  1. Facebook/Insta are down!  How do I post about the important things I normally post about?
OK, for breakfast, I had an Egg McMuffin, but with bacon instead of Canadian Bacon.
    Just imagine the picture here...
    (Sorry...  Couldn't help it.)

  2. Remember, when replacing a water heater, always take the new one out of the box and check for dents/issues BEFORE you remove the old one...  Even if the box looks fine.

  3. I keep remembering while I am at work there is something retro I need to download.
And then get home and totally forget what it was...
Yes, I should take notes of what it is when I remember it at work, but...  "shut up!!  stop attacking me!!"  ;-)

      Postal 1?

Yeah,  If you think about it...Maybe jot it down on a little scrap of paper or Post-it,  and jam it into a shirt, pants, or jacket pocket.  Always worked for me!  Plus it's quite fun and liberating to remember you have a life outside of work.

  4. So, who's releasing the first Steamboat Willie video game in the new year?

As I understand it, the character from Steamboat Willie will be PD.  So as long as that is your character and not a more modern Mickey, you should be good.
Similar to Winnie the Pooh which is now PD.  They even made a (really bad I hear) Winnie the Pooh horror movie...

    3. bent_pin

      bent_pin

      Correct.

Plane Crazy is PD too and those versions of Mickey and Minnie too.

      A Disney game.

  5. Chrome just updated.  What's new page on restart??  Ohh!!!
    Shopping... Deals...
WTH???  Google, this is a browser, not the new version of the TEMU app...  OMG...

    1. bent_pin

      bent_pin

I set my homepage to duckduckgo for lack of a better option. After the update, mine went there. Are you using the default homepage?

    2. desiv

      desiv

It wasn't the homepage.  It was just the extra page that Chrome shows you after you restart after an update to tell you about the new features.
I wasn't bothered about that.  It's easy to close that. Only comes up the once to let you know about the new features.
I was just bugged that all those new "features" centered around shopping.

Hmm, missed it on my end

  6. Am I legally allowed to only slightly injure someone if I ask them an "either/or" question, and they reply with "Yes.."
Aarrgghh!!!  (This happens at work more than I'd like to admit...)

    1. bent_pin

      bent_pin

Yes, but you have to give them a choice between one of two punishments.

Reminds me,...I was watching Disenchantment last night on Netflix.  There's a scene where they are all talking about the toy action figures made of each character, and Merkimer says, "For me,  if you squeeze me, I fart",  Luci says, "You or the toy?"

Merkimer says, "Yes,  and thanks for the set up!"

@GoldLeader I love a bad joke, that one stinks.

  7. Can't believe I never noticed before that the Atari logo is right there on the forks of Artemis' Akira-styled motorcycle in Ready Player One.

  8. Watching a vid on the laptop with earbuds in one ear.  Notice my cat by the window with a weird look on his face... Take out my earbud and... hey, that's a weird sound...  Get up and take a look, and when I lean over enough to see across the street, "Oh Sh!t, bush on on fire by my neighbors house."
Got out there, called 911 and took a look, luckily it was just the bush.  As I was working on getting our hose to try to stretch that far, a cleaning guy (it's a vacation rental) came out and got a hose from that house and we put it out.  Eventually fire showed up and fully soaked it.
Appears it was wiring for an irrigation system that shorted.

    1. bent_pin

      bent_pin

Tell the neighbors that they owe your cat a tuna dinner.

    2. GoldLeader

And remember you can tuna dinner but ya can't tuna piano (?)

BTW Glad it all got put out with and nothing serious happened.  :)

  9. I'm not normally a vindictive person, but scammers need to be removed from society.  My wife just got a call and they got her all worked up and convinced her daughter had been hurt....  Just as she grabbed me, they started the "don't involve anyone else" bit and we both knew it was a scam then.  But they totally freaked her out first.  And I can see how someone who is panicked would not be thinking straight...  Evil evil people...

    1. Atarian7

      Atarian7

Yes.  Those assholes make me sick.  I'm glad you didn't get taken.

I had a foreign scammer trying to convince me he was working for the IRS. I set my old modem to call back their number once every minute. I had the speaker on and I could hear them getting madder and madder. I muted it and let it run. Took them a week of 60/24/7 calls to disconnect that number.

      Worse than muggers, they are.

It's very fortunate that you all saw through it before any real damage could be done.

    3. frankodragon

      frankodragon

Luckily there are those who call flood the scammers and those who really anger them and posted the outcomes on YouTube.  You can learn from the scam baiters what scammers do and what makes them tick.

  10. Came back to work from lunch and a coworker had just been taken to the hospital.  Wishing him the best.  I mean, we all get older, but still...

    1. carlsson

      carlsson

      Hopefully nothing serious.

I'm having a coworker at the hospital too, but she will likely deliver any minute now (unless it already has happened) and will be on her way back home.

  11. Got my cracked windshield replaced yesterday.  I asked the guy and I could drive it after an hour or two, for the glue (or whatever he called it to dry).  Nice, that it seals that quickly..
And then he said, make sure to leave the tape on the windshield for a day or two..
    er....
If the glue is dry, why does it need the tape?
If the tape is needed, doesn't that imply the glue isn't really holding...
    hmmm...

    1. Keatah

      Keatah

There are adhesives that need to cure more slowly and evenly. Which would imply it's not ready to drive just yet.

    2. GoldLeader

      Just drive the other one.

  12. Wow!  A belated Christmas present from my brother just showed up.  Replica 1 Apple 1 clone kit...  Wow...

      I have one too! A Replica 1 Plus. :)

  13. Looks like one of our software vendors just added a feature the might replace a licensed (i.e. costs a lot of money) feature from another one of our vendors.  Something they added just as "new features" so it won't cost us any more...  Obviously have to test and such, but..  Nice...

  14. Well that surprised me a bit.  Put in a minimum bid on a nice looking "For Parts" Atari 400.  Figured since the case looks pretty good, I wouldn't get it for just the minimum bid.  But I did.  Betting it's missing boards/chips inside. ?  At the least, it will look nice on my shelf.  But I'll have to see if there's a possibility for repair...

  15. Got tricked on e-bay.  Partially my fault for not looking close enough.  The description said "Maxell C30 Cassette Tapes Lot Of 6 Brand New Low Noise/High Output Cassettes

But when they showed up, it was 3 C30s and 3 C60s.
Went back to check the auction and the picture does show the 3 C60s and 3 C30s, so I missed that.
Oh well, better than nothing, but not what I was looking for.
A good reminder to check the description AND the picture closely.  ;-)

You were looking for cassettes?   Funny.  I think I just recycled a box of unused tapes.

    2. desiv

      desiv

Yeah, although I was looking for the shorter ones.  I have some longer cassettes I could chop down, but I saw those and thought it would be nice to have some official shorter tapes...

  16. I just printed a consumables report on my laser printer, and it told me that my toner was at 0%!
Apparently my printer and I disagree on the definition of 0...

How strange is it, than the universe gave him 81 years, and he gave the universe the ZX-81.  Is a coincidence ever a coincidence?  RIP kind sir.  Your contributions will never be forgotten.

That is a nice bit of knowledge there, @Stephen , strangely comforting.

I grew up with the C64's and stuff, was only recently exposed to the Speccy via emulation, and have read a bit on it's history/creation and stuff, is a huge piece of history, for sure.

Rest in Peace, Sir Clive.  I am still a big fan of your C5, you paved the way for the electric scooters of today.

  18. My favorite product label.  I was putting away the syrup and noticed the label for the first time.
    Aunt Jemima Butter Rich Syrup
    Contains No Butter.
Right on the front label, not hidden on the back or anything...

  19. Homemade banana bread...

    Simple and fast to make.

Even if you don't get it just right, it's still great...

I don't understand why this isn't a staple of living...

    That is all.  ;-)

Haven't made it in a while, but I guess I think the same about Pound Cake.

Simple, kinda needs something with it(like Bananas, lol!), but should still be a staple(I think it actually used to be).

hmmm, GoldLeader, my new call sign-RedLeader... conveniently we will form up at your location on Christmas... yes the originating co-ordinates to your sisters base will be kept secret as we wouldn't want any imperial entanglements, nor would we want to have the goods confiscated and put to use for Vaders purposes.

  20. Some people shouldn't be allowed to use screwdrivers and wire cutters!!!
Someone gave my wife a damaged outdoor extension cord.  The female receptacle, which wasn't the original, was cracked.  I ordered a replacement and got it today.  Opened the receptacle and .. OMG!!  The Hot wire was basically loose.  Not screwed in anymore and the case was basically holding it in place.  And, it had been stripped to over an INCH of bare wire exposed!!!  With little broken wires hanging loose!!  How is that possible!  <sigh>

Perhaps it's a return. Employees processing returns are instructed to "just give a 'new' one". They're taught not to think about or inspect anything.

  21. Got an Amazon delivery today.  Box is on it's side with two arrows point up.  So I am thinking he technically should have placed it sitting up!!!
Then I open it, and there is another box inside, with arrows pointing the other way.
So, the deliver guy was right after all, although I have no idea how he knew!!!!  ;-)

  22. Wow...  I had lent a Pi0w based RetroPi based system about two years ago...  He returned it last week.  I decided today to update it, since it has been awhile.  Started it at 9:30...  It's been over 3 and a half hours...  Still updating...  It's been a while since I updated Raspbian, so I don't remember how long it usually takes...  Probably should have just done a new install... ;-)

    1. desiv

      desiv

Still going!!!  Over 8 hours! Yes, now I am sure I "should" just install a new Raspbian and then Retropie and reinstall my games...
But I am seriously curious how long this will go and will it work when done... ;-)
So, For Retropie, either update frequently, or reinstall!!!  ;-)

  23. Aaarrggghh  Telcos!!!
Cutting over some 800 numbers from one Telco to another...  Did a Test.  Scheduled it.  Worked great.
Asked them to schedule the next two numbers and then the next two after that...
Just got a reply that they successfully moved all our lines...  During the day.  With no coordination...  Aarrrghh!
(Good news is that it is working, but  )

Be interested to hear from you how that goes in a month or so; I'm always on the lookout for good SIP trunking providers.

    4. desiv

      desiv

I'll let you know.  Not off to a great start. ;-)  Although at least the trunks seem to be working.  The trunks in question are hideously busy.  We get a huge BURST of traffic when the lines open in the mornings, so tomorrow will be a big test.  We have WAY more people needing to call than agents able to handle calls.  We are migrating for PRIs to SIP...

  24. One benefit of this whole last year or so is that I no longer feel the need to get / pay for haircuts!  I've really improved around the "cutting my own hair" arena.
I mean, my hair cutting skill hasn't improved at all..
But my acceptance of my own bad haircuts has really improved quite a bit!!!!
