  1. Frogs & Flies and Circus Atari are both great suggestions Smurf Rescue good ole Hangman Centipede hasn't been mentioned either and it has an easy mode for children
  2. Those Data Age replacement labels look nice, but I can't help wondering if it hurts the authenticity to replace them. Like Video said, the dings and tears are part of each cart's charm. Of course, it's completely understandable to replace if the label is missing. Maybe I've been watching too much Antiques Roadshow lately (yea, go ahead and laugh), but I can see an appraiser looking at the carts 50 years from now: "As you can see, someone replaced the label on this Sssnake cart at some point in its history. I would put a value on this piece of $100 but if it still had the original label, it would sell for 5 to 600 dollars at auction. Thanks for bringing it in!"
  3. Why do I feel like we just keep going in circles in this thread??
  4. My understanding is the X in PSX is just a shorthand abbreviation for a bunch of letters - similar to how an illiterate person can sign their name with X. You see it a lot in the medical field with Dx for diagnosis, Sx for symptom, Rx for prescription, etc.
  5. Since we're arguing semantics now... You meant "I sent a crowdfunding site my money to help an inexperienced and deceptive holding company design, develop and build an Onyx one", since they have nothing to "buy" yet. There is no guarantee that you'll get what you paid for and a high probability that you will get absolutely nothing for your money. But you knew that going into it right? The only backer mindset that makes any kind of sense to me is someone who won't miss $200+. (I've never had the too-much-money-wtf-do-I-do-with-all-of-it problem myself, but some people have money to burn obviously!)
  6. Mike Kennedy had Retro magazine that was going to feature articles, ads, etc for the Retro VGS / Coleco Chameleon, so it only makes sense for Atari SA to do the same for the Ataribox. We can mark that checkbox off the list now too.
  7. Flojo, it's going to be an exotic collectable! jk, no I really wouldn't, but I also don't play the lottery. I was just trying to keep the peace and not sound mean calling out Dr. Manhattan Honestly though, the only way anyone could justify giving money to this crowdfunding campaign is if they truly wouldn't miss (or truthfully, just don't want) their money. They certainly won't get it back.
  8. Maybe I could share your enthusiasm if I won $500 from the lottery, too. The rest of us have to work to earn money, and I'll be damned if I give one cent to AtaREEEEEEE SA who will likely never release the Ataribox... err VCS. And please don't construe this as an attack on you I'm just jealous because I would have likely done the same thing with lottery winnings. So, I suppose you can be our AA guinea pig! When this project goes belly up and everyone on IGG is "invoking their rights to refunds, please", you won't have lost anything!
  9. Who are you speaking to exactly? You are completely misrepresenting all of us (on AA and elsewhere) who are skeptical about this system and Atari SA's ability to produce it. No one here wants this project to fail. We simply want Atari SA to be honest and open about what they want to do and not insult our intelligence with ridiculous marketing. They have done exactly the opposite EVERY step of the way so far. Many of us watched this exact process unfold when Mike Kennedy was trying to crowdfund a console (Retro VGS/Coleco Chameleon) using his Jaguar molds - with absolutely no hardware, software, or engineering abilities whatsoever. So, you are either intentionally muddying the waters here with your fake hype, or you are seriously devoid of any critical thinking skills.
  10. I truly don't understand how it's not a criminal offense to take "pre-orders" through a crowdfunding site, with no obligation to ever deliver that order.
  11. I'm nowhere near you so not interested, but just wanted to suggest that you may have more interest if you give some kind of idea what and how much you have. I've noticed people have wildly different ideas of what a "large collection" is. Glwys!
  12. It's just fascinating reading the comment section on the Gameband kickstarter. (JBerel, thanks for keeping the link handy!) Are The Historian and David Hooker (Agentdave7) the same person?
  13. That's because there is no "new info."
  14. Dr. Manhattan, we would ALL love answers to those questions but no one in this thread can answer them. The only one who possibly could (The Historian) hasn't posted one single bit of useful information in this whole thread and now claims to not be involved with Ataribox, so we are all left pissing in the wind.
  15. I've been enjoying reading the Gameband comments on Kickstarter. Just like our taco talk, they've taken to debating which Schwarzenegger is the most badass (Commando Arnie or Predator Arnie?) because they have no information or updates from Feargal. I also think it's interesting that earlier, when The Historian was pointedly asked about Gameband status (since he claims to still be involved), he disappears! I'm shocked! SHOCKED I say!
  16. TG was right to remove all of Mitchell's high scores, including his "perfect Pac-Man." A total purge was the best course of action. Xelnia (who started the dispute on TG) is a mod on the Donkey Kong Forum and his decision was to leave Billy's ~990K score which was performed live - which was a generous gesture in light of his (Billy's) years of deception.
  17. Actually, the big KoK-smoker himself can't even honestly claim the first perfect Pac-Man. Bill Bastable did it (more than once) in the 80s. The reason Billy got credit was because he broke a "gentleman's agreement" among the top Pac-Man players to compete for that honor live, but Billy jumped ahead and did it earlier. In addition, Billy gets credit because the settings were changed from factory (3 lives) to max (5 lives), allowing him to eke out those few extra points. That way, no one could possibly outscore him (unless someone finds a way past the kill screen). Watch Dwayne Richard's half-assed documentary on YT called The Perfect Fraudman which includes interviews with Bill Bastable, Rick Fothergill and others. Very eye-opening, even though it is low budget and has low production values.
  18. Douchebags gonna douche... I'd like to say "good riddance" but I have the sinking suspicion that this drama is just the next plot twist in an upcoming King of Kong 2 movie.
  19. To my eyes, I would say the first name looks like Zack (with a cursive-y 'Z') not Jack.
  20. You should double-check your spelling before hitting Post My 2c - calling the Ataribox the Atari VCS is pure and utter bullshit.
  21. The PSP emulator is called lr-PPSSPP. You'll have to install it from either the Optional or Experimental menu (can't remember right now). I have briefly tested it with a few games, but can't speak to how it performs with extended play.
  22. According to this BBC article that I read yesterday, the researchers "used an updated version of the game" - whatever the hell that means!
  23. I've always been under the impression that you can't force all DC games to VGA, though you can force some with the VGA box switch trick. Going by this list Also, I feel you for wanting the best quality from the DC but S-Video for those few games that don't support VGA isn't the end of the world imo.
  24. Perfectly stated Cynicaster! YouTube is blocked at work, so I can't provide a link, but I watched a video last night by Dwayne Richard called King of Kong Lies who discusses a lot of this and more. Though we know the KoK took many liberties and created a mostly false narrative, Dwayne states that Walter, Billy, Steve Sanders and even Steve Wiebe were actually purposefully creating drama and acting for the camera. For instance, the scene where Walter decides to enter Billy's iffy score wasn't done just because Walter trusts Billy, but specifically to create drama for the cameras. Another instance: when Steve Sanders says Wiebe and Alpiger showed up "unexpectedly and uninvitedly". We know that wasn't true, but what prompted Sanders to say that? It would seem he was acting - for dramatic effect. Another: regarding the "break-in" at Wiebe's house while he was away. We know that they didn't really "break in" but were let in, but Wiebe and his wife had to basically act as if they did for the camera. I don't think Wiebe is wholly dishonest or anything, but he hasn't gone out of his way to correct the matter. Dwayne also relays information about Steve Sanders and Billy Mitchell selling their life stories. I'm eager to hear more info about this too, but it certainly makes sense. Now that there are talks of a King of Kong 2 possibly happening, it's becoming clearer what their motivations are for the drama, the deception, the controversy. I feel like I'll have to boycott KoK2 if it has anything to do with Billy Mitchell, which I'm sure it will.
  25. I read that article last night myself. I suppose their mention of Activision forming and the video game crash was "Atari" enough for them. I thought it was even weirder that the release of the Sega Master System got it's own entry, but I would hardly call the SMS a milestone in (US) vg history. That spot belongs to Atari VCS. I have to agree zzip - game journalism loves to overlook everything pre-NES. Considering that a lot of younger gamers are probably the main audience of Game Informer, I guess I was glad to see any vg history mentioned, even if it is skewed against the very systems and people that created the whole darn industry!
