Handheld Pinball or Breakout?
jeremysart replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The handheld breakout by MGA is better than the handheld pinball. But you have to hunt it down on eBay. There is a decent handheld pinball at BigLots though in the toy section. Also, you might be able to find one of those plug n' play joysticks like the jakks pacific ones that has arkanoid already on it. -
I cant/Even Read and or your/thread because its/ too long and or hurts my/eyes. But to answer the question, there is no answer. There are both good homebrew games, I own a few.. and there are good original games. There are bad homebrew games, and there are bad (and even TERRIBLE) original games. Its all the same. But you have to give homebrewers credit for their dedication and ability to publish the game, which is not cheap.

Intellivision - Help me stop hating it so much!
jeremysart replied to Lendorien's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Well for starters, try these games: Thunder Castle Tower of Doom (harder to find) Dreadnaught Factor Bump n' Jump Shark Shark Atlantis Dragonfire Tropical Trouble Utopia (if you have patience) Snafu Tron Deadly Disks These are some very fun games, and you can only find about 5 of them on other consoles (and dont look nearly as good or play as well) Also, come on, its as nice looking system, especially if you come across a System III. The controllers are easy to get past after playing a while, they are not that bad, and you can find the joystick adapters made by INTV on eBay. -
Video Game(s) That Make You Mellow!
jeremysart replied to fdurso224's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Antarctic Adventure, Arkanoid, Binary Land, Super Mario Bros 3, HyperZone (great music!) Doom. I know all of the tricks, traps, and enemies.. its the music that makes me like this game so much. Super Mario 64 (Think Dire Dire Docks music, will put you to sleep) Fable II -
I picked classic gaming, because for me, 90% of the time thats where its at. It was playing video games and making art that MADE my childhood, and who I am.. and I still love those same games every bit as much today as I did back then. No games will ever match titles like Warlords, Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, Pitfall, River Raid, Megamania, Asteroids, Atlantis, etc. Even up through the 90's, with games like Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Kart, Wolfenstein 3D, and DOOM. Some of the best games ever, and they never get old. But I do agree, times are changing, and simpler, challenging, fun, and creative games are making to the market now, thanks to digital downloads. Even some of the exclusive titles sold in store, like New Super Mario Bros, Little Big Planet, and the coming Donkey Kong Country Returns, and even a remake of GoldenEye 007 on the way.

My Custom Modded SNES Consoles!
jeremysart replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Two out of the three were definitely "smokers edition". Hopefully I can find more of them at low prices, because I had an awful lot of fun doing these. Krylon Real Stone, model paints (spray) and plenty of clear coat gloss. -
My Custom Modded SNES Consoles!
jeremysart replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The Black and Blue one is for sale at the Taylor Trade Center if you live in MI. I gave it to the booth owner, Game Graveyard, as a gift for donating 4 SNES consoles to me. The Zelda one is also for sale by owner I had a lot of fun making these, so I would definitely like to do more, and maybe even try a hand at other consoles in the future. Thanks for the comments! Oh yeah, I also have paint that identically matches the Original SNES color, so I can also "restore" your SNES and get rid of the regional lockout tabs while I'm at it. -
My Custom Modded SNES Consoles!
jeremysart replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thanks for checkin it out -
I would have posted these sooner, but my camera broke and I had to buy a new one. Feel free to post feedback, but keep in mind these are my first attempts, so be nice! Here is a video demonstrating the consoles: VIDEO (the video may not be "processed" yet, I just uploaded it.) Custom Legend of Zelda SNES This is the third one I did. As all of them, I filed out the lock out tabs so you can play your import games, as well as the addition of a cool blue LED(litteraly, cool blue, they are not superbright. I like these better) Black and Blue SNES My second attemp at a custom paint job, turned out a lot better. Red and Black SNES First attemp, didnt turn out too great, but not completely failed.

Wow, thats crazy. Are they are "name brand", or different variations. Ebay prices on lcd games in general are very bad.. most virtual pets range $35-75 when most of them originally cost about $10-15, the same goes with Tiger Electronics handhelds.. Do you sell them too? Haha, I just thought I would post this topic why I was thinking about the "collecting craze". Everyone was collecting these, Firbys, Beany Babies and Pokemon cards..

"When I was your age, I was raising Tamagotchi's, not babies" I was going through some old junk in the basement recently and found a keychain with a Tamagotchi, a Dinopet, and "Chikapet". It made me laugh, but I was young in the mid-late 90's, about 12 when the keychain pet craze hit. I was obsessed with these things for some reason, there was a point where I had about 8 of them on one keychain! Of course, I was facsinated with dot matrix/ LCD games in the 90's. Finding them brought me back, I remember my cousin was the first person I knew who had one, I thought it was so neat, so my mother bought me a knock off version at drug store, which turned out to be better because it had two games instead of one, and there was "simulated weather", if a sun appeared you had to give it a hat, if it was raining, an umbrella, or if it was snowing, a scarf. I recently found a new in the box one at the trade center for $5, so I picked it up and re-discovered the fun. Its no surprise that I like these things.. I love video games, I love hand helds, and I love games like Harvest Moon. I am already the geek guy that brings a Super Mario lunch box, thermos and glass to work everyday, I dont think I'll be any more geeky with a Tamagotchi on my keychain, haha. Did anyone else like these, or remember the whole fad? Share your story!

I used to be (secretly) obsessed with these back in the late 90's when they came out. I think it has something to do with surprise and variation, the same reason I collect classic gaming consoles. Any way, I recently found one of my old ones, and rediscovered the fun. Now I am looking for more. Have any in an old box or junk drawer? Crammed away in a closet or in a desk? Let me know what you have, pictures are always good. I would really like to find the one I had, it looked like a Tamagotchi, but it was flat on the bottom, it had more options in the game, like it would rain and you had to give it an umbrella, I think it was called chickapet, there was also a dinosaur one called dinopet. Of course a lot of the same ones were released under several variations with different names. I am not looking for modern ones like connection or the ones that come in a three pack that are "10 in 1". I have problems.
-
Its not necessarily destroying the console. I recently modded some snes's and it was fun and easy, and I didnt damage them in any way. I did a custom LOZ SNES and it turned out great! I have seen other people do some pretty sweet mods too. Of course, there is nothing I could think of to possibly "mod" any think from the Atari/ Coleco era. They look great just the way they are. I have always wanted to put the guts of a new computer into a vintage PC and put a slot loading DVD/R into the 5 1/4 drive though.

Very interesting find while modding SNES consoles
jeremysart replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
So what your saying is the SNESjr is easy to do an AV mod on. How noticable are the differences? Is it worth the effort? Just curious, I have had a lot of fun modding the three SNES consoles I have done so far, if its worth the work I may pick up a jr. I always heard that the INTV System III has better video and sound hardware that the first two, but I personally cant tell the difference. -
Unauthorized copies of ColecoVision homebrew games
jeremysart replied to opcode's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
The point is, after knowing that this guy is selling homebrew ROM on the card without the permission of their rightful owners, I don't think many if any at all from here would buy it from him. On the other hand, you really don't know how to get Roms and put them on an SD card? Its pretty easy, you just search the Roms you are looking for, can usually find a zip pack with all the ROM images in it. Get a USB flasher and an SD chip with a Micro SD adapter, put the Micro SD into the USB flasher, put the USB flasher into the PC's USB port, open up My Computer drag the Roms (that you rightfully own) into the flash drive.. Its both inexpensive and easy enough for a kid to do... no one needs to pay someone to do it.. and if you want to pay someone to do it because you don't feel like doing it yourself.. would you really pay Dave to do it, after this? -
Unauthorized copies of ColecoVision homebrew games
jeremysart replied to opcode's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
This whole thread is pretty scary. Please guys, don't let this incident split up the scene and leave it shattered. There are too many hard feeling going around right now, and everyone needs to get their heads together. One thing you should sincerely think of however, I SINCERELY doubt as many people have bought Dave's SD package/ CD as many of you think. In all honesty, here are two things to consider: #1 Colecovision Roms are readily available.. freely available, ALL OVER the internet. You can get about every non-homebrew ROM via emuparadise, romnation, or any of the hundred others, as well as entire zips and rars containing every ROM image.. WHY would anyone pay some chump $20 for a fucking zip file, excuse my language. #2 Who is the audience that your homebrew attracts, and is targeted to? Collectors. Hobbyists. Die hard CV fans. Do you for one seconds think that any of the above would rather pay someone for dirty ROM images and cheating you out of your hard work and money as opposed to having the much more priceless and valuable cartridge? I really doubt it. Keep in mind, Atari Age has a great community, whether people are disagreeing at the moment, and arguing due to stress, most of us are on the same page. Everyone knows what David is doing is wrong, 98% of the community will follow that. Most of us here respect the developers here that much. I would like to see that games that I am making box art for hit the shelves.. and not be stopped because of one ignorant person.. -
Cant wait. Working on the art for this one will be great!

System Shock II. If you can get past the first person view, it has a lot of role playing elements. Also the later Phantasy Star games.

Unauthorized copies of ColecoVision homebrew games
jeremysart replied to opcode's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
What piece of crap! I cant believe he thinks there is nothing wrong with what he is doing. I looked at the list of games included on his "SD package", and indeed homebrew games are one there, including ones that are still in the works/ yet to be released. Not only is he hurting the community, but he is also illegally selling ROM images. I'm sure the Blue Sky Ranger, creators of Intellivision Lives! would not be to happy either that on the same page, he is also selling an Intellivision "SD package" for the CC, which also includes illegal copies of ROM images still being sold by BSR, as well as homebrew Roms! Intellivision Lives! has a facebook, and there is a contact on the official website, perhaps someone should inform them with a link too.. -
It is an interesting article, one that like death, does not get brought up too often. Where will games be in 50+ years, how many people will still think of the Atari 2600 or the NES? How long will their memory exist into the future, before our generation slowly dissapears, and the memory is but some obscure data cataloged in the electronic human collective. Yikes, thats deep. Well, so long as some or most of my electronic devices survive, the memory is safe with me. I have never been one to feel the gaming industry is hurt by emulation.. I have emulators for every system and plenty of games.. but for games I really enjoy, even obscure and rare titles, I do seek them out, and buy them for the actual console they are meant to be played on. (Not that its any more logical to buy a USED game that does not in any way support an obsolete game industry as opposed to using an emulator which also does not support the industry) I just hope my child is interested in games enough to preserve what I pass down and not sell it all off

Very interesting find while modding SNES consoles
jeremysart replied to jeremysart's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thats an interesting point. I can confirm the SNES jr. does work with the game genie, I dont understand why they would do that. Anyway, the modding has been a success for the most part. Nice custom paint job on both units, removed the regional lockout tabs, and put in new leds. Replacing the power on LED was easier than I thought, uts just very tricky doing it without having to unsolder the 14 controller pins. This does involve snipping a peice of plastic on the inside, I'll post pictures in another thread when I have taken pictures of the modded consoles. -
Radio Shack RF Modulator + 2600 + LCD TV = What?
jeremysart replied to GregadetH's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thats strange. I have a 780i Element HD LCD set. It has a coaxial input on the side, I just plug the male double ended cable from the 2600 to a radio shack switchbox, and plug the coaxial out into the tvs coaxial in. Just gotta make sure the tv and 2600 are set to the same channel and the switchbox is switched to "game" or "computer".
