  1. It's really hard to believe that 10 years ago my brand new 486SX-66 with a half gig HD was a very good system. Now I have no problem filling up my HD's with almost 2 tetrabytes of data.

      I built my first 486DX-2 66mhz back in 1993 ... or was it 1994.. dang, it has been a long time!

      I remember the 486 era very well. The machines often cost $1000+, and the trend was to build them yourself inside GIGANTIC beige towers that had enough 5.25" bays for every type of storage media you could imagine.

       

      Those DIYers, transplanted into 2015, would have found today's tablets and all-in-one computers terribly impersonal and constricting, and to an extent, I do too.

      My first was a 486DX-33. Beat your SX as I had to have the one with the built-in Maths Co-Processor :P Could overclock that bitch to 50Mhz as well.
