While at Gamestop over the holidays, I was happy to see they had multiple copies of both Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy. They tried lowering the price, but they just aren't selling. I admit, I enjoy pointing and laughing at them because their little scheme backfired. Gamestop had them reprinted in a lame attempt to gouge their customers. I'm fine with the idea of reprinting games, since they are (usually) identical to the original, but Gamestop didn't sell them new for $50 but used for $90! Man, that makes me angry. Also, their new reprints of MPT are not the Collector's Edition in the steel case - just a plain white Wii case - but they are trying to sell them for escalated prices the same as the CE. Dirty, just dirty. (Xenoblade looks identical, as far as I can tell.)

@ the last 3 who replied: Please read the first post! I'm not making or selling these, only trying to make it easy for anyone to make them. Download my .pdf attachments, buy the label paper from onlinelabels.com and print them with the instructions above. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm throwing around the idea of making labels for Odyssey^2 carts also. I have about half boxed and half loose, and may give up trying to complete a boxed collection (though I love the O2 box art so much!) Not sure how well labels would work with the handles on the carts, but I'll experiment and post what I come up with in this thread.

You're right Lynxpro, and no offense taken here. The more I look at his labels, I suppose they are the most "authentic" as to what probably would have existed had Atari made end labels. I guess when I said authentic, I was meaning in terms of quality: glossy finish, sharp text/images and good adhesive. I considered making similar (solid color) labels for myself, but wanted the rainbow somehow, either as a stripe or the Atari logo. In the end what I did was take the shortest route. I simply cropped the spine from the box arts on thecoverproject.net and shopped them to work as a label (adjusted size, centering, etc). Here's a box art for Berzerk so you can see what I mean: There is also the issue of 3rd-party titles that wouldn't have necessarily conformed to Atari's designs: Meteorites, Miner 2049er, Quest for Quintana Roo. Though I did make test labels, to me, putting an Atari font on them would just be wrong. I kept it simple across the board: whatever artwork was on the box spine was going on the label. Like I mentioned, I am horrible with Photoshop - I haven't used it in years, and had to teach myself some stuff. It was definitely a fun learning experience. I know that there ARE people out there who are masters of working with PS and other graphic design software, who would probably laugh at how easy it can be to make something as simple as labels. I wish one of you could have mercy on the perpetually hated-on 5200 by designing some professional labels and making them available. I do like the simplicity of PacManPlus's labels and maybe I'll go back and rethink mine. Try out a few other things. I have a friend coming by this evening that's coming by this evening, so maybe I'll just pick his brain for some tips!

PacManPlus posted pictures of his blue labels, but I never found that he made them available. bah also made his own which were also blue: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/136360-ahh-end-labels/ I agree with AtariBrian that they should be shiny silver to match the front label (mine are the same gray from the box art). Originally I tried to use the fancier titles from box art on carts with special artwork, like Berzerk, Choplifter, Robotron 2084, etc (as opposed to Countermeasure, RealSports, etc that just have the plain Atari font). It proved too difficult for me, but my hope is that someone can make nicer ones. Hopefully Albert or someone can print and cut them to a lovely 3 1/2 x 1/2" and make them available here! title from box art: first attempt to use it just doesn't look clean/professional: so I settled on using the Atari font for the final label:

Hi friends! As we all know, carts for our beloved Atari 5200 console surprisingly did not come with labels on the top, making it very frustrating to find a particular title. OK, not as bad as loose N64 carts, but still bothersome. I have been scouring the forums, have asked around, and it seems that no one has made end labels (top labels) for the 5200 and made them publicly available. Many people say to just use a Dymo label maker (and I say boo to that!) I asked a few people who have made end labels for other consoles, and no one had any interest in making labels for the 5200. I finally realized, with some encouragement from bah, to attempt to just make my own. I decided to do that and I'd like to put them out here for the community to use, if anyone so desires. My intention was to make a label for every cart that was unidentifiable in a loose collection. --- EDIT 12/22: Based on feedback and thinking about them more, I redesigned the 5200 labels to look more authentic to what Atari may have released, if they had put end labels on themselves. I scrapped the box art spine idea and made these from scratch. I think they look 1000 times better and really make the games look gorgeous. I've very happy (and somewhat surprised) with how nicely they turned out. The previous labels were grey, the same color as the box art. The grey didn't really look right as a label, nor were they really consistant with Atari's end labels before and after the 5200. These new labels use the cobalt blue of the 5200 box art with a rainbow stripe across the top. Care was taken to put trademark symbols where appropriate, in the correct places (as if Atari had made them) and that the RealSports font is correct. I hope you'll agree they look sharp. Post updated below with new pics and instructions, along with the new .pdf template. Here is a pic of the labels themselves: --- Just to be clear, I'm not selling labels. I'm simply supplying the label templates I used and info on how I made mine, in the hopes of making it easy for others. I used a site - www.onlinelabels.com - to make them, but also want to make clear that I'm not associated with them. I did have a nice transaction and recommend them; if you do want to print your own labels, my instructions will be using the templates they use. Basically, you would have to buy the label paper from them and print the .pdf below to it. What kind of paper and how much you get is all up to you. Of course, you should plan on getting extra because you will most likely have some issues with alignment. Each label is 3.125" x .5" These are the longest labels I could find that were suitable. Sadly, they look a little short and really should be 3.5" x .5" I designed these labels using box art from thecoverproject.net and my pathetic Photoshop skills. I barely know how to use PS, so these labels are nothing fancy but I think these blue ones turned out quite well. I originally made them simply white text on blue, and decided to see how it would look with the rainbow stripe across the top. I think the splash of color looks nice (but could easily make an alternate set without the rainbow stripe). The 5200 labels require Template OL1543 at onlinelabels.com: http://www.onlinelabels.com/OL1543.htm To experiment, I bought 3 different kinds of their paper for my laser printer: Standard White Matte, White Gloss Laser and Weatherproof Laser. I had best results with White Gloss Laser. The White Matte is workable and doesn't look bad, but the glossy truly looks best for these blue labels. The Weatherproof did not print correctly for me at all. When printing from my Mac -> Samsung laser printer, I used Preview with the default "US Letter" page setting, "Glossy Photo" paper type and "Best" quality. For PC users, I don't imagine it could be much different. However, I haven't tested them on a PC or an inkjet printer. The template of the label paper doesn't leave any room for "bleed" so it will need to be pretty exact. You can print a blank template from the website and use it to help align before wasting label paper. Here are some pics of my collection: Someone much more artistic/talented than myself should make replacement labels for CBS games, totally identical to the original and applied over the old sticker, upside-down, so the game name reads on the end. I'm not ever eager to deface a label, but I could make an exception for CBS carts. I recently came across an extra Blueprint who's corner was peeling, so I slowly removed the label and applied it the "correct" way, to see how it would look. Forgiving the damage the left cart's label took from being peeled off, which looks better to you? I also made a set of Vectrex labels for my loose collection. I used box art for them and they turned out pretty authentic-looking. If someone with good printing equipment can make fancier ones, please do and sell them on the forums for cost + postage! The Vectrex labels require Template OL6950 and White Gloss Laser looked best to me. http://www.onlinelabels.com/OL6950.htm I hope this helps, and if anyone tries printing/making their own, I'm interested to know your results. Cheers! 5200_blue_labels_template_OL1543.pdf vectrex_labels_template_OL6950.pdf

I'm interested in one. Can you post more info/pics? -
I'm pretty pissed at mrbigreddog also, and have finally given up trying to deal with him. Enough is enough. If you are considering buying labels or dealing with him, I suggest you not send him a single dime! He ignores and avoids people. If there is a problem, he certainly doesn't go out of his way to correct it. One member (of another forum) who contacted me told me he never received his labels months after sending payment, and was also being ignored! That's just plain old stealing. DON'T DEAL WITH MRBIGREDDOG. See my post in his feedback thread for more info: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/168568-mrbigreddog/?do=findComment&comment=2865123

Where to start?? If you are considering buying from mrbigreddog, I would suggest you not send him your money. He ignores emails and messages, doesn't make good on his sales, and overall is a jerk. In December 2012, I wrote mrbigreddog to buy a set of N64 end labels. He told me he had one set left, and not wanting to miss out, I immediately sent payment and bought end labels for 32X and Jaguar at the same time. They took a few weeks to arrived because, he said, he accidentally sent them to the wrong person and had to wait for them to be returned! When the labels arrived, the pages were loose in a manila envelope. A few labels had become dislodged - the worst was Kasumi Ninja which had been bent and creased. The labels were excellent quality, like most people on the forums have attested to. However, as I began applying the N64 labels, I saw that a few were missing and random duplicates had been put in their place (so it didn't look like any were missing). Part of the blame does lie with me in that I didn't go over each and every label after they arrived to make sure they were complete. However, with so many satisfied previous customers, I didn't feel it necessary. Mrbigreddog did sent replacements for the missing N64 labels and Kasumi Ninja. A few months later, I noticed the label for Hey You Pikachu was misprinted. It was missing the "Nintendo 64" text. He ignored me, completely. I wrote him here and on NintendoAge, as well as at the email I had from our PayPal transaction. Out of frustration I posted a complaint on NA, and another user wrote and told me he had paid in full for labels, months had passed without receiving them, and was obviously unhappy. He, too, was being ignored. For MONTHS. (While my complaint may have been trivial, completely screwing someone who has paid you is just horrible.) Finally, mrbigreddog replied and agreed to sent the replacement Hey You Pikachu label. The label I received was of much poorer quality, blurry and even worse about half a centimeter shorter than the other labels! My emails/messages asking for a "quality" replacement label went ignored. By this point, I had washed my hands of mrbigreddog but sadly, noticed when I went to label a new N64 cart that I was missing the label! I got a list of N64 games, and went through them one by one. I realized that when he had cut the pages, he had cut off a row of 3 across the top or bottom of a page. I didn't want to, but there was no way I was going to have a set of labels minus 3 so I wrote him again and explained the situation. Of course, I was ignored again for MONTHS. About a month ago, I got a response from him saying he was working with a new printer and was going to "outsource" my missing labels. He said he would need about 2 weeks. After 2 weeks (now October of 2013), I wrote him again, got ignored… and ignored. I finally wrote and said unless I see something tangible from you in the next few days, I'm going to buy similar labels from an eBay seller (buying 2 sets of labels was something I really wanted to avoid) and head to the forums to begin writing about how crappy he has been. I got no response to that. So now I've had to waste even more of my time having to explain all this. If you look at other posts about this jerk, you'll see he's had the same attitude here for years. Look for the "Open Letter to mrbigreddog" from 2011 where he flakes out on others. He responds with this bs. It wasn't his fault, it was the weather: Again, don't deal with this jerk. His labels WERE excellent, but whatever setup he had, it's gone and if there's a problem, he's not going to make it right. Enough is enough. Jerk!

PS3 Hidden Gems/Best Games So Far

I'd like to give a huge thumbs up to 3D Dot Game Heroes also. The very definition of a hidden gem! A few others that come to mind: Dragon's Crown Ni no Kuni Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard Eternal Sonata -
I had a PS4 preordered, but decided a while back to cancel it and get my money back. There just wasn't enough to truly sell me on it at launch. The very next day, Ubisoft announced Watch Dogs was delayed (one of two games I was going to purchase), so now I'm happy I did cancel. I waited over 2 years to finally buy a PS3, and it worked out very nicely for me. I think giving PS4 six months or a year will be a good idea too.

Interesting, and I'm even willing to believe this (if I can confirm it), but I went to both sites mentioned and couldn't find anything else about this on either one. Do you have any other links about this? -
Hi friends. I have an extra copy of TMNT IV - Turtles in Time that I'd like to pass along. Looking to get $33 shipped in the US (Canada would be a few dollars extra). The game is in excellent condition, tested and works fine. Thanks for looking!

In case you need another reason to hate Gamestop, it seems they either reprinted Xenoblade Chronicles or held back the supply because within the last week, they've "procured" a ton of copies and are selling them for $90. Every store nearby me has a copy for sale and you can also buy it online. It looks like they hoarded stock (to keep supply low, remember they were the only retailer to sell it), recently removed shrinkwrap and are selling them as "used" so they can keep all the profit. Bastards. http://kotaku.com/extreme-gamestop-pricing-leaves-some-fans-calling-scam-1108627828 http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/14/xenoblade-and-metroid-prime-being-restocked-at-gamestop

Just got a lot of nice N64 carts from Austin, and they look great. Great transaction all around, thanks man!
-
The seller, after months of ignoring me, finally made good (or barely tried to) and sent a replacement label for my N64 set. Unlike my originals which are sharp, high-quality and professional looking, this one was from a new batch and looked blurry and assy. It was also half a centimeter shorter. Basically, it's useless. Not sure what the seller's problem is, but buyer beware. Hopefully he'll chime in at some point and gets his $#!+ together.

Payment has been sent for Sea Wolf/Bombardier, thanks! Free bump for a friendly seller -
PacManPlus those look really nice! Thanks for linking. (I've searched the forums for 5200 end label info without much luck.) If you are recollecting 5200 carts, is there any chance you'll be making more end labels and would you make an extra set for yours truly? I imagine there are many others who would buy a set as well. I like to think I'm a bit artsy, but I know I could never make labels that look professional enough for my liking.

Item arrived quickly and was packaged nicely. Great transaction, many thanks!
