Windows vs. Mac - why the fighting
Videogamecollector123 replied to Tr3vor's topic in Modern Console Discussion
That's perfectly fine for the less than 1% of us that have the technical ability and knowledge to build our own computers. You and I both know that is not a reasonable solution for most people. Also, as Spiceware pointed out... you can't build laptops, which now account for over 50% of computers sold. ok laptops are impossible to build, but I do beleive there is a brand out there that is a lot easier to customize, I think the main problem with pre builts is consummer ignorance of people who don't have the paitence to do some research and learn just the basics on how to build one using the wide online community(go to an internet cafe if it's their first). -
Windows vs. Mac - why the fighting

I've tried macs and I don't really like them because of the limited amount of software that I know is availible for them, games mostly that don't run without bootcamp which doens't count because it turn the mac into a pc. I really hate Apples I'm a mac campaign because I feel that their representation of themselves is just a smug arrogant college student who buys anything that looks shiny. And to touch upon viruses on pc and fewer on the mac, macs have fewer viruses just because of how little the market share they truley hold no security system is full proof and any system will be hacked eventually, not to mention on reliablility I have a friend whos Mac has broken twice this year and he takes good care of it. I've been debating Mac vs. Windows for 16 years now and quite frankly it is tiring... people can use what they like, if you play games and can tolerate Windows that's up to you. I've been in IT for 12 years now working with thousands of PCs (IBM Compatibles? ) and I have yet to come across one that can touch the quality of any Mac I've used or owned. Apple has always opted for high end components, while PC competitors scrape the bottom of the barrel. I'm sorry your friend had a problem... that is certainly not the norm. For the most part Mac users get 5+ trouble free years out of their Mac's. Much better than the 2-3 years (if that) in my experience for PC's. You'll never catch Apple selling $300 under powered computers at discount retailers. I can't complain too much... I make a lot of money from my clients working on these pieces of crap. As for security, you don't honestly believe that Windows is equally secure as any *NIX system do you? I'm not saying that Mac OS X is 100% perfect, but I'll take my chances. Bottom line is, I've always been a Mac user because Windows is a hassle and I enjoy using Mac's. I never said Windows is perfect in security(I use kaspersky and it does a good job for security) or by itself I recognize each has it's weakneses, as for bad components though thats more a problem with the people who make pre built computers and not the os itself, if you build your own it will be much better. -

Maybe because OS 9 was released 3 years before OS X so while it's market share was declining there had already been viruses written for it That doesn't make sense - OS 9 had viruses for it within those 3 years, OS X is more popular and has been out for 8+ years. Where's the viruses??? There have been viruses for the Mac (http://www.viruslist.com/en/analysis?pubid=191968025) Just because you haven't had one doesn't mean they don't exsists, also haven't you heard of Ipod viruses? That may not be OS X but it's a failure on the apple security. Still Macs have less then 10% of the market share so all the big virus writers focus on the pc still because they can get more out of it. -

Ever try to build a laptop? The MacBook Pros have some of the longest run time per charge in the industry. Some netbooks can run longer, but I have one and Michael Dell is right. I was talking about desktops, but there are still cheaper laptops out there that you can just load linux onto. The charge for a laptop is important so I guesse mac wins there. -

true, but only insofar as PC = Personal Computer. The reality is when people say PC they mean a Windows computer. then why did OS 9 have viruses when it's market share was even less than OS X? Maybe because OS 9 was released 3 years before OS X so while it's market share was declining there had already been viruses written for it -

Well okay I'll give them that, but why would you buy a mac to run linux? It'd just be cheaper to build a pc and then load linux on. -

I prefer windows as it has much more software and hardware availible for it and unlike apple I don't percieve microsoft as a bunch of arogant pricks. I have a kid at my school who is a mac supporter and he thinks that Steve Jobs is the soul behind apple even though it was Steve Wozniaks programming skills that made apple succesful. He also believes that it's alright Steve Jobs failed when he made his own company and that the Woz ruined apple, arrogance at it's best -

So yeah, if you can make it similar to that I would definetly buy it as soon as I got the money and I'm sure a fair share of people on ebay would want one as well.
