  1. Because it looked like an awesome set. I don't care about Atari 8-bit computers, I think cartridges are a stupid waste of space, and even I was excited about this lot. I didn't bid and I wouldn't have won if I had, but congrats to the birdie3! Good things can come out of divorce.
  2. They're typically just MP3 downloads, no DRM. Some of these are also available in FLAC format, but that's a larger file. Personally I find that less useful than Audible because there's no easy way to save your place on mobile. I was considering an Overcast "subscription" (it's just a few bucks) to unlock that kind of functionality in my podcast player for external files.
  3. In my case, it would probably be an improvement to my mental and physical health for it to go away. Computer games aren't a great use of time or money anyway! Life would go on. I bought these to enjoy today, not necessarily to keep for fifty years. I've purged a lot of old crap from my life. It's a good feeling. It would be a drag to lose Steam, GOG, PSN, App Store, Humble Bundle, or other outlets, but I doubt they'd all vanish at once. Except in the case of an electromagnetic pulse or something ...in which case we would all have other things to worry about.
  4. Did Coleco Industries actually design or manufacture it, or just import it? When I was a kid I thought Atari made all the Namco games we know and love. Maybe this is similar.
  5. That's an excellent point -- fortunately the peanut gallery here was (appropriately, IMHO) skeptical from the start
  6. I think the differences between the first two Genesis consoles are overblown, but the AtGames Firecore stuff to date is completely different -- when it's a melodic game (Sonic or Phantasy Star 2, for example) , the difference is stark and quite annoying. When it's farty old Genesis music, the difference isn't so bad.
  7. Anyone paying full price on Steam is doing it wrong. http://www.usgamer.net/articles/28-06-2017-steam-summer-sale-2017-best-deals-cheapest-games-biggest-bargains-when-does-the-steam-sale-end
  8. No screengrab yet, but it's in theaters on Friday. I doubt they secured any rights ...though I suppose we could scour IMDB.
  9. It doesn't have to be a modern gaming system.
  10. They never got the chance to hurt anyone, because of all the times they shot themselves in the feet
  11. I take your point ... I guess my issue, like yours, is why stop at 21? Curation is great, but choice is better.
  12. I like rougelikes and thanks to you, I'll get this bundle. This forum is costing me money!
  13. The Steven Kent book is good reading. Depending on the performance, I suppose it could be good listening, but it seems like it would be a tad dry. I've had it in my Audible list for years but haven't tried it yet for what that's worth. :-/
  14. Do you have an ENTER or RETURN key on your keyboard? Loading on PS1 was from hell.

    GPD XD

There are a few 8-bit emulators in the store, but they aren't as plug and play as many of the others. They support 5200 games.
  16. Sony has made it possible to play a wide range of their Playstation One originals on PSP, PS3, PSTV, and PSVita. They're cheap and they go on sale all the time. Many of your favorite games are already in the store for no more than a few bucks apiece.
  17. It's amazing to listen to the obvious bullshittery and wishful thinking. I remember different versions of this pitch from so many places back then. If only this passion and energy were channeled into something productive or real, that would be something to see. Maybe not anything anyone would want to buy, but still ...
  18. Got another link? That one has gone down the memory hole. Edit: here ya go. Web version (needs Flash) Direct link
  19. I'm almost shocked they didn't include some big-name arcade games like Space Invaders, which was pretty nice on the SNES.
  20. They did two different releases on PS2, a whole bunch of overlapping collections from different developers on GBA, one disc-only collection on PSP, and a damned confusing set of releases on mobile. Capcom has done that too, releasing arcade collections then dropping support then releasing very similar things. It's enough to make people talk about "ownership" vs. "virtual leases" and other codswallop.
  21. I've heard of people like that, though not many Steam users making that complaint. Do they have outdoor toilets, too? Internet access is like running water around me. I suppose I like comfort, not really one for "roughing it," which is why I like video games in the first place.
  22. Ah, I found the video and now I see what you mean. I thought those "filler" games were not going to be on the HDMI Flashback unit. I'm old and cranky and would really prefer GameGear and Sega Master System games, as announced elsewhere. I suppose that's one downside of having so many variations. Another thing that doesn't help is having years of not-so-hot releases that make people post stuff like this.
