  1. Same boat, different paddle here! I support worthwhile projects to do my bit to ensure that worthwhile projects continue to be developed for the system. I may play the Jag only once a month or so, but it'd be one of the last of my systems I'd part with given the fact that letting it go now would ensure the fact that I'd never play it again. If I had to start over again at these prices...I wouldn't.
  2. Well, you can always go to PRGE to experience that ambience. I frequented arcades for only one year (1984) when I was twelve, and PRGE reccreated that experience for me perfectly. Without the quarter-eating.
  3. Very nice! I've never heard of (or played) Run for it, so I'll definitely have to play that one -- it looks like fun.
  4. Pics, prices, and a post in the Buy and Sell Thread please!
  5. Yes. InHome imploded sometime in 1984. I found lots of boxed copies of both Captain Beeble and Baseball littering various computer stores in Toronto for years (I picked up my boxed copy of Beeble for about five bucks in 1987), but never saw or heard of Hard Hat Willy until reading this thread...which is strange, given the fact that it was a local company.
  6. Yes, you certainly can. You may well be limited to composite output, though, unless you can find an older model with a S-VIDEO port, or go with a video converter unit like the Brewing Academy's BoB. I bought both of my monitors/TVs at Wal-Mart -- they're just cheapo "Aevis" and "Coby" models -- and work fine with my vintage stuff, be it my A8s, Lynx (VGA upgrade), or Nintenputer. And as you're no doubt aware, you can neither play A8 light gun games on an LCD nor get those few games that use artifacting effects (Tower Toppler, etc.) to display properly on them.
  7. What about Push Around the World? That had some pretty impressive hi-colour displays, if I recall... Excellent game.
  8. Well...yes. I'm never a fan of collecting for collecting's sake on any system, but I was never able to score an original ACE80 cart, and it'd be fun to have. I'll certainly buy in if a run of these is actually done, but practical application will be limited. I barely use AtariWriter 80 with the XEP80 as it is.
  9. Has anyone ordered a replacement HDD from Best Electronics? They have them listed on their website for an attractive price, and I thought I'd try it out. I tried making backup copies of "Phantasie III" using the (one) stock floppy on my Mega STe (no UltraSatan yet!) and oh my god, the struggle was real.
  10. Two hundred and fifty bucks??! I mean, it was never a ten dollar title fifteen years ago, but wow...just wow. These prices are just insane now.
  11. I'd love to know when it was first cracked/ported (or re-ported) to the A8 from the 5200. I played it a LOT in the '80s, and had the first title screen in a game that I can remember that paid tribute to "Glenn the 5200 Man".
  12. I still haven't claimed that Klax is better than Tetris. Besides that, though, Klax isn't a tetromino (and I adore tetrominos), and I get a little tetchy when the two are mentioned in the same breath as if Klax is some type of poor-cousin gaming castoff. If anything, Klax is much more in the spirit of Columns (also a great game)...although I will say here that I think that Klax is better than Columns. More successful? No. More fun to play? Absolutely! I don't disagree, but a lot of us are in the same boat as Parish, and only came to play the Lynx extensively in its afterlife, so I'm not so sure that we're simply fanboying here by raving about S.T.U.N. Runner and Rampart. Perhaps there are a lot of enthusiasts here who have been playing the Lynx straight for thirty years, but I'm not one of them. I gave away my first Lynx in '93, having acquired about fifteen carts for the system, and only got to play the rest of the library a decade later when I was settled down enough (and employed enough) to take another look at the system. My point is, I think, that most of us who appreciate the Lynx do so even more after having the opportunity to have played everything that came after it. I started to play the Lynx again around the time that I got my PSP, and Lumines, which rekindled my interest in handheld gaming.
  13. There have been a number of recent threads on this topic, but I'll chime in with this again: the XEGS is much nicer for modding, has a cooler overall design, and you can use better keyboards with mods like TRANSKEY/II.
  14. Actually, never mind what I just posted. Most iconic sound of the 800 not generated by the internal speaker: the "Seagull" type-in programme in the owner's manual. First thing I ever typed in, and I was mesmerized by the seagull's cries and the sounds of the "waves" in the background. Cool stuff for an eleven year-old.
  15. Well, if we're going for iconic sfx and music in '80s games...
  16. For me, the CLOAD and CSAVE aural cues will forever be associated with the 800.
  17. I'm not going to judge. My recent Googling: "when did Val Kilmer get fat?"; "Barry Goldwater"; "Change In Heat Iowa City"; "CTV Covid Tracker".
  18. Ooh, 12 Bellavista Place appears to be a residence. I should write the occupants and ask them if they have any copies for sale!
