  1. I subscribed to both "ANALOG" and "Antic" when they existed, and regularly scoured the magazine racks for Atari User, "Hi Res", and my personal favourites, "ROM" and "Popular Computing". None of those were, of course, "retro gaming" magazines when they were published. What I really meant was that it would be nice if someone(group) published a magazine for 8-bitters [/i]today...along the lines of what "COMPUTE!" used to be like. :)

  2. Can anyone comment on the following games? I've heard that they're available from "B & C Computervisions", and I'm thinking about picking up a copy or two:

    - Tower Toppler

    -Xenophobe

    -Dark Chambers

In addition, can anyone tell me if any XL/XE cartridges were produced by Atari or another 3rd party vendor in the '90s? (not "pirated" versions of vapourware)

  3. Yes, of course. :)

I do wish that some enterprising individual(s) would get together and publish a magazine devoted to all 8-bits (with, of coure, type-ins). Surely the community of "retro" gamers would be large enough to support this type of enterprise!

  4. I myself find "Scrapyard Dog" to be extremely varied and complex.

I spent alot of hours playing this one when it first came out on the Lynx, and was continually surprised by the huge number of Easter Eggs and hidden bonuses scattered throughout each level.

There are, for instance, a few hidden shops on the higher levels which enable you to purchase as many lives as you want. This game demands careful exploration!

  5. I myself picked up a copy of Captain Beeble in the late '80s-- it's always been one of my favourites! If I remember correctly, it was published by a Canadian company (Inhome Software, based close to my own home town), and was produced around '83 or '84. I don't believe that it was too successful, and have never seen any other copies.

  6. "The Digital Centre", a retailer in Ontario, Canada, still has a few Lynx games for sale for the very-reasonable price of $4 CDN each (approx US $2.50). I ordered a bunch of games from them, and I'm happy to say that all but a few of them were new, unopened, and still in their original shrink-wrap.

  7. To anyone who may be interested:

I've just discovered that "The Digital Centre", a retailer in Ontario, Canada, has a limited number of Jaguar carts for the quite reasonable price of $15 Cdn (each). All carts are boxed and come complete with instructions and overlays (unless otherwise noted). Titles are as follows:

    1. Alien v. Predator

    2. Wolfenstein 3D

    3. Checkered Flag

    4. Cybermorph

    Good luck!
