Hi,
I had my 2 Port A5200 for a 10 years now, and ever since then, the Joystick port one was defective, would not go up/down. My friend added a pull-up resistor to the trackball so we could play Centipede, but when I purchased, few month ago, 3 controllers from Ebay, finally I found out that it was a console problem, not the trackball.
Can some one point me in the right direction and tell me which chip could be bad and can I get a replacement somewhere?

to combine v and h sync signals use a non polarity capacitor, I dont know the value, capacitor blocks DC V and passes AC/frequency. There got to be a formula for that. I have noticed that if you combine both syncs you loose signal, with capacitor you can see something.

Man...! It take a long time, brings back some memories...
My 7 year old son is not patient, he says its not working, and I told him "just wait.."

I was able to get atari 1010 tape drive from my local Goodwill store for $15. I downloaded some CAS files, converted them to WAV. Instead recording to a tape, I used my MP3 player to play back the WAV file to the tape player via cassette adapter. I worked great. I can store the atari games on the MP3 player.

Thanx Rybags,
The screen looks like vertical scan lines with half the picture tilted by 45deg.
I was thinking sync, because with TBC, the picture was alright. BTW the VCR trick did not work also.
There are some editing Panasonic VCRs with TBC built in, those probably may work.

Hi,
1. Can some one explain it to me how the tape drive works in all 8bit Ataris?
2. Is it all analog or the signals are converted to digital,
3. I saw an "Audio Input" on SIO port, what is it for?
4. Can you build an interface to a generic tape player? Any schematics?
5. What is the command to load a program from tape drive, or save?
So many questions...
Thank you for any responses.

Hi,
This is my first post in AtariAge forums, so be gentle.
I have recently acquired an External TV tuner ENXTV-X2, it is a very good tuner, to display RF ch3 or ch4 on my LCD monitor. The unit also has S VIDEO, and Composite input and output.
After experimenting for few hours I came to conclusion that the Video out from Atari 130XE (RF and Composite), Atari 5200 (RF) , and Atari 520STM (RF and Composite) is junk. Looks like there is a sync problem with all units. Video degradation was not made by RF modulator.
I have tried my Amiga 500 with RF modulator, Amiga 600, and Amiga 1200, with this tuner and it worked fine. Also some anolog TV programs worked fine with this tuner on the LCD monitor.
I have made another experiment, I used my trusty TBC (Time base corrector replaces sync signal with a new one) and PRESTO! video looks beautiful on my LCD.
Now..., I don't really want to run Ataris using the TBC all the time, so does anyone know how I can fix this? I was thinking the "Sima Video CopyMaster Model SED-CM" might do the trick, but I'm not sure.
