Calgary / Alberta Atari Users Group?
davidcalgary29 replied to davidcalgary29's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks for the hint, although, if I push things, I fear I might come across as a deranged stalker. Perhaps I should just advertise in the local "buy & Sell" newspaper...hmm... -
My mistake. This appears to be an actual manufacturer's brand name! Again, Ugh.

Massive auction - not mine
davidcalgary29 replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
That's an awful lot of $$$ for some pretty common carts. Maybe if they had a copy of "Jurassic Park 2" in there... -
Crystal Castles 8-bit on ebay - 5 minutes to end
davidcalgary29 replied to t.skid's topic in Auction Central
Perhaps many people simply threw -- or gave -- their "Crystal Castles" cartridges away? I bought mine in South Florida at a garage sale about 5 years ago for $3, so I'd assume that there's many more to be found (even boxed). -
Calgary / Alberta Atari Users Group?

-Ahem- (clearing throat) Anyone? Anyone interested? -
Boy, I wish I would have seen this in time
davidcalgary29 replied to AtariLeaf's topic in Auction Central
You should check out the "Buy & Sell" newspaper online. I believe that someone's selling a Video Pinball unit in Saskatchewan for about $30 (CDN, approx $20 US). Good luck! -
Is anyone interested in selling me 8-bit games, either on disk or cartridge?
-
Can anyone tell me if "Gyruss" (or a passable clone) was ever developed for the ST line? It's always been one of my favourite games for the 8-bits!
-
I recently joined Calgary's only surviving 8-bit Users' Group (Commodore), and enjoyed (much to my amazement) a demonstration of a C-64 (in a tower case!) being used to run a non-graphical Internet web-browser. Has anyone "souped up" one of their 8-bits to do the same?

Atari laser printers (SLM804/SLM605)
davidcalgary29 replied to davidcalgary29's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I couldn't ask you to pay anything for it. After all, I did get it for free. I'd just ask you to pay for shipping from Calgary to wherever you are (which is going to be enough, in any case!) -
Help! Someone broke into my apartment and left me with 2 SLM605 printers and 1 SLM804. I really don't know anything about these beasts and, as I'm still waiting for my first ST in the mail, can't yet hook them up. I think they work perfectly, and am eager to use them. Can anyone tell me which type is the best of the bunch for word processing, etc.? Thanks!

Perhaps you should add "Boulderdash"...er..."Crystal Mines II" to the "best" list. It's a great little time-waster.

Does anyone have any spares to sell me?
-
Yes, but don't you think that it's the "dead ends" that makes computing history -- and, particularly, Atari history -- so interesting? The "AMY" chip wouldn't have saved the 8-bit line from extinction, but its convoluted history now makes for compelling reading. And isn't this why we love Atari? After all, if Atari Corp. had made all the "right" business decisions (and this assumes that superior technology = winning business formula), Atari would've ended up a large, modern, and utterly bland company that survived by recycling old technology instead of introducing (and taking a risk on) exciting new products. Sort of like Nintendo. Ugh.

Hmm. "Kaboom!"?

Could anyone give me a complete list of the Williams arcade games that were released (either by Williams or another company) for the 8-bits? Thanks!

Following a thread from the previous topic... Has anyone ever created a "home-made" Jaguar CD unit?
-
I really didn't mean to suggest that I was disappointed in the dark "theme" of "Doom" as much as I was in its very dark game environment. Yes, I do have my Jag hooked up a rather poor monitor, but I still find it difficult, at times, to negotiate around each level. Don't get me wrong -- I do enjoy "Doom", but I was still unpleasantly prepared for its "floaty" control and cluttered map given the fact that they were both so uniformally excellent in "3D". All points well taken, though!
-
I've noted that many existing reviews for "Wolfenstein 3D" were written in the context of the pending release of "Doom"...with many of those same reviewers giving "3D" lower marks for being "outdated". I've never seen a review comparing the two games side-by-side, though. Having now completed both games, I can't help but feel that "3D" is by far the superior game, and one that I'd go back to many times in the future. In contrast, the game environment in "Doom" was terribly oppressive (and dark!) and not really conducive to repeat visits. Any thoughts?

Buy-Rite Games - a good thing, yes or no?
davidcalgary29 replied to bigferret's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
One more "Buy-Rite" story: I tried ordering a Jaguar CD unit from them, but never did get a response to the (numerous) e-mails that I sent. I did, after a number of telephone calls, finally did get to speak to "the phone guy", who informed me that they did not have any units in stock, and that I should "keep trying on a daily basis, as new stock arrives periodically". I then turned my efforts elsewhere. I certainly doubt that they have the full extent of Jaguar / Atari soft- and hardware that they have listed on their web-site. -
1. Does anybody have a 3.5" 8-bit drive (modified XF551, or other) they'd like to sell? 2. Has anyone modified their own drives to the 3.5" format, and can they comment about the process? Thanks!

Thanks for all your help, guys!

Hi there! I'm thinking about ordering a Mega STE from Germany, and have been told that it will "work fine" in Canada. Could anyone comment on the potential problems that I might face using PAL equipment here? Would I require a PAL monitor, or would I be restricted to using European software on the system without a converter? Thanks!
