  1. Hmm, I don't think VCD was "better" then VHS. I had VCD player adapter for my PS1 and the video quality was not the best. The MPEG compression was at fault of course. I don't even think that it was better then Laser Disc, I remember the Laser Disc had really nice freeze frame, and no noticeable compression artifacts. Fast motion was pretty bad on VCD.

Another fault of the VCD was that they came on 2 disks.

I still have a big VCD collection, mostly Jackie Chan movies.

I did not have CDi back in the days.

  2. They shouln't have designed and released the 32X Period. They should focus more on Saturn instead, instead dividing their resources on both systems.

From my personal experience, I went with Sony Playstation. They have games that appealed to me, like Tekken and Ridge Racer. I saw the Arcade Ridge Racer in the movie theater once and loved it, when I saw that the game was released on PS1, I was hooked.

But, the deciding reason I got the PS1, is the VCD adapter that let you play movies on Playstation.

  3. I remember looking at the Dreamcast Kiosks with Tokyo Xtreme Racer. The game looked sharp and smooth compared to other games like GT1 and later GT2 on PS1.

The one thing that I didn't like about the game were the light reflections on the road coming from the car. It looked like white triangles floating in front of the car. My first impression was that it is a high resolution N64.

I remember my friends got it on 9/9/99 and talking about it at work, but I didn't get it. I was waiting for PS2 before making any decision. I was looking at the Tech Demos, and PS2 were more impressive, specially the Ridge Racer girl and the Final Fantasy dance scene. I was thinking Wow, this is real time?

  4. The 8MB ram problem should only show up when using plain 8MB ram expansion in A1200. When ram is part of the 030 accelerator then it should be fine. I have 030 with 64mb ram and the PCMCIA port works fine.

The best and sure way to transfer the files from PC to Amiga is to compress them using LHA or ZIP, then copy that file to the CF card and decompress it on Amiga. This way all file attributes will be preserved.

  5. I got Sega Rally Japan loaded on my NTSC PS2 using the Free MCBoot. I have a physical copy of the game. Sometimes the games can be loaded from DVD to HD, but if it doesn't work then I find the ISO and load it like that.

The PAL games will not work on NTSC systems, the screen will roll and the picture is in Black and White.

    I'm using the FAT PS2.

  6. I no longer have a monitor to test it on so I cannot verify operation although it appears to do all the normal things when powered on.

Yes, you can test it. Amiga 2000 has B/W composite video output in the back. Take a picture of the WB screen, and other stuff, you'll get more offers when people see that it actually works.

  7. My dad back in the day made a switch box to allow switchable joystick/mouse in port 0, and a joystick in port 1, with a simple ribbon cable with 2 female DB9's on the end that would plug in under the machine and run underneath the ST to the back to the box with the 3 male DB9 ports and switch. It was a very practical hack.

I was doing and selling those few years ago, but I was looking for a cleaner solution.

  8. I'm in the middle of designing a joystick extender for the Atari ST wedge computers.

I'm thinking to attach it to the side of the case and use screws to keep it secured. Then run the ribbon cables from the box to the bottom of the computer.

The question is: Are you willing to open the computer and drill holes for the screws?

I have tried the double stick tape and it's not secured very well, especially when mouse/joystick cables are tight.

    Thanks.

  9. Hey, I just noticed this thread!

I have 2 Nuon's. Toshiba SD-2300U and Samsung N501 both with remotes. The Samsung is a newer addition that I got a year or 2 ago. The Toshiba much longer.

I have only one Logitech controller and 5 games, Space Invaders XL, Tempest 3000, Merlin Racing, Freefall, and Ballistic.

I got the controller way back on Ebay for like $20 brand new, and I can not believe they got so expensive.

Do you guys know if someone is working on Nuon adapter that you could use, let say SNES controller with the Nuon? I know the connectors are hard to come by, but if we could have just the wires, then we could solder the corresponding plug to the test points.

I have a broken SNES I could use the controller input jack.

I found this document explaining the joystick protocol: http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/1383659488_NUON-Architecture-26-OEM.pdf

  10. Like ParanoidLittleMan wrote, I think USB floppy drives may not work with FloImg software to copy your disk (if the disk format is not standard).

To format the disk in 720kb in Windows 7 and up you need to use the CMD: format a: /f:720 or format a: /t:80 /n:9

I'm not sure which Windows version removed the ability to format 720kb disks from GUI, may work from command line.
