Holiday Garage Sale - 7800, NES, Genesis + More!
eddhead replied to Conrad Hart's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade

Confession time: I've never owned an Atari Lynx. That being said, this might be the coolest thing I've ever seen!! eBay Auction -- Item Number: 140648843102 I'll bet the reserve is pretty high. Does anyone know anything about these jackets? I've never heard of or seen them before, but they kick ass... in a serious way! We need to have XM ones made for everyone involved with the project!!
-
Last I heard, my XM is shipping on the 15th, so I'm assuming that the next batch(es) will be shipping soon after.
-
I got my email and- because of this- soiled myself. Sept. 15th is my expected shipping date... Oh hell yeah!!!
-
#7- of course- being by far the most impressive. lol Joking aside, I just wanted to say that I totally agree with Joe and the rest of the ya. I realize that I'm not exactly a regular here at AA, but I am a hardcore classic/vintage gaming enthusiast who greatly appreciates everything Curt and others like him have done for the hobby. I hate to see you go Curt, but I do understand.

Atari 7800: Come for Ms. Pac-Man, but stay for Pac-Man Collection..... (doesn't quite have the ring to it that I thought it would, but you get the idea...)

Final Atari 7800 Expansion Module Box Revealed!
eddhead replied to Dr Manhattan's topic in Atari 7800
Ummm... what exactly do you plan on doing to your XM? LOL! Looking awesome, I just can't wait!!! -
If you take apart the controller, you'll see that there's a small, soft, doughnut-shaped pad at the base of the joystick. I usually just replace it with one of those styrofoam rings that come with stacks of blank cds (it's a perfect fit!). The difference will rock your world.

I've got 2 R5s: Custer's Revenge and Frankenstein's Monster, both CIB.

Hey, don't know if you ever figured it out Tupin, but if not all my money's on a faulty AC adapter. Every 7800 owner I've ever known (including myself) has had it happen to them at least once. A guy on eBay makes new 7800 AC adapters. They're reasonably priced (though they were quite a bit cheaper last time I checked) and I've had mine for over a year with no problems! eBay Auction -- Item Number: 370232403538 Good luck!!

I'd like to sign up for a cart. Thanks!!!

Dreamcast Collection for PS3\Xbox360
eddhead replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Console Discussion
lol, I spend more time playing my Dreamcast (was just playing Crazy Taxi today) than my 360, so not a big deal for me. But cool beans for anyone who's never had one/sold their old one to pay for a new system! -
Not only is Crystalis the best game ever, it also has the best jumping sound effect ever too!!!

That's okay though, while a platform/adventure would be cool, Super Mario Bros. would never feel right on the 7800. EVER!!

Alright, just an update (for anyone who cares). I tried the power button fix, and while I noticed that the contacts were pretty dirty, it didn't fix it. But the adapter I ordered came today and now my 7800 is running like a dream ! Thanks again to all who replied! Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date with Ms. Pac-Man .

This probably isn't related to your problem, but I have a Choplifter! cart that acts pretty weird. The game starts fine and runs fine for about a minute, then all of the sudden it "zooms out". All of the graphics get smaller and some of them get really distorted... not to mention the collision detection gets REALLY messed up. The hostages are, in reality, about an inch to the left (or maybe the right, it's been a while) of where there sprite is! You land to pick them up, but tragically squish them, even though you're nowhere near them. But then, just as suddenly as it "zoomed out", it goes back to normal... for a few seconds. It's really strange, I've never seen anything like it before. I'll have to take some screenshots sometime to show you guys!!

If you've got a Windows PC I'd recommend ProSystem. Version 1.3e is available here :- http://www.atariage....81#entry1766481 I'm not familiar with Mac or Linux but a search of the forum will probably provide some solutions for them. My Wii emulator is a port of ProSystem. The core is based on a little bit older version but it works pretty well. I only run Windows at home in virtuals and emulators on top of THOSE tend not to do so well. My only real option with Linux is MESS and I have yet to like using MESS for anything at all. I can't really complain about that Wii port much. The last update to it got Midnight Mutants working pretty well which I wanted to revisit more than anything else and updating it to the current ProSystem core is supposed to be coming but the maintainer also works on some other ports so being a busy guy it'll be done when it's done. I've got ProSystem running on my Linux (Ubuntu 9.10) compy through Wine. I've never seen it run on Windows, but from what I can tell its working pretty much flawlessly.

Thanks for replying guys! I already ordered one on eBay, some guy is apparently making new ones for a fairly reasonable price. It hasn't come yet, but I'll be sure to tell you guys about it when I do. In the mean time, I'll have to try the on/off button fix tonight to see if that works. Thanks again guys!

OK, cool, that's great to hear! I guess I didn't realize how unreliable the adapters are. Thanks a lot!

I've owned my 7800 for probably about 8 years and it's been working flawlessly since I got it. But a week ago, when I sat down to play some Ms. Pac-Man, it just wouldn't power on. Well, I should say that the LED light doesn't come on and there's no picture or sound. So I'm wondering, is it at all possible that it's the AC Adapter that failed? Or should I just go ahead and start looking for a new system? To answer some questions before they're asked: Yes, it's plugged in. Yes, I'm using the official 7800 adapter. No, I didn't drop it/throw it at the wall/play it in the bathtub. Yes, I'm sure it's a 7800 and not a plastic rectangle.

What's the best top-down RPG on the NES?
eddhead replied to vdub_bobby's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If Crystalis counts as an RPG (and not an action-RPG), then I would definitely say Crystalis!! I LOVE that game!!! -
I absolutely LOVED the first, and I am seriously pumped about this one too!! In what other game do you save on a toilet?!

(LOL! It's hilarious how quickly this conversation evolved!) I just thought I'd give my input on Apple vs. Microsoft. I hate both of them! Apple's products are overpriced and nearly impossible to repair yourself, not to mention the "Prius-owner-like" attitude that comes with owning an iPod. And Microsoft, among all of the other things wrong with the company, actually just does not care about customer satisfaction. Apparently, they just figure that people have come to accept their mediocrity, so they just don't bother to improve their products (and I'm not just talking about Windows, the XBox 360 is probably the worst constructed piece of crap ever conceived. Don't get me wrong, the games are great, but I bought mine in June 2007 and have sent it in for a repair 3 times! 3 TIMES!!!). For those who find themselves in my predicament, curled up in a corner and crying, there is an alternative: Linux!! I know it seems intimidating at first, but I've been running Ubuntu for about 6 months now and I've gotta say, I'm really impressed!
