I'm at 403 US/NTSC 2600 carts which includes variants if they have unique titles. Most recent acquisition is Obelix and rarest would be Tooth Protectors.

Are there plans to release the 1989-1990 edition in paperback (my preference)? I've been wanting to purchase these for ages, and almost did at CGF a few weekends ago, but just couldn't budget it. I'd love to pick up all 3 at once. -
I would happily throw money towards Kickstarting a 5200 Redemption reboot. I really want one.

Random Terrain, I spent a good hour reading the E.T. sections of your site and while doing so, I could almost convince myself that E.T. -was- fun. It definitely brought back a lot of nostagia, and it's great to read someone who truly loved/loves the game. Major complaints are all addressed, like the awful collision detection (something I had almost mentioned earlier but didn't). I have played it as an adult (it's been several years) and I still didn't like it. We were right even as children: E.T. is a bad game!
-
I voted Yes. I'm actually surprised more of you really defend E.T.! As someone who spent MANY hours playing E.T. back then with my huge extended family, I'll just say that I disliked E.T. and all my family and friends/neighbors did also. It was known for being bad. And frustrating. Do I think it should be buried forever? No, that's censorship! But I do agree that no one should have to play the abomination called E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. It's just awful! Awful. I just assumed that was obvious to anyone who had played the game back then. Raiders of the Lost Ark was hard to figure out but still a good game. E.T. simply provided no moments of enjoyment, ever. To think of people digging through heaps of dirt and trash to find a crusty E.T. cartridge is truly laughable. It's a bad game.

Yep, if you haven't played it, you simply need to.

My experiences were mixed as well, and I'll no longer buy anything from him. I made 2 very large orders with him over about 2 years; the first one went pretty smooth, the second was kind of a mess and the third never panned out. My 2nd order had a smashed 32X cart and a Coleco cart in horrible condition, which he refunded. My 3rd order: he had just relocated to FL and had a lot of inventory to go through. Ok fine, I'm as patient as a saint. But after not hearing from him for weeks, I kept having to write him to ask about my order. He always complained of being to busy with work. In my order there were 3 NES games (among a bunch of others), and snapped at me that he has to go through hundreds or thousands of carts just to find the 3 I wanted. Well, do you want my business or not? I did get a lot of great games from him that I still treasure, but I told him politely that if he can't fill my order in a timely manner, tying up money, that I'll take my business elsewhere. He said he understood and seemed almost relieved that he wouldn't have to bother.

The Framemeister introduces around 20ms of lag, which is less than a frame for a 30fps source. Input lag has never been a problem for me, ever. Your TV, however, will interlace a 240p signal which will make it lag. You can find more info on the XRGB-Mini wiki: http://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php/XRGB-mini_FRAMEMEISTER#Does_XRGB_Mini_add_input_lag_.3F Oh yeah, bump for a great modder! I spent the last 5 days off playing my NES, and it was incredible. Must have played dozens of games, from gems (RCR, Zelda) to turds (Chubby Cherub anyone??). The NESRGB held up perfectly to my NES playathon. My hands... not so much. They're damn sore! -

You said you have a UK (PAL) SCART cable that you use with your (NTSC) SNES? PAL cables have 75 ohm resistors and lack the 220uF caps that NTSC cables have. Your PAL cable on your NTSC N64 console could be your problem. Try buying this cable, which is wired for NTSC consoles: http://www.retrogamingcables.com/super-nintendo-ntsc-rgb-av-scart-cable-av-lead-cord-for-sale.html I'm no expert though, so my apologies if I steer you in the wrong direction. Any further questions and you might make a new thread rather than clutter up Yurkie's thread here. Welcome, and good luck! PS - I didn't watch the whole video, but chunk that Chinese piece of crap and get a Framemeister! -
Yurkie's N64 & NES RGB mods *NESRGB in Stock US Distributor*

This has been a point of contention among those that know a lot more about this stuff than me. Some people use the same cables (which have 200 uF caps) for their NTSC NES, SNES and N64 and seem to have no problems. Others say there is need for caps in the cable since the NESRGB board already has them. If you want everything as perfect as you can make it (like myself), you'll want to err on the side of caution and use regular cables for SNES and N64, and a cable without caps for NES. Here is Robert's response (from retrogamingcables.com) when I asked him: -
No one is collecting the CAT Oil Sampling Game (until a crate of unused carts at the warehouse turns up!), but it's on the list. I figured the double-enders were still "unique releases" in their own right, available at the time in stores, so would (should?) be on the list. Not trying to ruffle feathers, I was just curious Perhaps they could go in the addendum?
-
Why aren't the Xonox double-enders included in this list?

Great Games Unique to a Console?
glazball replied to davidcalgary29's topic in Classic Console Discussion
hehe yea, twas just a nitpick. Still holding firm that computer platforms shouldn't count if discussing consoles. Especially back then, there were clear divisions between a "console" and a "home computer." Consoles were for the kids and family, hooked up to a regular television, had a joystick/controller, no keyboard and were for games and games only. Computers were for dads and nerds, had a keyboard, and games were only 1 use out of many. I think that idea has carried through even through today. Sure, the Dreamcast had an optional keyboard and mouse, but no one would call it a "home computer." Anyways, sorry to derail your thread OP. My vote for best unique game on the DC: Cannon Spike! -
Great Games Unique to a Console?
glazball replied to davidcalgary29's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm gong to nitpick back because you used 2 of my choices in your nitpick. Atari 8-bit, C64, MSX and VIC-20 are not consoles. Platforms yes, but not consoles. Also, a homebrew port of Squish Em Sam on 2600 doesn't count, nor should any homebrew count. Edit: Just saw your post carlsson and I disagree - the OP said console, which is a different beast. I think computers should be left out of a discussion of unique console games. -
Yurkie's N64 & NES RGB mods *NESRGB in Stock US Distributor*
glazball replied to Yurkie's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I got my NESRGB modded console back from Yurkie yesterday, and need to take some time away from playing to gush about how wonderful it is. Yurkie modded my CV a while back and did a wonderful, professional-looking job so I knew I could trust him with my NES. (He also RGB modded my N64 at the same time as my NES, also awesome in its own right, but I want to mainly talk about NES right now!) Tim's NESRGB board + Yurkie's install = worth every damn penny! That's the quick summary for you. I'm incredibly pleased with both the quality of the NESRGB board and Yurkie's installation using the standard Nintendo multi-out. Like his CV mod, it breathed new life into my NES. Let me explain that until recently, I was against modifying any of my consoles. Unless it's for a repair or refurb, I hate the thought of even opening a console, much less changing the designers' intentions, for better or worse. I hate seeing ugly holes cut into consoles, random knobs, screws, toggle switches, etc. I know that is blasphemy to some, but it's just how I am. (It's only because I have an extra CV, NES and N64 that I decided to get them modded.) My objective is to have the best possible video from each game console I own. I use an XRGB-Mini Framemeister and every console that can output RGB is hooked up via RGB. Since the NES could previously only output RGB with the PlayChoice-10 PPU mod which had color issues, high cost, etc, I had resigned myself to the fact that the best I would ever get out of the NES was composite. At least it was better than the crappy RF we had as kids, but boy still looked assy even through the Framemeister. When I saw that Yurkie was doing the mods for this new NESRGB board, I had to jump on it. Right now as I type this my 9 year old stepson is playing Mega Man 5 (with Game Genie cheats enabled mind you, the game is hard as shit!), and damn, the picture quality is absolutely gorgeous! I'm enjoying just being able to sit and watch. Tim's board is truly wonderful. Colors are bright and the picture is sharp and vibrant. It makes the NES truly shine. Granted, I've only had it back since yesterday, so I haven't had a chance yet to play many different titles. That will have to wait until next week since I've got several days off of work to spend in RGB heaven. The truly wonderful thing about Yurkie's install is that it looks natural, essentially unmodded-looking which really appeals to me. Instead of having a knob or switch (even a concealed switch on the bottom) to select the palette, I opted to have the palette set to Natural/Normal and simply go without the palette select. I'll attach a picture of the install. Clean, solid, almost like it was always there. Great job Yurkie! Another great perk of using the standard Nintendo multi-out is it can be used with other cables, so if you wanted to hook it up via composite or S-video, you can. Even S-video through the NESRGB looks striking. As far as picture quality, the NESRGB is up there with Genesis and Neo which both have superior RGB output. I can't say enough good things about it. It's heart-melting and I just love it. I'll attach 3 pictures for sake of comparison: composite, S-video and RGB. Hopefully you can see the difference in quality, and of course these pictures do not do any kind of justice to seeing in person. Composite S-video RGB One other thing I wanted to mention is RGB cables. I highly recommend Retro Gaming Cables based out of UK (www.retrogamingcables.com). This is the cable you want, and the (very friendly) owner Robert will make the cable without the 220uF caps since the NESRGB board already has them. http://www.retrogamingcables.com/super-nintendo-ntsc-rgb-av-scart-cable-av-lead-cord-for-sale.html Yurkie, thanks again! You do great work and we're lucky to have you! Everyone else, what are you waiting for?? (I mean, besides more NESRGB boards. They are selling like hotcakes!) Send Yurkie your systems, enjoy and happy gaming. -
Great Games Unique to a Console?

Turbo wasn't unique to CV as it was also released for Intellivision. Lots of good answers in this thread! My votes go to Squish Em Sam on CV, Shark! Shark! and Astrosmash on Intellivision. For 2600... damn that's hard. I'll go with Turmoil. -
Keatah, if you can't find evidence of mind control, you're not paying attention. There are 2 types, individual mind control (examples: hypnosis, brainwashing, Manchurian Candidate, MK-ULTRA, subliminal advertising, etc) and mass mind control (propaganda). Do your homework. OP, thanks for posting.

Systems you still own from the original release
glazball replied to madman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have few systems that were bought by me new, or handed down from family members, all boxed: Atari 2600 - belonged to my grandparents. Our huge family played the hell out of it, and we went through a ton of joysticks! Intellivision - my aunt and uncle gave me their system and games that we used to spend hours on ColecoVision - another aunt had the CV, it was always our favorite system. She loved it and still asks me now and then if I'm still taking care of it! N64 - by the time I was older, I learned not to sell off my "dying" systems, like I did with NES and Genesis Dreamcast - bought on launch day 9/9/99 PS2 - got a month after launch (they were impossible to find then!) GameCube - launch day Wii - launch day PS3 -

I look at it this way Tempest: A Sony PVM may be a wonderful monitor (I don't know from experience) but eventually, it's gonna break or have some issues with picture quality. A Framemeister, if treated nicely, should last many, many years and chances are for the rest of your life, you're going to have a TV with an HDMI in and at least 720p resolution. In fact, 720p is all you really need for the FM. If you prefer scanlines, they actually work better in 720p over 1080p (last time I checked, I haven't updated my firmware in a long while). Pull the trigger. You won't regret it. -

I'm going to be sending Yurkie my N64 and NES soon for RGB treatment. I had written off getting RGB from those 2 consoles because they require modification, something I'm typically against. But since Yurkie is doing it, I know it will be done with care. And honestly, I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl with excitement. Seeing games via RGB through my Framemeister on my 50" plasma is my greatest joy nowadays. I sometimes find myself staring and admiring the art and animation of a game while playing, almost as if I'd never truly seen the game before. RGB is totally the way to go. If you've looked into a Framemeister or RGB at all, you'll see everyone saying the same thing. And it's TRUE! It's beautiful. I like to impress my friends by showing them what a game looks like via composite (that everyone knows), then via RGB. It always gets a response. I haven't yet compared S-video to RGB, but I know my N64 (currently using S-video) will be breathtaking via RGB. I checked the site for the NESRGB mod and he is out of stock. I'm even more eager to finally see my NES games via RGB. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled, and in the meantime, send Yurkie your N64! I'll update here once I've gotten mine back. -
Umm yea, good luck with that!

fyi, a new Duo would include the pack-in games. You sure this is "unopened"?
