  1. Because it is.

    No REAL games.

    OH LOOK A VIRTUAL DOG.

    OH LOOK, A MINIGAME COLLECTION.

OH LOOK, A STORE FILLED WITH MORE MINIGAMES.

    Compared to PSP, actual games.

I am no Sony Fanboy, I dislike them. They killed SEGA. But Nintendo is a second to me, but it is the truth.

See, now that is not true at all. Your missing the entire point. The point was and still is, the massive shovel-ware and kiddie gimmicks could have been avoided IF companies would stop having that exact mind-frame about Nintendo.

The DS actually is doing better in sales than the PSP, but that is beside the point, it could definitely have better games if developers were a little more creative, especially for the more casual croud like myself, who do not delve in MMORPG'S, COD, Halo and GTA games.

To say the least, first party games aside, there are some other pretty interesting titles on the DS, such as the Ace Attorney games, Lost in Blue, Shin Megami, The World Ends With You, Age of Empire, Nanostray, Trauma Center, Brain Age etc etc.

What I am trying to say is not being biased either, because I am not a "fan boy" of any particular company or trademark, as I own pretty much every console in existence and have good games on all of them.

Yeah. I'm not fond of the concept, but it's been the rule since the end of the SNES era. It's the way things are.

At this point, I'm pretty sure Nintendo could release the most powerful system imaginable, sell it for $49.99, have 100% marketshare, and third parties would still fill it with shovelware because "It's Nintendo."

Yes, that is exactly what I am talking about.. that mindframe that third parties have, taking the easy way out instead of putting any sort of effort or creativity into their game development.

  2. I got it for 11$ for the ps3, its a fun game, but maybe its only ps3, but the only gripe I have about it is the framerate. It slows down at times. I've heard that the 360 has some slowdown on this game, is that true?

I hate that one city thats grey. too much grey, and it looks like it got hit by a plauge...

Otherwise, I've enjoyed playing this game.

My wife and I are both playing this game right now, and neither of us have experienced slow downs, however, the whole grey thing.. well that is my biggest gripe about the game. The detail in this game is phenomenal, its a shame they didnt use a little more color, everything seems very washed out. Other than that, its a beautiful game thats sure to not be like anything else you have played..

Speaking of which, ARE there ANY Ninja games like this???

  3. Meh, almost every kid owns one. They might not want to play say, Sonic Rush. But they like monster trucks and have no definition for a crappy game aside from no violence, so they might get Monster Jam. Also, if you're complaining about how the DS gets watered down ports, you should check out CoD Modern Warfare for DS. I heard it's very good for a handheld game.

Just ranting in general of the clear lack in devolpment for many DS games, including popular franchises. Most of the good DS games are first party titles (Mario Kart DS is a good example), then there are a hand full of pretty neat puzzlers and brain teasers. Im not a COD kind of guy myself, but I own an R4 for the DS and have played plenty of titles for the system.

But also owning the PSP, thought I love Nintendo, its obvious the PSP gets more love when it comes to ports. We'll see if that changes with the 3DS; looks like it has much better hardware this time around.

  4. I might be three years late on this one, but my God!

I just bought the game for $6, and was completely blown away. It would be nice if more developers put this amount of detail into their games!

The world that you get to explore as Altair is incredibly detailed. I have yet to see another 360 game with this level of carefull attention to details.

All of the cities are beautifully rendered with gorgeous textures, and just the right amount of bloom lighting. The sound is also very important in the game. When you are up on high points like towers, you hear nothing but birds, the wind, or the occasional dog barking off in the distance. But on the ground, you hear the bustling city, beggars crying for help, people talking about politics or religion, people arguing, guards harassing people. But they don't over do it, you hear what you need to, and a lot of eaves dropping is involved in this game.

I was also impressed by how natural the cities look.. for a game that was developed with being able to hop and climb all over, you would never guess by looking at it, that it was designed around being able to easily get around. Nothing feels fake in this game, and everything from pigeon shit on ledges, to wheel barrels of hay, little intricate art details on building sides to the stone textures on the ground.. no detail is spared!

I would have to give this game a 9.5 out of 10.

    (edit: grammar correction)

  5. I have a strong feeling that Sega is about to redeem themselves with their two upcoming titles.

They have (in other words) openly admitted that Unleashed and Legend of the Rings (or w/e the medieval themed one is called) were trash.

I don't recall hearing or seeing ANY hype generated whatsoever for the latter title, and when I was browsing games, and seen two sonic titles, both around $20 that I have never heard of, I remember shaking my head and thinking, "Sega.. why?"

Their big mistake is trying too hard to make Sonic "Cool" or "Tough", and releasing games too close together and with lack of proper advertising/ hype, followed by making some of their releases cross-platform for every system.. including the long dead PS2.

But I think they are going to make things right with Sonic Colors. It looks as though they are drawing inspiration from the Mario Galaxy games, and bringing a little bit of color and pizazz back into the franchise. The title for one is Wii exclusive, and it had gotten a deal of hype.

Sonic 4 also looks pretty good, although I am heavily disappointed that it is not a boxed release, and that you have to buy each episode rather that the full game.. hopefully once all the episodes are released they sell a boxed collectors edition or something..

    ONE MORE THING!

    CHAO GARDEN PLEASE K THANKS?

  6. All too often I find myself thinking, "This game could have been a lot better (for the DS), but most companies regard the DS as a kids toy, and would rather not put the time and money into development."

Very often you see a cult hit such as The Sim's, which gets ported cross-platform. This franchise is a great example of what I am talking about; Take the Sim's 2 games for the PSP.. they are great games in and of themselves, while looking good and staying true to the original concept. Now look at Sim's 2 for the DS.. its a complete joke! It looks horribly unpolished and jagged, while having absolutely nothing to do with the "Sims" universe.. there is no simulation.. it is an ill-conceived story that you break down at a hotel and have to collect uranium for the hotel furnace to keep them in business. The game is kiddie, and has numerous glitches that sometimes cause the game to freeze.

EA is one of the worst offenders, but a lot of big companies push aside any creative or polished development, and pretty much port the "cell phone" version over to the DS.

Its a shame, because the DS actually has a lot of untapped potential.

  7. Retro-bit is trustable, but you cant beat 1st party hardware. Find a real Nintendo Pak. They are cheap and easy to find. If you cant manage to find one, I know a guy selling a bunch for pretty cheap.

The pak makes games like Turok 2 and Ocarina look fantastic.

  8. I'd just like a new overhead isometric Zelda in the style of LTTP/Links Awakening/4-Swords. 3D should work great on that style of game.

And please no more "DS-Style" Zeldas such as Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks. And please don't let Capcom work on it either (i.e. the ho-hum Minish Cap & Ages/Seasons). And I don't like the 3rd person "Zelda 64" type games either. Just friggin give me regular Nintendo created overhead Zelda please with a proper overworld and hidden dungeons. If something like that came out on the 3DS I'd shat a brick. :D

I agree. Links Awakening was my favorite Zelda game. I could not stomach Phantom Hourglass, not the animation, and the stylus only controls reakky ruined it for me. But 3D would make a top down Zelda look excellent!

  9. I imagine that the figure they couldn't make back enough money to justify programming the Super FX emulation. The Super FX requires very specific timing and that might prove difficult to emulate.

I couldn't be that terribly hard.. every emulator I have seems to run all my SuperFX games pretty well. Hell.. Ironically, I can play Star Fox and Star Fox II on my Wii under the homebrew channel.

But maybe we'll get lucky, and some future Star Fox game will see the official release of Star Fox II as a bonus.

  10. As always I'd like a free-flight space combat simulator--preferably one with trading. Kind of an elite/privateer/freelancer game. I think that advanced space ship controls are one of the few things a second screen would actually be useful for, and I believe the 3d effect could really add to the genre.

Yeah! Thats an excellent idea actually. No having to memories confusing button combos, because you would visually see the control pannel and be able to "press" buttons on it. Good idea

    Perhaps Star Raiders 3DS?

  11. I know this may sound weird to some, but I would love to see LucasArts release a revamped version of the original Dark Forces on the 3DS. And if it sells well, a revamped Dark Force II would make a good 3DS title as well.

Looking at the YouTube footage of the game, Dark Forces' graphics haven't aged very well, but the game is still fun to play even today. :)

I dont see why that would be weird at all, Dark Forces is a great game! Just needs revamped with some hi-def textures and polygon models to replace the sprites. Hell, those older Star Wars games whip the crap out of any of the newer ones..

I am just excited to see if any old school FPS games period see a re-release in 3D.

  12. They should have come up with a better name, slightly different design, and slightly further release date.. because most Americans are regarding this as just another DS revision.

But its not just another DS, its got all new hardware, its the next gen of handheld gaming, and unlike previous Nintendo consoles, is getting a lot of 3rd party support, from big companies like Capcom, Namco and Activision.

$300 is a little much, but I will have one within the first year or when the first price drop happens. I am much excided to see classic VC games in 3D.. come on, Megaman 2 3D? F-Zero 3D?

Hopefully id software hops on the bandwagon and releases an "id Classics" or Doom Classics, or how about Wolf 3D 3D, haha.

What do you hope to see on the 3DS? There are plenty of capable games that would be excellent in 3D!

  13. I have been able to come across pretty much every gaming/ computing accessory hardware or software I have ever wanted.. yet the ADAM disk drive continues to elude me. I think most in part due to its price when it does surface, and half of them dont work.

I really want one though, and I would like a disk that has a nice compilation of ADAM "super" games. But that will probably not happen.

Thanks for the info  I really should back up Dragons Lair, because I know I will play that a bit. And if I ever do happen to come across a disk drive I would love to be able to check out all of the programs available for the ADAM.

    *EDIT*

HAHAHA! Is someone messing with me? My subtitle says "Great ADAM games/ software dirt heap!", I could have swore I typed "dirt cheap!".

  14. Well Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, as well as Crazy Taxi and House of the Dead 2 are available on the Game Cube / Wii.

But if you want an exclusive title that really takes the system to its limits, check out Shenmue. Make sure you also have a working VMU. Also Sega Bass Fishing is worth checking out if you can get ahold of the controller for it. Oh, and Sea Man.. its different.

  15. The Power Base Converter is basically just a pass-through device. The tech required to run SMS games is already in the Genesis/Mega Drive. The quality of the games on a PBC is identical to playing them on a real SMS (Minus a game or two that doesn't work). I'm not sure about the FM capability through it though.

When I said "worthless clones" I was more referring to the NOACS and SNOACs etc; I hear the SEGA PBC is very accurate.

Does anybody know, how does the Super 8 handle the FDS and Famicom audio? I hear it can run an FDS, but how well? Any known incompatibilities?

You can indeed use the Famicom Disk System on the Super8, I have done it. Also, for FDS and regular FC games, the sounds is accurate. I played all the way through the Japanese SMB3 with no problems.. and if the sound was off in even the slightest I definitely would have noticed.

  16. Well, first came the VCS or Atari 2600, which is what I grew up with, we had one when I was only 3 years old. Next came the Intellivision II.

I remeber the day very clearly that we got our ColecoVision. It was a warm sunny summer day, I was 6, my mother and I were garage sale-ing. I remember looking into a big box and seeing a bunch of 2600 games, so I got excited. When I dug in, my hands hit this gaming system that was neither an Atari, nor an Intellivision. I had to have it!

The whole box was only $35! Pretty good for the time. It came with the expansion module 1, several 2600 games, and about 8 Colecovision games, including Lady Bug, Mr. Do!, Cosmic Avenger, and Donkey Kong.

I grew up with the three best consoles ever made, and still have them in my colection :)

  17. I still want to try a Super 8. I wonder how the NES compatibility is on it.. It would certainly be better using that than a NES/SNES clone combo--At least you know the SNES stuff will work fine, all the time, haha.

The NES games work pretty well on the Super 8.

The cool thing about it, is that you can play NES, Famicom, SNES, and Super Famicom games with it.

There are some Famicom games however that do not emulate perfectly on it, and sometimes suffers from lines scrolling down the screen or discoloration.

  18. For me, nothing has changed since the first iteration of the DS was released years ago: No 2D Metroid title, no sale.

Such a stance works out great for me, because I don't have much time to play games anyhow.

Actually, according to what I have seen, they will be releasing NES and SNES classics in 3D. So not only will you probably get to play Metroid or Super Metroid, but they will have a 3D depth to them, I think thats pretty neat. I want some classic Megaman in 3D!

If it is $300 though.. no sale. I'll wait to get a used one.

  19. Or Super Mario FX? There is NO rom or screen shots from Super Mario FX out there, yet it was in development on the SNES for year before being abandon and changed into Super Mario 64.

Why would they release a incomplete game (Super Mario FX)? Why would they release information or screenshots of a product that they don't intend to release?

I could see Star Fox 2 seeing the light of day someday (Much like Ura Zelda did on the Wind Waker preorder disc). But with the Virtual Console's lack of Super FX support with the SuperNes emulator, I'm sure it won't be on the Wii.

Home to their long time fanbase if anything.

But who knows, maybe the "previously unseen development" that is on the 25th anniversary disk will include some screens of Super Mario FX. I am just very curious what it would have looked like.. how they could have pulled off a 3D Mario game on the SNES.

Star Fox II would be nice, just because the game was nearly completed. It was only dropped because they were so close to the release of the N64.

It could easily be released on disk with say.. an upcoming Star Fox shmup for the Wii? Or maybe in my dreams.. :ponder:
