Cameron was super nice to me. He said he loved my music on the The Terminator Sega-CD game. I needed to get his approval for in the game and to put it on my album on Capitol Records. Like you said... very "hands on" with everything he does. He even wanted me to write some tunes for The Terminator 2 movie! But sadly he left the T2 project.
Awesome! Yeah, my mate Grant was his PA during the whole Avatar shoot and they kept in touch. Says he is an awesome guy. Friend of mine also has parts in Avatar 2 and 3 and he says the same thing. He has lots of funny Arnie stories, apparently! Haha. Sounds like they had fun making the Terminator films.
So you reckon we'll get a Terminator game for Amico?

This is exactly why some claim him to be a bit of a tyrant on set. I have a few friends who worked closely with him on Avatar - he had so much at stake and knew EXACTLY what needed to be done, down to the make and model of microphone he wanted to be used for a particular shot. He's so incredibly knowledgeable about every single aspect of film making. Hell, I was a boom operator for a few years, then a sound recordist and I wasn't any more nitpicky than using the correct mic for inside/outside. Anyway, according to my mates if you just did your job without throwing in "helpful" suggestions that just waste time (which is money) he was awesome to work with.

That's an odd reply to a pretty normal question. It's not like he asked for their names, phone numbers and social security numbers...

Take 5 of 6 of those screenshots and add a message
"This is a Nintendo Switch game.
You won't see this on the Intellivision Amico."
I wonder whether that would be legal or not... but if Sega got away with "Genesis does what Nintendon't"... who knows.
I reckon if you worded it right you could definitely do that. "Did you know this game is available on Nintendo Switch?" It's a true statement. Nintendo may argue that by saying "This is a Nintendo Switch game" that you're saying it's a Nintendo game, which it isn't, and could possibly have a (weak) leg to stand on in court.
Not a silly idea though, tbh. Chuck it in mags like... I dunno... what do mothers read that their kids won't see? Haha...

They also allow AO (Adult Only) X-rated games on the system as well. Something Sony & Microsoft won't even do.
That’s a massive swing from the older Nintendo systems. Remember when even Mortal Kombat didn’t have blood? I guess they’re trying to shake the “kiddie console” stigma - but that really comes from their first party games anyway - they’re mostly pretty “cutesy” (and I wouldn’t change a thing).

You may find this article interesting from earlier this year. They know what they're doing.I like Nintendo games as well. Doesn't mean I don't have the right to bring up the fact that they allow more violent and sexual content on their machine than any other.
And yes... Nintendo keeps coming up over and over on this thread because everyone keeps telling us that we're doomed and stupid because Nintendo already does what we're trying to accomplish and we're idiots for trying to compete.
All I said is that there are more violent, abusive and offensive games on the Switch than any other platform. It's a fact... whether you want to acknowledge it or not. And you want to try to make me out to be the "bad guy" because I'm choosing to point it out? And trying to show people the harsh reality and differences between what we are doing and what they are?
And by the way... their Parental Controls are complicated and lacking as well (bringing up the Parental Controls argument is a little weak if you've never tried to set them). Again... that isn't "bashing"... it's pointing out another item that will differentiate us from them.I appreciate Nintendo and their games just as much as the next person. But don't try to silence my speech that not many people are willing to bring to light. And for the only reason to explain to folks what makes us different (because certain know-nothing YouTubers are so easily to call us morons because "Nintendo is already doing what we're doing". No they aren't. Not on the scale and extent of what we are.
Here are a just a few images from Switch games that you WON'T ever see on Amico...Enjoy...
p.s.:Here's a nice headline... and yet again... something that is very different about our systems: https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/nintendo-switch-violent-games-3308414
Again... people will bring up that there are Parental Controls on the Switch. If you're going to bring that up as an argument, first you must list all of the steps you need to take to enable all 4 of the areas of control. And tell everyone how long it took and whether or not an average "mom" would be willing to understand and operate.
I'll be waiting.Holy crap. Is it wrong I want to track down some of those games now? 😂

A video games Olympics...fun treasure hunt...flag chase through a scene in a movie. Whatever. Yeah, I agree. It would be very cool.

Reading the book gave all the great nostalgic challenges rather than what the movie offered. Picking up all the pieces to Zork, or playing Joust vs a D&D character, or even having to fight through a D&D style game. Whatever...it could go a million different ways to get to the end result. Just would be fun.
Yeah I think the movie probably struggled to get all the licenses needed. Funny how you can write about anything, mention any product but as soon as you try and put it on screen you get "GIMME MY MONEY!" haha.

I'll be sharing this today on social media, but wanted to post it here first...
When designing the new logo for Skiing... me and our Art Director Mike Dietz (Earthworm Jim, Disney's Aladdin, Cool Spot, The Neverhood, etc.) were standing around his computer looking at different drawings he and the artist from the developer had come up with based on some of our notes and ideas.
Mike's first game system was an Intellivision and he loves it dearly. He brought in his original Intellivision from childhood and it's been sitting on his desk for over a year. Many great childhood memories and one of the inspirations for him loving games and being in the industry.
It was at that point that I looked down and saw that one of the controllers had an overlay in it...It was this...

...and the new Intellivision Skiing logo was born!
Subtle, but so important to me that we keep as much DNA as possible.
Thought you would all enjoy that.
I absolutely love stuff like this! Which reminded me to ask a question I thought of the other day - are there any easter eggs in regards to to console design itself? Any specific meausrements or anything that you decided to throw in that people may not notice but you know are there and "in its DNA"? Obviously the controllers are a clear throwback but I was wondering about the console itself as it's quite different looking from the big 'ol '70s design!
But yeah, little things like this show how much love and care is going into Amico... HURRY UP, OCTOBER!

Basically it is his job to know the up & coming companies & trends in the gaming industry. That is kind of the equivalent to Troy Aikman saying your name when asked for the top up-&-coming quarterback prospect.
Sweet! Quick, @Tommy Tallarico - float the company now! I wanna buy shares 🤪

How to transfer user licenses to another user, due to relationship breakups. My Ex & I bought a bunch of Xbox games for use on my Xbox over the last 5 years. MS has no game use license transfer program in place, so he can't get those games he bought, even if I gave him the console, since they're all under my Microsoft account. If this were the old days, then I'd just pack up his cartridges and send them to him. Can't do that now.
It used to be that you glared at each other for an hour separating the record or movie collection and getting the Hell out of there. They even wrote songs about it.
Nowadays it's on digital files that usage rights can't be gifted or transferred. One party ends up keeps it all, while the other gets screwed with nothing. Forcing one of them to re-purchase the movies, music, games etc. they bought together.
I'm sure it's about agreements between 3rd party publishers & MS, but there should be a way without a company double dipping themselves on past purchases because relationships end. Warner Bros doesn't need to sell that piece of crap Rampage movie a second time.
Since Intellivision is the sole publisher of Amico games, can Intellivision look into a way to do game license transfers?
I have a solution:
Scream "No! Mine! Buy your own f%&*ing Amico!" before you even buy a single game together. Bonus is the relationship might end there and you'll never have to worry about it

I haven't dug into why the power button on my Mini acts so stupid, just no time or desire right now- seeing all the pictures and folks talking about the full-size is definitely whetting my appetite, though, for the bigger one.
It is REALLY good. I literally prefer it to the real thing.

The funny thing is, the C64 'Maxi' has made me want to mess around with my Mini more as the manual is chocka with info and I'm guessing a whole heap of things work on the Mini too. I might set it up as my 'gaming' C64 on the other telly and use the Maxi for development/making music etc. For most games you don't need the keyboard and for the games that just use one or two keys, you can assign those to the joystick - I honestly had no idea the Mini was that versatile. Of course the working keyboard does mean the Maxi is that much better. I'm in love with mine. I just proposed to it and we're going to get married in the spring.

I probably will use it mostly as a replacement for my Rift, hooked up to my PC (I only wanted it after they added the PC Link functionality), but I'll check out some Quest-only games too.
I haven't even hooked mine up yet and probably won't for a couple days, when I have some time off... I'll look you up when I do.
Awesome!
They're a great unit. I use mine for watching movies, exercising and the odd bit of gaming, haha. Sadly I have an ATI GFX card so the Rift Link cable doesn't work for me... yet. But hey, the reason I bought it was for the wireless experience anyway - Link hadn't even been thought about then (I'm a day one buyer).
If you want to see what the Quest can REALLY do, check out Red Matter. It's pretty darned stunning.

I guess I'll remain friendless in VR as I am in real life

Awesome, thanks! More to these devices than I thought, haha.

Also you might want to look up Spectrum Next if you want a Speccy replica. I know there are additional projects like those, so you may have some to choose from with varying degrees of functionality, price and availability (the latter a major thing as not all pieces of hardware get delivered as promised)
Yes, I believe so.
As for the Speccy Next, I have been watching that but is the thing ever going to come out? It looks awesome though. I'd also be keen for a remade original machine - same approach as The C64.

You can but it's a bit of a hassle. You need to make files etc I believe. I haven't looked into it fully as the multi file games I wanted to play are all available on either d81 or .crt.

On 12/20/2019 at 2:35 AM, TankedThomas said:Curious if you end up getting it today. Mighty Ape says they're in stock on Monday. And if anyone is curious: it's way too expensive to import one from NZ. Don't even consider it.
Been following this thing since it was first on Indiegogo but I've got to say I'm not super-impressed. The keyboard is the main selling point over the Mini, and though it looks good, it's a rubber dome keyboard with cheap and nasty-quality keycaps which will inevitably wear out quickly. It seems RGL/Kosch really cheaped out on this product. The Mechboard64, whilst costing more (primarily due to how it's made i.e. small batches at a time, by hand), is far better.
They should have made a cheap mechanical board with Gateron yellow switches instead. Wouldn't have cost much more (unless their profit margins are huge), and it would have been so much better. Then they could have sold separate keycap sets for keyboard nerds (like me) too.
Also not impressed with their handling of the GPL for Vice. If anyone's curious, this is a good run-down for the Mini, and I'm sure the same applies here: https://vice-emu.pokefinder.org/index.php/Hall_of_Shame#THEC64
I'm thinking I should just get myself an original C64. You can get a nice one for about the same price over here anyway. Been wanting one for a long time now but never got around to buying one.
Anyway, one of the better videos I've come across (most are crap and undetailed) is this one, if only for a look at the innards:
Case looks nice, but considering the low quality of the keycaps (forgot the type of plastic and such they used but it's not good stuff at all), I'm hesitant about the case's quality too.
Yeah, I actually got mine on Thursday! I'm loving it, though it's not 100% 1541 compatible as I've found gamnes with custom loaders which don't run. Easy fix though - I just hunted down EasyFlash conversions.
In reality you can't beat real hardware but for my situation, this is much more ideal. Emulation is great and the keyboard, whilst not mechanical, still feels nice and old school - it does make more hollow sounds than the original, for obvious reasons, but it actually doesn't feel too bad. Keycaps look great to me - time will tell. I do have a full set of og keycaps - I wonder if they'll fit?
Anyway, I'd rate it a solid 8/10. It looks the part, it's much easier to set up and use than a real C64 and overall it's a pretty authentic experience. Oh and the joystick is sooooo much better than the older model, but the buttons are annoying. It's so easy to hit one by mistake (those stupid triangle ones) and the front four all do the same thing. It'd be nice to be able to map them for different games etc. - but in saying that, perhaps reaching out to hit the space bar to activate boost in Turbo Out Run is part of the nostalgia
Oh, one other negative - the Thalamus games have gapped it, which really sucks. Easy enough to load from USB, but still.
Anyway, they fixed the issues people had with the C64 Mini, so it wouldn't surprise me if they released another version of this, perhaps a C64C with mechanical keyboard? Being the C64 whore I am, I'd buy it instantly! Now I'm hoping for a Speccy and Amiga reboot, haha.
EDIT: Thanks for the heads up on the Mech Board. I wonder if there will be some way to hook that up to TheC64? No doubt someone will work it out and that would be a worthwhile mod!
ANOTHER EDIT: So no, I won't be able to use my keycaps but you can make it run in 1541 compatibility mode by using CJM files. Bit of a pain but hey, if it works...

Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
