping his case. Of course, the simpler explanation is do-nothing incompetence. Taco 🌮 🌮 🌮
  12. Powerwall is the inverter, or is that Tesla's home battery? I looked into SolarCity a few years back, but the savings vs all the restrictions didn't seem worthwhile. I figured I'd wait until the home battery scene picked up or the cost went down.
  13. It's good that this is in your hands and not mine, because I know what I would do if it belonged to me.
  14. I like Nacho Libre. which reminds me of the story, maybe an urban legend, about how the US government mandated adding labels to Superman capes that say Maybe it wasn't just the cape, maybe kids just emulated the character. I know of at least one Superman-related death (New York Times, February 12, 1979) Maybe old brands should come with a warning, too. What do you think they should say? Or maybe the would-be backers need a warning, too
  15. One whole share? That's like $0.35! I think IGG is legally fine, but ethically? A shitshow. Remember, they get paid no matter what. There's a reason they have such a bad reputation. Unless you want to mount a lawsuit, this is probably the best thing you can do for now -- just keep on engaging them respectfully, try to keep them honest, remind them of their responsibilities. If they care about the obvious risks to their reputation, maybe they'll do the right thing.
  16. Oh, it's totally for little kids. It just so happens to be fun for adults, too. It feels very "classic gaming" to me, except with the Crossy Road type of progression built in -- too bad there were no Atari 2600 games that did this! I really like the way your wings pop off when you mess up, but you can always pick up replacement parts along the way. Except they don't match, so you have a big Y-Wing pod on the side of your TIE Fighter. Tee hee hee! If you bother to make a LEGO signin, you can be my friend. The name is "Ms. FrillyWolf" (which was the default they gave me, heh)
  17. June 30 2018 marks the end of the "campaign," after which pledges are locked in, and refunds are denied. Everything after that is "in demand," like preorders, but you can't cancel after 2 weeks. I believe "in demand" is intended to work primarily as a storefront for goods that are ready to ship. Six months after the campaign ends, Indiegogo releases the 5% reserve funds they were holding to cover chargebacks. From New Years 2019 onwards, any refunds for this project would have to come out of "Atari Game Box LLC." Other counters were reset when they changed the rewards and removed the "limited woody" thing. There's a powerful enough of a stink wafting from the whole enterprise that I wouldn't trust any numbers, but the dollar figures are where IGG makes its money so they're likely to be the most accurate. I peeked at a few other campaigns, and the profile "more" amount is consistently higher than the front page "total funds raised." In the places I spot-checked, the difference wasn't as great as with "Atari Box," more like a couple of percentage points. If buyer's remorse is more strongly felt on this project than others, I think this is where the difference will show up. If jbpin's comment is deleted, I know what I'm going to assume.
  18. As we all know, "Atari" has collected 3 million dollars for their silly PR stunt of a "console." BUT WAIT! NEW SH!T HAS COME TO LIGHT 4 million? Could it be? Let's click on "more" and see. GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY Has "Atari" experienced -$968,025 of "shrinkage"???? That's 24% of the total! Indiegogo only takes 5% plus credit card fees. Are the "backers" the biggest cost this thing has? I mean, besides lawsuits with Feargal Mac and garage rentals. Say it aint so, Mike!
  19. Star Wars LEGO Microfighters Fly your little ship down an endless tunnel, don't hit the sides or your wings will pop off. Lots of vehicles and characters to collect. Seems completely free, with optional registration for an extra thing or two including leaderboards. Uses modern resolutions well. Good music, very cute. https://www.lego.com/en-us/themes/star-wars/games/microfighters-f0c5e34a88004b28b81add9457599553
  20. Oh, good point. Nobody was disappointed in E.T. For Atari! 🤪
  21. How this works: Indiegogo sends out a form letter to the complaining backers and takes no action. They know it's a hassle and expense for anyone to sue them over this. They're probably sending automated periodic reminders to the campaign folks, but unless a very large number of complaints come in, I doubt they'd even tell "Atari." This kind of thing happens all the time with crowdfunding, and it's worst on Indiegogo. It's too late for most backers to dispute the charges on their credit card, and too early to complain about nondelivery. It's why everyone in the world (minus 11,503 brand-hungry pigeons) said to stay away. Not to give money up front for poorly envisioned, unnecessary computer hardware. To avoid the known flop-makers who had their hands in the similar Gameband project. Protecting their consumer rights, not giving them away on flimsy promises of good things to come. It's fun to make jokes about this because it's all just so ridiculous. Had "Atari" tried this in the 1980s, would we have gone along with it? Sent in our checks and money orders in advance, with the promise of a big, untraceable package sometime in the future?
  22. I think it's sweet how the person(s) deleting questions and comments stopped doing that after their bad behavior was caught and called out. Then again, it's always easier to stop doing stupid things than to create anything, even something as simple as a progress report.
  23. It seems like diminishing returns at this point, as many of the "Atari" games I love are actually from Atari Games (Midway -> Warner), but someone's gotta release this for the Switch, and you're the most qualified to do it: I, ROBOT
