  1. How about Intellivision II, with broken compatibility and worse controls? From back when sequels were often worse than the originals. I don't think game sequels were nearly as big in the early days as they were on the NES and later. In the arcade, we had Asteroids Deluxe, and semi-sequels like Super Cobra, Frenzy, and Donkey Kong Jr which were new twists on old games. Stargate, I guess. Apart from the stuff mentioned above, I can't think of many Atari/Intellivision era sequels besides Pitfall II, by which time Intellivision was mostly dead.
  2. I think January is perfectly possible. January 2021, of course. 😉 They're in a tight spot. Nobody really knows what's happening next with COVID-19. Someone from the US CDC suggested that similar quarantine procedures could be necessary in North America if things got worse. I don't begrudge them for not giving a new ship date that they know is wrong, or not communicating when they have nothing new to share. They've already squeezed 3 small Medium updates out of one semi-substantial milestone, and they haven't moved their IGG thing into "Production" yet. Another reason to delay: "Atari's" fiscal year is ending in just over a month. They just won a big judgment against a t-shirt manufacturer, $4.75M worth of trademark/copyright penalties and $98K in legal fee recovery. The t-shirt company doesn't have that money and won't pay, but it tells a good story on the "Atari" balance sheet. Better yet for Fred, it's some black ink for their portfolio if someone wants to acquire them. "Atari" has a standing arrangement with a legal bounty hunter to go after more trophies, many of which are already in play. They might as well wait right up until March 29th, after all potential ships have come in, before showing any business weaknesses with regards to "Atari VCS." "Atari" stock, like much of the global market, is in a slump right now. "When it comes to Atari VCS, no news is good news" is the least of their troubles. The Toy Association CEO says We've seen bigger electronics manufacturers announce they expect slow shipments or constrained supplies. So long as "Atari" does right by all the people who ponied up money in advance, I think it would be perfectly reasonable to put a pin in this stupid escapade. They could quit before they get further underwater, blame it on COVID-19 (better than blaming Feargal or Wyatt or Arzt), and be grateful if it doesn't take down their whole trademark-custodian company. 🇫🇷
  3. That's where I am as well. I understand how a small hardware manufacturer has challenges, but this seems like a dealbreaker, especially with the workarounds people have needed.
  4. Nice alliteration, it would make for a fine 1980s game. Oh look, here's one now.
  5. HOTSHOT RACING looks yummy. Low-poly style with high frame rate, coming to everything incl Switch really soon. https://hardcoregamer.com/2020/02/26/hotshot-racing-set-to-bring-arcade-racing-back-to-consoles-pc/368394/

@GoldLeader Send me $200 so I can buy you a Switch Lite, will ya?

Man if I had $200, I'd go to Chugwater!

(Weird little joke my mom used to make)

  6. These are on sale. The old games are $1.49 each, and Doom 3 is $2.99. https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/doom-1993-switch/ https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/doom-2-classic-switch/ https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/doom-3-switch/
  7. I'll actually be in the area, but there's no way I'm going to a pop-up "gamers lifestyle event." Dcave? More like Dbag. There can't be much crossover appeal between this e-sports stuff and the "mostly broken PC running Atari VCS emulator" scene, can there?
  8. Some of you guys aren't answering his question. The question is not "am I bad person for downloading ROMs, please initiate yet another recital of your standard piracy rant." The question is The app in question is here, and the answer is simply "no." It's a decent emulator, and if you have touch controls, it's somewhat playable. Apps from the Microsoft Store are less likely to carry crudware than random sites on the internet, making them "safe" to use insofar as they shouldn't blow up your computer. But that's not an endorsement from the rights holders. It's still "illegal" even if they haven't been caught, and no one cares. See also: this developer, who has a whole bunch of single-app Atari VCS games you can grab for free to use on Android. Here's one that is unquestionably cribbed from "Atari" without permission. "Atari" just won a default judgment against t-shirt company RageOn for over $4M worth of penalties and $98K in court costs, so they're probably very motivated to seek out and destroy any future opportunities to cash in like this.
  9. Re-enable the startup chime on new Macs:

    sudo nvram StartupMute=%00

    1. save2600

      save2600

Now why would they want to mute that?

    2. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

I'm glad it's off, I don't want to wake my kid up when I turn it on early in the morning. IIRC it used to just use the volume level when last shut down.

  10. That feeling when ... something seems familiar and you finally remember where you saw the original The new thing: The original: It happened twice today! Now: and then:
  11. I saw the broken news feed that @sramirez2008 describes on chrome for windows.
  12. I just realized this thing from September was done rendering and was waiting for me. The crawl creator guy has a long queue, and he doesn't even have a virus working against him. So it's a little dated ... and yet, still perfectly relevant to today's situation. TheLastStraw.mp4
  13. What do you think is happening here? A. "Atari" silencing potential critics who didn't put any money down B. Dry run in preparation for refunds to everyone C. General incompetence D. Boredom while they wait for factories to spin up again E. All of the above
  14. I agree, the Dell outlet is good stuff. I visited today to see what prices were like since the coupon I posted has been discontinued. I think I'll wait until whatever upgrade I get is a great giant leap from what I have now, which works for me. The Quest is on GOG, and half price. Good old school dungeon crawler. The Deluxe version includes the expansions. https://www.gog.com/game/the_quest_deluxe_edition
  15. While you wait, why not play some good retro-style games, from a developer with heart, brains and talent? https://www.electrictoy.co All excellent.
  16. Murder simulator, nightmare of depravity, etc.
  17. It's the same guy. He's practically begging for someone to send him a cease and desist for copyright infringement. No one is giving him the attention he desperately wants. Sad trombone.
  18. I found a $400 coupon on a nice Alienware gaming desktop. It's a 9th gen i5 with a GTX 1660, nothing amazing, but way nicer than my PC, which is like 6 years old. But there's nothing wrong with it and I don't feel the need for more speed. But this would be a nice big jump, and $400 off. I think "wait until I need this" will win out for once. Anyway, here's the deal in case YOU want it. Probably expires soon. https://kinjadeals.theinventory.com/saturdays-best-deals-alienware-gaming-pcs-tile-key-fi-1841851215?ks=nativestream
  19. @Shaggy the Atarian Except the movie came out, right?
