Todd Rogers banned from Twin Galaxies and records removed
glazball replied to HalHawkins's topic in Atari 2600
@Omnigamer - thank you for your further explanations @Supergun - I agree 100% and I'll take it even further. In a recent interview, Billy referred to the people questioning His Highness' high scores as the "lonely losers club", and continues to bold-faced lie about his scores not being MAME generated. Even if it turns out everyone was horribly mistaken, what kind of grown man and supposed ambassador for video games calls people names like that? A cheater, a liar, and a poor sportsman - he can just fuck right off. I almost shook Billy's hand at CGF last year - I'm glad I didn't. -
Pi3 kit - $50 shipped from Amazon which includes a case and power supply 64GB micro SD - $20 shipped controller and HDMI cable - unsure but most people have a PS3 or 360 controller and HDMI cable around RetroPie - free Again, not trying to thread-crap - just a bit of sticker shock since I just put one together myself during the holidays. They are a lot of fun and I hope it finds a good home. glwts!

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (SNES)
glazball replied to MaximRecoil's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Many fond memories of SFII - both in the arcades as well as renting it for SNES and having tournaments with friends. Excluding NeoGeo, I feel like the SNES port of SFII was the first time we saw an almost arcade-perfect port of a game on a home console. Up until then, there was always at least some minor issue in a home port that kept it from being as good as the arcade original. For instance, Golden Axe and Altered Beast were great on Genesis, but didn't look or play quite as good as the arcade. That seemed to end with SNES SFII - the 2 were almost identical. That's my memory anyways. -
Still searching for these. Not too picky on condition, fair or better is just fine!

I have the official Gamecube component cables, but this looks to be an even better solution if it works as well as it sounds. I just feel like there must be a catch... somewhere! btw, where would I buy (or preorder) and how much is it?

Ben Heck’s Todd Roger’s Dragster 5.51 record Part2
glazball replied to CapitanClassic's topic in Atari 2600
So again, more words and non-answers from Twin Galaxies. I trust David Crane's opinion. However, he never claims in that interview that he personally witnessed (or even saw photographic evidence of) Todd's 5.51 score. His opinion is that he believes Todd, but we all did until it was shown that his score is mathematically impossible. -
Excellent, tyvm Nikon!

Hi friends - newb here with MAME and I was hoping some of you gurus can answer a few questions I have. I've tried searching forums and google and can't find the answers to what I hope are simple questions. I am running MAME2003 on my RPi3 and using an X-Arcade Tankstick (which has 2 joysticks). Since many early games had only 1 joystick and 2 players had to take turns alternating, I've mapped buttons in certain games like Frogger to take inputs from stick 1 or stick 2. That way, when it's Player 2's turn, he can use the 2nd stick on the Tankstick. Is there any easier way to do this for alternating 2p games? For instance: P1 Up: Retropad1 Up or Retropad2 Up My other question is: when configuring buttons in MAME, how to you enter a not option? I did it the other day on accident and don't know how I did it! I'm curious to try the not option on games with 4-way joysticks like Frogger. If you move Frogger right but also hit slightly up-right, Frogger can move up possibly into traffic, getting squished. Is it possible to tell MAME -not- to accept up-right or up-left for up? For instance: P1 Up: Retropad1 Up not Retropad1 Up-Left not Retropad1 Up-Right I certainly appreciate any help/tips!

Finally got to pull out the Dreamcast and spend some very quality time with it. I'm happy to report that I have no issues with the Tankstick and their 5-in-1 adapter with the Dreamcast. No lag whatsoever. Tested several shooters and fighers and all handled beautifully. One drawback I did run into: many games upon starting always look at A1 for the VMU. Since the Tankstick is plugged into the first controller port, you have to continue without being able to save. You can work around it by starting with a regular controller + VMU, and just switching out with the Tankstick after the game starts. PITA but not really the fault of the Tankstick. I hate those games that won't look at all controller ports for VMUs! Still annoying even now! I'll attach a pic with the overlay which I think turned out really nice. I'm happy as shit with this thing. It may not be a Nintendo Tetris cartridge, but I love it.

Coleco Chameleon was going to have cartridge adapters. So, there's another box to check off.

Ben Heck’s Todd Roger’s Dragster 5.51 record Part2
glazball replied to CapitanClassic's topic in Atari 2600
Agree completely. Jace's actions betray another agenda though. Possibly just brewing up interest in Twin Galaxies and internet traffic, but that's speculation on my part. We all know everyone loves a good controversy. I think it's great Jace wouldn't want to rush to judgement. It's very wise, I'd say. When he says he needs an independent, 3rd party investigation (which we eventually found out was Ben Heck), you don't send the guy with the score in question to help the investigation! That's exactly the opposite of independent investigation (with all apologies to Ben, who along with you, Thomas, and a few others are gods among all us retro gaming proles). It's that kind of attitude I see from Jace that causes me to question his motives. I should also mention I'm not a member of TG and don't know much about Jace other than what I've seen in his posts. I'm just a curious and interested spectator... or perhaps rubbernecker is a better term since this dispute has become quite the trainwreck. -
Nothing personal here either I was responding mainly to the comment that a seller cancels an auction because it's "out of stock." That shouldn't happen, but no, it's not the end of the world. Let me make sure I understand what you said there about the other part. Are you suggesting it's justified that a seller cancel or refuse to ship when a item sells for a very low cost? If so, then yes, they are a "bad seller." (And yes, I've had that happen to me but it's been a long time thankfully). It just simply goes back to the auction contract. If you list an item and it sells, at whatever cost, you are obligated to ship it even if you take a loss. It works both ways too. If you bid on an item and win, you are obligated to pay for it, no matter what.

Same as here Feel free to block me or whatever you feel you need to do. Fwiw glip, I side with you completely in your thread about the Vectrex games. I'm not trying to hate on sellers, and I fully understand shitty buyers exist, but it's my opinion that buyer protection comes first. It has to. I've got plenty of stories of awful, awful sellers but now is not the time to get into it.
-
I agree except for the very last sentence. Nothing should be "out of stock" on ebay. If you don't have it in your hand, ready to ship, don't list it. That goes for mom & pop as well as powerhouse sellers.

Damn, that is a bummer to hear. Shame on me, but I haven't actually tested the adapter with the Dreamcast. I will do that this weekend and see if I experience lag as well. I can't help but wonder if maybe your adapter is just faulty since it sounds like a connection problem. I doubt that would explain the lag, but maybe you just need a new adapter?

I'm typically an original hardware/software purist, but I got an RPi3 for Xmas and I've dived headfirst into the world of emulation. RetroPie makes it quite simple and I'm enamored with it. A big draw for me (besides arcade emulation of course) has been setting up optional emulators for platforms like ZX Spectrum and Wonderswan, which I've never seen before. There are thousands of foreign games that I've never really had a chance to experience before now. I have about a million questions, give or take, but I'm trying to figure out as much as I can on my own. My main concern, at least today, is how to get Daphne to work. Finding the laserdisc data for games like Dragon's Lair is no easy feat. I know it's against forum rules to ask, but if anyone wants to pm me, I'd love some help! I'd even be willing to put money towards it, if I know it's legit (ie, phoenixdownita mentioned mamedvds.com in another thread which looks promising...)

Picked up a bunch of (mostly SNES) games from Synapse, and he was always friendly, quick to respond and quick to ship. Couldn't have asked for a better transaction. Thanks!

Actually, I'm not particularly a fan of Microsoft and don't own any flavor of Xbox. So, I can't speak to how well the Tankstick does or doesn't work with Xbox. I just mentioned the adapters for those who do have Xbox consoles, since they are available. Sorry to hear you've had trouble with X-Arcade though. I read similar complaints about their customer service while researching different sticks, but hopefully I'll never need it. Xgaming offers a lifetime warranty on their products, but some have said it can be hard to get them to follow through on it when needed.

Just wanted to add some follow-up thoughts to my post above: Nintendo's official Gamecube adapter that came with Smash Bros U only works with Smash Bros, per Nintendo. Though it's a bit sad that only 1 Wii U game is supported, it is the main Wii U game that I would like to use the Tankstick with. Unbeknownst to me, Nintendo added support for their Gamecube adapter to the Switch with firmware update 4.0 but didn't apparently advertise the fact. I didn't test every Switch game I own, but (unlike the Wii U) it looks as if the adapter should work with every game. X-Arcade also sells Wii adapters which have connectors that plug into the bottom of the Wiimote. I'm happy they offer them, but I elected not to get them since there are only a handful of Wii games that I feel would be worthwhile for the Tankstick. However, it might be possible with that Wii adapter to plug the Tankstick into a NES or SNES Classic (don't they have the same connections?) That Wii adapter should also allow for full Wii U support on other games besides Smash Bros. U like Injustice, Tekken Tag 2, New SMB, etc. Pretty incredible that the Tankstick can support: PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC/Mac/RPi. Sure it would be great if older systems like SNES had support, but it's only too easy to just play an emulated version on RPi or Xbox or whatever. Be aware that the PS4 adapters they sell (and it looks like the Xbox One adapters too) are 1p only, so for a Tankstick you would need to buy 2. I purchased a Tankstick overlay from these guys but it hasn't shipped yet: https://www.recroommasters.com/Custom-Die-Cut-Overlay-Skin-for-the-X-Arcade-p/cus-overlay-t.htm I hope to eventually add 2 spinners. I think what might work best for me is: (on each side) drill a 3rd hole on the bottom row of buttons, move the bottom 2 buttons over and put the spinner in the bottom left buttonhole. This way you wouldn't lose any buttons and I don't think the spinners would get in the way. One USB cable would exit the Tankstick for both spinners. http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86&products_id=268&zenid=b71907f14db9efe9fcde896ab873e07b And lastly, thanks to Akator and Master Phruby for answering a few questions about the Tankstick before I made my purchase!

Ordered the Tankstick on a Tuesday and it arrived Friday. Wow! Here's my quick review. I love it. It's absolutely perfect (for me). I looked at other control panels, some hundreds of dollars more expensive, but they only had USB/PC support (no consoles). That just wasn't going to cut it for me. I bought the 5-in-1 adapter and PS4 adapters. The 5-in-1 adapter has connections for Dreamcast, Gamecube and PS1&2. The PS4 adapters are made by a 3rd party (Brook) and ALSO work with PS3. Their site didn't mention they are PS4 and PS3 adapters, and since I also purchased X-Arcade's PS3/Xbox adapter I'll return it since I don't need it. I've spent the last few days in absolute heaven. Here's what I have tested: Tankstick -> PS3/4 adapter -> PS3 *works perfect with PS3 and PS1 games (sadly, not PS2 in my backwards-comp PS3) Tankstick -> PS3/4 adapter -> PS4 *works perfect with every PS4 game I tested Tankstick -> 5-in-1 adapter -> official Nintendo Gamecube adapter -> Wii U *works perfect with Super Smash Bros U (but only Smash Bros) Tankstick -> 5-in-1 adapter -> official Nintendo Gamecube adapter -> Switch *works perfect with Ultra Street Fighter II and everything else Tankstick -> Raspberry Pi 3 *working great so far (just got this set up yesterday) I have no reason to doubt the Tankstick will work perfectly with Dreamcast and actual Gamecube or Wii, just haven't tested them yet. So this amazing stick (+ adapters) has reinvigorated my whole game room setup. And until a month or so ago, I never even knew the X-Arcade sticks existed. I've owned sticks in the past, but since they were always console specific I never went out of my way to spend the money and deal with the clutter. I can't tell you how incredible it is to go back through my PS3 library and play the hell out of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and all of the other fighters I have. I picked up Raiden V this weekend and it's so much fun with the Tankstick. I'm also (finally) getting into arcade emulation with the RPi3 and got to play Centipede on it yesterday. I still have many, many, many hours of poking around to do there and the stick works fine. Now if only I could say the same for MAME lol.... I get that the X-Arcade isn't the absolute top of the line, but I'm not as hardcore as some of the big tymers that eat/sleep/breathe NeoGeo. All I can say is that for me, this stick is absolutely the best thing that's happen to me in gaming since I bought my Framemeister years ago. Absolutely love the hell out of it!

Ben Heck’s Todd Roger’s Dragster 5.51 record Part2
glazball replied to CapitanClassic's topic in Atari 2600
Ben is golden, it's Jace - the new owner of Twin Galaxies - who is being ridiculous with all this. I've read the (180+ page) dispute thread on their forums pertaining to Todd's Dragster score, and at every turn, Jace evades or says they are looking at confirming with an independent 3rd party expert. This was after Omnigamer, Thomas Jentzsch and others already had looked at the code and determined his score impossible (especially using Todd's supposed method for obtaining that time). While I have no doubt about Ben Heck's expertise, it is a bit unnecessary at this point. All this time, Todd could simply be streaming his Dragster attempts on Twitch, but isn't. It's also come out that Todd submitted a faked Activision certificate with the 5.51 time. In any case, I'll withhold further comment until I can watch this Pt. 2 video at home this evening. -

What a fucking joke. Ben Heck surely has better things to do?? Love Ben Heck but it's sad to see him get dragged into this -
Simply delicious! Nice work!

Love Kangaroo! I used birthday money to buy it as a kid. We all remember the wall of games at Toys R Us back then, and it was daunting to have to choose one. Still love the game to this day, but damn it is hell on your hands using the standard joystick. Miss that diagonal to jump and down to the bottom you go. Unforgiving but still fun. And as someone mentioned above, the "dots" are apples, not poo!
