  1. Almost every console has been modified to run homebrew, so chances are someone ported an emulator. Even PS4 with an old firmware has been shown to run Linux and a gameboy emulator. Xbox One hasn't yet but it's just a matter of time.
  2. A viewer saw one of my videos on Gadgetz and asked if I knew any cheats. I didn't know of any, so I decided to use the Applewin emulator debugger for the first time ever and see if I could patch it myself. I actually cheated and used Cheat Engine to find the lives address, fortunately the Apple IIe memory address was just the last few digits of the PC memory address returned by Cheat Engine. Once I had the lives address, I used the emulator debugger to set a breakpoint on the lives address which led me to finding the code that accesses that address. I tried changing the lives DEC to a NOP but that only worked on an enhanced Apple IIe, for some reason it crashed on a regular Apple IIe. Instead, I ended up changing an LDX to INC (I'm an ASM noob, so I can't even say why I did that but it had the result I wanted). Vopper didn't have that issue and changing DEC to NOP worked fine on all Apple IIe compatible systems. Patched Apple IIe dsk image with unlimited lives for Gadgetz and Vopper: http://gtamp.com/misc/gadgetz-vopper-unlimited-lives.dsk Video of the Vopper debug/patch process: Gadgetz is actually a fun pixel perfect platforming game but there are so many precision jumps required that it seems like it would be impossible without unlimited lives.
  3. 3 years later... I made a quick video of this clone:
  4. Oops. I didn't mean to bump this. I wanted to post this on another site but I picked the wrong tab.
  5. The 3DO headset socket outputs ALL the console audio. The 360 headset socket is usually only used for chat. I'd only ever owned Goldstar 3DOs but that's just because I've never found a Panasonic 3DO in the wild. The power supply fan got loud on one of them but they both read discs fine. There's some misinformation going around that all Goldstar 3DOs stutter cutscenes on The Horde but I tried it and it worked fine.
  6. My biggest Nintendo blunder, I bought Starcraft 64 for $10 from a video store. I sold it on eBay in 2006 for $65 buy it now. I'm sure I checked past sales and it hadn't gone for over $65 at the time. In the condition mine was in, it now sells for over $700.
  7. I had a sticker with a picture of Mr T strangling a turkey and the speech bubble said "Atari 2600s aint for turkeys!". I stuck it to the side of a fridge (hundreds of 80's stickers actually) and when we finally got rid of the fridge, I didn't think to take a photo or cut the side off the fridge. If anyone has that image, I'd love to see it again.
  8. I'm one of the bidders but I already have the game, I just bid a low amount for fun. It will be interesting to see what this goes for, the prices have varied a lot in past sales. edit: It sold for $75.06, much lower than I was expecting.
  9. They are the same price because discs haven't gone away yet but there is no guarantee that games would get cheaper if there were no discs. I'm just going to do what Microsoft did and take back everything I said. I was wrong http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update Now they just need to remove the bundled Kinect and reduce the price to the same as the PS4 but no matter what they do, they have lost some fans this generation.
  10. I don't want to take them away from anyone but it's inevitable. Physical media has a relatively minor environmental impact but an impact nonetheless, a major impact on the space in my room and I'd rather select a game with my controller than hunt through my shelves and have to change discs. Steam sales, $0.99 smart phone games, XBLA games, GOG, Humble Bundle type deals and Minecraft. I'm sure some publishers will still be dicks. Physical media with no resale restrictions has lots of pros for the consumer and I understand the reluctance to let go. I was just posting my dislike for major retailers using extortion because they don't want to compete with digital. If physical media has so many pros that the consumer can't live without then retailers shouldn't be afraid of online games being cheaper.
  11. I'll be happier when retailers no longer sell games. They keep the price of digital games up by threatening not to stock games/consoles if the digital prices are lower than the physical copies. I've been collecting games for years (buying and selling) but online is the future, physical media is doomed.
  12. Why does eBay allow 87+ bid retractions in 6 months? That's obviously shady. They should set the limit to 5 times a year or less.
  13. LOL! Nicely done. I don't know if it will educate anyone but at least it provides some amusement.
  14. I tend to accellerate all the time, so didn't really need a third hand but the cable is long enough on that remote to run it next door (it's also better constructed than my Pedal cable that sometimes needs some jiggling to work, I'll have to put a new plug on it soon). I only have Turbo to test it out, maybe the other driving game requires more slow downs. I'm bad at Turbo whatever method I use.
  15. It may have been a case manufacturing defect but more likely to be an outside source. I'll never know. For the legs, Mr Potato head was my first thought and that gave me a laugh but then I looked at Mr Potato pictures and it doesn't seem to be it. Another picture of the mystery rattlers:
  16. Something was rattling around in one of my systems. I managed to shake one piece out through the expansion port but I had to open it to get the other part out. What toy are these legs from? This system also has some excess plastic or heat damage. I'm not sure what caused that. Have you seen other systems with damage like that?
  17. I was sick of pushing the pedal, I could have put a brick on it but I just happened to have a wired remote from a Beta VCR with the same plug. I can set the switch to Rec/Play for accelerating or Pause/Still to slow down I think a retro remote goes well with a retro system.
  18. From the description, it sounds like the seller just gave it the wrong title (picked the wrong name from the suggestions eBay gives). The game number is for the common Basketball.
  19. A bit more than that. PAL versions are worth more than NTSC. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 251194312667 $519 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 400295145459 $492
  20. Most SMS controllers that I've found just need a clean with alcohol/Methylated Spirits. I have had several SMS consoles that had faulty controller ports (some directions didn't work) but I know it wasn't the controllers since they worked fine on other systems. Fixing those consoles required more than cleaning.
  21. That 3 letter code also tripped me up at first. I was about to email them saying their CAPTCHA was broken but then I actually read the page. I didn't see the text on the registration page since I've joined so many forums that I just skip over that part now and it didn't stand out.
  22. It was just a simple cable chop and resolder (well it would have been simple if the cases had screws!). One of them didn't work when I got it (the cable looked fine from the outside). The other one worked but the cable was frayed at the base and eventually snapped off.
  23. Yeah don't try this at home kids or if you do, at least do a better job than that. I'll probably put them in some spare plastic cases I have lying around or just give them a funeral (before they give me one). The second one is at least mostly enclosed.
  24. I had to look up "rat rod". Not exactly my intention but rat rods do have some charm.
