Coleco strong-arming homebrew publishers and fan sites
Flojomojo replied to TPR's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
I agree that they won't rescind that original strike, but I've also noticed they've learned to STFU and stop digging themselves deeper into their self-created hole of bad public relations. It was truly entertaining for a while there! -
I seriously doubt "Atari" will attempt game streaming. Where are people even getting that idea? Sony has that niche sewn up with Playstation Now. Seems to me that anyone with the bandwidth to run such a thing can just buy the games instead. That's certainly the case with me. Nvidia streaming is totally playable, but that stuff is cheaper as more practical to buy and own. Micro transactions don't have to be pay to play, they can be to unlock items and goodies like in a free to play MMO. Again, I don't see what "Atari" can bring to the table that hasn't already been done to death on PC, console, and mobile. This would not be a new idea. I'm open to learning what they have in mind, but they have shown literally nothing so far, and if they need to crowdfund it, they run the risk of having a stronger company beat them to market if their idea is any good.

I used a case like this for a while. My kid was confused when she first saw it, she thought it was a new phone with a screen on both sides. Nostalgia doesn't work on young people. The buttons stick up in a nice tactile way. It looks stupid on larger phones though -- mine was many years ago on a 4 or 4S.

Ready...Player One - anyone read it?
Flojomojo replied to IMBerzerk's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
It's THE video game book, and will be a Steven Spielberg movie next year. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1677720/ When the forum or my connection is slow (usually from my phone), I get double posts too. When it seems like it's slow, crashed, or didn't go through ... it's best to just let it be. It's usually fine, and sending it again results in a double post. -

What happened to the Sega Saturn mod chips?

I believe you, but the Assembler forum links above don't work anymore. -
Ebay buyer "accidentally" bid on something.
Flojomojo replied to Flojomojo's topic in Auction Central
Do they actually enforce it? The loser who "accidentally" bid on my auction seems to have gotten a free pass. -
Stoppy, where have you been? You seem to be about 2 weeks behind with this topic. What is /v/, some 4chan dickery? I'm honestly torn between curiosity about what the trolls think of "Atari" and wanting to stay far far away from that cesspool. I guess the best memes will find their way here, right? Yes, of course the Stevie Wonder Atari ad is fake. He did make an advertisement in Pennsylvania against drunk driving many years ago, though. "Before I'll ride with a drunk, I'll drive myself."

I can imagine emergency-type situations where someone is called away and can't complete a transaction, that seems valid enough -- but it's just ebay, not life or death. I agree, cancel them and move on. -
Funny to think that this has been discussed at such length, and so long ago.

What would be the ideal/perfect CV Controller?
Flojomojo replied to retroillucid's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
That looks really vomitous, but I would have been all over it in the early 1980s. Was it cheap? I have the Atari 2600 version and it's "fine," suction cups and all. Is the yellow "Hot Stuff" controller made by the same people? I can only find this cruddy eBay photo of it because I'm not digging it out of the basement. -
Don't be a dummy! LEARN!

What's the extra G for? G-string, since it's for an "adult collector?"

I'm with the Activision, then Parker Brothers opinion. I'd be happy with an Atari/Activision Flashback if someone makes it. Imagic was OK but hasn't aged as well -- but if someone is throwing in Imagic games with the Activision catalog (as sometimes happens), I'll take it. I keep thinking about the SEGA ports of Buck Rogers Planet of Zoom and Star Trek Strategic Operations Simulator, but as much as I (still) like those two games, the rest of their stuff removes them from consideration in my mind. I disagree ... Activision got to the essence of VCS games, and looked nice too. No flickering, fresh ideas, unconstrained by having to look like someone else's arcade game. Not shallow, especially compared to the early Atari fare. They had patches (the first "achievements"), developer profiles, colorful packaging, and fun advertising. Were you not around for their heyday? Freeway came out a long time before Frogger on the 2600. It was as close as we got to the arcade game for a while. If you were late to the scene, that would make more sense to me.

Uh-ohhhh, I'm having another Flashback!
Flojomojo replied to Good_Times's topic in Dedicated Systems
Everything in your picture runs off of batteries except for the Atari Flashback console, which needs an AC adapter that is not visible in the photo. If you're answering questions from people, that would be my first one. Where's the power supply? Nope, no cartridge slot on the Atari things. The later Namco plug and play from Jakks Pacific had a "game key" that contained an extra ROM or two, but I don't think the blue ones you have on your trade table have that feature. There's a user here called "onmode-ky" that has a FAQ page with just about every plug and play ever made: http://pnp-info.angelfire.com -

Yes, that's definitely the IR version of their wireless Atari joysticks. They need batteries. I don't know if they're interchangeable with different versions of the Atari Flashback 3 thru 7 hardware, but I suspect they are, just like how infrared remotes work on different TVs from the same manufacturer. The ones with a Reset button are for Player One. Have fun! -

Flojomojo replied to Good_Times's topic in Dedicated Systems
The old Atari joysticks didn't have the Fuji logo on them, those are the modern AtGames replacements. If they do not have wires on them, they're infrared wireless controllers, that require line of sight view of the console (presumably the one in the center) to work. The Radical Space Invaders unit was a fun one. I liked the Namco arcade toy, too -- especially how you twist the stick to turn your car in Pole Position. The new Atari Flashback is coming really soon and looks way better than the ones that have come before. -
Old technology needed for my new TV
Flojomojo replied to Omega-TI's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I like how it says "Amplified video selector" right on the front. Does that just mean it takes power? I have a few things like this in the basement. What am I waiting for? -
I have no idea. I WANT them to flood the market so no one can get more than the suggested retail price for it -- or even see it go into clearance discount pricing. I really thought that's how it would happen with the NES Mini. The fact that it didn't makes me think history will repeat itself. Then I remind myself that Nintendo is sometimes unpredictable, and maybe they'll actually try to meet demand this time? All the shenanigans make me want the $80 Sega, the $80 Atari, and the $80 knockoff Atari more than this $80 thing.

PS4 is popular, but not so popular at AtariAge, why is that?
Flojomojo replied to zzip's topic in Sony PlayStation 4
A 2TB drive is insane? I got one years ago for $80, and now you can use external USB storage. That's the price of a new game plus a season pass. Consoles are just closed-off computers nowadays. -

UID = unpaid item dispute? Ebay seems to have an automatic trigger for that now, it seems to go off after 3 days.
