Yes, it will work with the power paks!
But spending 400 for flash carts for the three systems, not too appealing, though I may by them one at a time, starting with SNES.
Dan.. and I still need to get a CC3. Ugg, flash carts cost too much!
If you have seen these, I am sure you have seen there are also handheld versions for all three systems now too, which I guess would make the flash carts more worth it to purchase in the end.

FC-16 Go has probably the best controllers I have seen come with a clone. Some even prefer them to the original SNES pads. I wish they would have just used the controllers D-pad and buttons for the system itself.
After the d pad on the console "broke in" in wasnt too bad, but I can second that, the wireless controllers on the FC16 Go are pretty smooth.
Its nice because I have a sit down job, and on sundays and tuesdays my boss isnt there so I can bring this in and play SNES games right at my desk while working.
Or when I am working on a peice of art and get a gaming urge which I so often do, I can flick it on and play right at my work area, no having to go in the other room and hook up an SNES.

Interesting topic.
I grew up on the VCS 2600, it was the first console we owned. Beyond the 2600, I am not a huge Atari fan really. I mean I have owned a 7800 and a 400 computer since I was 10, but they werent anything that I spent too much time on.
For me it was 2600>INTV>CV>NES>SNES growing up.
I found these forums because I was searching for information on the aracde Mario Bros., and at the top of google I seen "Colecovision Mario Bros" and I had to check it out.
I decided to stay because these forums arent filled with kids, so theres not a lot of trolling, flmaing, or obsurd language. Conversations are usually pretty enjoyable, everyone here seems more like a real community, or even a family compared to any other forums I have been on.
All in all, I would say the people are the #1 reason I come here, followed by discussing classic games, homebrew, and up coming games.
Oh, and OldSchoolRetroGamer, WHERE did you get your new avatar? I love it! I kind of want to make a painting like that now! I have been wanting create some women inspire painting, but I never thought of sexy Tron girls on light cycles

Atari2600.com is selling one. It has been in their store for over a year now.
https://www.atari2600.com/item--Intellivision-PROMOTIONAL-Video-Game-System--INTVID0028.html

Heh, well Congo Bongo and Fathom are pretty easy to find for being "holy grail" items, and great games like Thunder Castle that arent as common seem much harder find.
-
Yes, if you scroll down in the /classic gaming general > there is a topic posted by Stoneage Gamer, he also sells them, amongs other cool retro items in his store.
The downlow in this is: Its a great space saving clone, nice design, and allows you to use all of your original controllers. The downside is, just like every other clone out there, there are some minor compatibility issues (there are 1 or two games that dont work on it) and the controllers that come stock with the system pretty much suck (no shoulder buttons).. but of course this does not matter, because any real gamer will certainly be using their original controllers.
-
I'm totally convinced that retro gaming items rarely see the light of day at local thift stores. I used to score things all the time (10+ years ago), but haven't found so much as a Combat at a local thrift in the last 4 years. Of course several of my local thrifts are in Toledo, OH and I know that there are several competitors around. I believe at least a few on this board

I still see lots of retro items, just not very much Atari. Mostly NES, Genesis, N64, PSX, DC, PC, etc.. I don't buy much these days, but I do go hunting every now & then. No since in buying if I don't have the system to play them with. But not all the thrifts are dry.
I dont trust good will too much, and even Value World gives emplyees "discounts" (although I did find Warlords for the 2600 last week).
Salvation Army is the best in my experience, as their workers are not allowed to take dibs on things, they have to wait until their shift is over to make a purchase.

I got mine today.
I have to say, I love the screen on this thing! The resolution is lower than that of a DS or PSP, but the color, brightness and contrast seem to be much better!
The d-pad is ok to say the least, but pressing up is sometimes not as responsive as I would like, and it is very hard to play Doom (although I am probably the only one who cares). Other than that, fun little.. bulky system, and definitely a conversation peice.
I just like that I can take it anywhere.. Dennys, the bowling alley, and have the two wireless controllers so I can still have someone vs me at Super Mario Kart or Killer Instinct.
Over all, I give it an 8/10
Next on the list, the Retron 3.

$500-$1000
Any more these days, thats the price you could get away with on eBay...
Even if not particularly valuable in sense of money, its not everyday you come across a super charger with starpath frogger, one of the best ports of the game I might add.
-
Wow, well if they arent asking too much for it, you should just get it! The supercharger is not too common, and Starpath Frogger is really nice!
I would love to be able to play it on the real deal.

I personally like the DS release of FF IV.
And PS II is WAY too hard!!!!

I am always suspicious of these console clones; I have a Yobo FC [Famiclone], and other than the fact that it doesn't take up a lot of space, I really don't like it. It has a death grip on cartridges, so I always feel like I'm damaging the console when I try to remove one.
That was the same problem I had with my Yobo FC Twin. I always felt like I was harming the cart or the consoles when removing an NES game.
As for Hyperkin, no idea, never owned anything by them yet.
But when I get a new car (trans crapped out on me) I will be getting the Retron 3, I like that I can use original controllers, its a space saver, and me and my buddy usually get down on all 3 of those systems, so not having to connect and disconnect and search for cords will be nice.
I would also like to own the FC Mobile 2 and the FC16 Go just for novelty.. they seem like great conversation pieces!

Please post pics of your progress I may be interested!
I will update you for sure once I get one completed. I bet I'll get more responses once people see I actually have something to show.
I am very interested in customizing NES, SNES and N64 consoles because they are well liked, pretty, and readily available, but I would also like to try some Sega consoles as well

-
Although preferred, it is not necessary that they must include any cords, games or controllers, but controllers and the power supply are a plus.
I am NOT looking to pay a lot of money, I am not looking for a collection of games, I just want the control decks because I am beginning to customize and mod consoles.
I have been wanting to do this for a while now, as an artist (http://www.jeremysart.com) who loves classic games and systems, and I finally got some good paints, an air brushing kit, dremel tool (for making windows on top of the NES) and a "Nintendo screwdriver".
If you have extra consoles that you are willing to sell at a reasonable cost, or know of any good sources (its hard to find them on eBay without games coming with them and thus $40 +)
There is another option! If you can provide me with one or more complete console, or two or more bare control decks (working order of coarse) I will do a mod for you with shipping as the only cost (you would have to ship to me, the one complete console, or two control decks, plus the NES/SNES you want customized).
I already have tons of idea brewing! I am working on three SNES control decks right now, I will post up pictures as soon as one is completed.

I have been following this thread, reading peoples split opinions on this.
I just want to say, coming from someone who is not a "hardcore" 7800 player, but owns one, I find it pretty exciting. Since it exists using just expanded ram and Atari technology, it is more Authentic than "just some add-on", and for the price, I think it would be something I would purchase to get more out of my 7800 than just better ports of Nintendo arcade titles, titlematch wrestling, and 2600 games..
I am largely interested, but would really like to see less arcade remakes or ports from other consoles that I already own.
It would be neat to see some side scrolling games similar to Xargon: Beyond Reality, or Duke Nukem II, Jazz Jackrabbit etc. and with this expansion module, THOSE kind of games will be possible.
And not just nice side scrolling platformers and vertical shooters, but also adventure games similar to LOZ, or even "point and click" games like Kings Quest.
What about strategy games, something similar to the original Warcraft?
And if someone develops a ray-casting engine (hopelessly wanting Doom 7800), the possibilities are endless (Imagine a game like AD&D on the INTV but with real time smooth scaling raycasting).
I am game, as long as plenty of creativity goes into game development and more than 5 games come out for it.

I am glad at the positive responses.
Heh, I was too thinking to send GroovyBee an INTV, but I scrolled down a little more and seen Rev already has that covered.
The architecture of the INTV is different, but I suppose that gives developers a challenge, which I imagine is half the fun of programming.
The system can definitely be pushed a lot further than it was ever commercially explored, perhaps we could propose a contest.
What kinds of prizes would be appropriate? I couldn't contribute too much, but I could make some sweet INTV inspired artwork, or at least do the box art

(edit: sp)

What I would like to see done, or do myself, is find a non working INTV or INTV controler, gut it, and replace the innards with a modern USB game pad that has 10 or more buttons.
You would be able to play most of the games, so long as at least the top and bottom side buttons, 1, 2, 5, and Enter are mapped.
How hard of a project do you think this would be?
-
It would be nice to see some new games appear on the INTV.
I know its harder to program for this console, but it has hardly been pushed to its limits
Playing games like Thunder Castle and Tower of Doom are proof of what the INTV is capable of, and surely much more.
What ever happened with Lunar MP and Castle? They looked so excellent and fun, but it has been 7 years now
Even the Spirit Demo by Arnauld Chevallier was promising of what INTV could be pushed to.
And then there was INTY OS, but that has also been a few years.
Is there currently any homebrew happening for the system, or have all the big programmers for the Inty gotten to busy?
-
They wouldn't be banned by the government, but it would've probably been rejected from magazines. We in America are supposedly Puritanical about sex, but we also produce 99% of the world's porn, so it's more like we just handle it differently. It's up to the magazine (and then the vendor).
I think the real word is *used* to be puritanical about sex. Haha, have you watched TV lately? Looked at billboard? Opened a magazine? Watched a commercial? Even Disney? Sex is everywhere. This country is not prudish about it, it is APE-ish about it. We are like chimpanzees, everything has to be full of violence, explosion, and naked chicks.. I was born in the wrong century.
-
And all we get for the cover is a single alien from Space Armada.
I felt the same way at first, but if you think about it, they are trying not to just target us INTV fans, but all generations, and a "space invader" (or its clone in this case) is a good icon to represent classic games. At least the running man is on the cover too.
-
Hmm, this is a hard one, because there aren't many that I don't think are pretty to look at (with the action max as an exception)
As for prettiest, I have to say the INTV System III imo. Its got that look that is a cross between classic and modern. Big and boxy, but black, glossy, with the silver panels.. its a nice sleek looking machine to keep on display.
I think the Colecovision is a close runner up for the same reasons, I just think the INTV looks a little more slick.
And in order descending
Atari VCS 2600 (any model except the Jr.) For on the the first real gaming consoles ever, it looks really nice, and you cant help but to feel nostalgic when you look at it.
NES (toaster model) This one seems to be love/hate, but personally I like its design, which was attempt to match the late 80's American "hi-fi" look of entertainment center appliances. I absolutely hate having to push the carts down like a VHS tape, but it also gives off the same nostalgic vibe that the VCS makes me feel.
Other than that, the 5200/7800 are pretty slick, and the model 1 Genesis with Sega CD and the Master System adapter with the hue card slot plugged in top looks pretty cool too, also has that cluttered hi-fi look like its going to transform into something.
I don't necessarily thing the GBA SP is the nicest looking, but I certainly do find it to be one of the most comfortable handhelds I have ever owned. The NES special edition one is pretty cool looking too.
-
Agg, they NEED to give a release date, I am getting impatient.. and Virtual Play Games "official" website is very un-promising. You cant click on anything, there is no info, and a dead picture link..
As for the games, if there are "over 60" as they say, I am sure some of our favorites will be in there
Long as they got Thunder Castle, Tower of Doom, and either of the AD&D games, or Minotaur as they renamed it, I'm good to go!
As for classics, I am sure we'll see Thin Ice, Astrosmash, Snafu, Utopia, Shark Shark and hopefully some of the Imagic games.

Back in the day it was a very bad system, many electronic flaws went unreported and back then we did not have ways to find out all these errors and situations with systems and YES just like X-BOX 360 a piece of GARBAGE lol
Whoa, lets not be calling the Colecovision a peice of garbage please.
To answer some questions, no, Colecovisions were not built to be the most durable. Where it is much easier to find a working VCS 2600 in the wild, you will have a harder time finding a working Colecovision. A lot of them have the similar problem to yours, when you load a game you get a scrambled image. My childhood Coleco does this, and when the game does load, your character is forced to move left only.. yet I have tested the controllers to work just fine on my ADAM, and another working Coleco console I found in the wild.
But these problems did not go un-noticed.. Coleco, like Microsoft, did make an effort to refurbish consoles, and infact, its not all too rare to come across a Colecovision in a box that has "REFURBISHED UNIT" printed across it. Most of these problems are pretty easy to fix, there are guides online, and people in this forum who provide this service.
Now back on topic
This is an idea I would like to get people interested in: A new console, with a chip set just poweful enough to emulate Coleco & ADAM, Intellivision & ECS, and VCS 2600. It would have two DB9 ports, a usb slot for a pc keyboard, and a mock-up cartridge slot sheild (like the door to the coleco cart slot) but with an SD chip slot in it. It could come with two wireless controllers, a square joystick with two fire buttons, and a detachable keypad with side buttons for playing Coleco and INTV games.
This machine would be possible (I was emulating these same systems on my computer back probably 10 years ago, so I am sure an inexpensive processor is readily available to do the job.) and inexpensive for the most part (not having to produce an INTV on a chip).
It could even just allow emulation of CV and INTV, but have an actual cart slot for 2600, as "AOAC" exists already.. unless certain copywrites would prohibit the production of such a product.

Haha, funny thing is I actually had a woodgrain 13 inch knob style tv, but I had to get rid of it because the cable jack broke off from the inside and the sound went too.
But I was lucky enough to get an "HD" flat tube TV. So I can hook pretty much anything up to it and it looks good, unless it was supposed to be wide screen.
Either way, its all about prefference. Personally on my 780i HD, I think the VCS, Inv and CV look pretty good. Its the "inbetween" systems that look bad, like PS1, N64, and Saturn.. they look really blurry and glitchy. Off topic, running an N64 emulator on my new HD laptop, and the games look way better than any tv I have ever played on because it somehow tightens up the resolution on the textures and makes the polygons nice and crisp. This is running PJ64 on an HD Compaq widescreen laptop with full screen streched mode too.

Looks pretty cool actually. The programmer should try to get this in community games for XBOX arcade or Wii ware.
