  1. The only drawback for me is that I loose some of the nostalgia when playing on an LCD. My HD sets are too large and sharp for the low res graphics on these old Atari's. For this reason I primarily use a 20" crt for my retro gaming. When I was young I did most of my 2600 gaming in the basement on an old 19" vacuum tube Color TV. I guess I'll have to locate one of those to really get the nostalgia going. ;)

  2. Hello,

I'm looking to collect 7800 cart shells to build my Pokey Kong carts with and would like to buy any carts that you can spare. Doesn't matter if the electronics work or the labels are bad, I just need the shells. But they do need to be Atari brand 7800 carts.

PM me if you have some spare, non-functional or duplicate common carts you would like to sell.

    Thanks.

  3. Not to pile on, but it seems the only pest here is running on a Jay Miner 800, certainly not a C64.

You are absolutely welcome to do it.

But, please, when doing so, consider (at least) writing it appropriately: it is JayMiner-800, without any blank-spaces in-between, a hyphen, and the "JayMiner" section in italics.

    Enjoy!

    F.

I'm new to this hobby and curious about this Jay Miner-800. I'm familiar with the 800 and 800XL but not this machine you speak of. Was it a special version modified by Jay? Maybe it had extra memory or was overclocked? Sounds like a facinating machine. Is it rare? You should add it to Wikipedia so that us nubes can find some info on it.

    Thanks.

  4.

The guy has spent 10 years coding this thing. He has the source code.. What is a month or so (if even that long) of aditional work, moving some code around and recompiling to produce a version that would load into extended ram in stages?

    WOW

  5. SC, the way I see it is if you produced and sold it for $30.00,...

Your analysis matches almost exactly what I heard last year.

Once again, didn't do it for the money, don't want to have it stolen, but there is a figure I can't refuse.

If you don't want your work stolen, your in the wrong business. There has always been software piracy and it will not go away. This is an unfortunate fact. The only way to avoid it is to not produce software or never make it publicly available.

The thing you need to realize about this small 2600 software market is that your primary audience are collectors who will buy the game because they want to hold the physical cart in their hands, not just play it. The people who download the rom without paying for it are cheapskates who would have never bought it in the first place. The number of carts you sell is not going to be substantially affected by the availability of the rom file.

  6. Solidcorp has committed a horrible injustice. He has copied another persons game without getting permission, and now

he wants to profit$ from this.

I don't care how hard you tried to get the copyright holders permission Solidcorp, the fact remains that you DO NOT have permission to make or distribute this re-production.

Until you get the original copyright holders permission, this game cannot be sold in good conscience.

This is the crux of the problem for solidcorp. In my opinion, his best bet to get the money he so desires would be to sell to Atari to include in their next Flashback device. But they will not touch it with a ten foot pole until the property owner is identifed and a licensing deal is reached. I don't think he will get a collector to pony up a tenth of his asking price for what is essentially an illegal port.

  7. Thanks for starting this thread sdamon. Bob deserves some applause.

  8. Curt,

The complainers around here may be LOUD, but they are far out numbered by the level headed folks who are patiently waiting for you to finish this project. Please don't let them discourage you. You are doing great work and there are hundreds of people here who appreciate it. Sergio has already cost us Pacmanplus. Don't let him drive you off. He's just a troll.

  9. Hi everyone,

I'm planning to produce carts of my Donkey Kong sound hack, Pokey Kong. I'd like to know how much interest there is so I can plan how much material, (shells, pc boards, roms, labels) to buy. I'm planning to sell for $25 plus shipping for the cart only. I won't be able to accept orders or build carts until I can thoroughly play test in hardware with the Expansion Module. Hopefully Curt will start shipping the XM soon.

I've attached a version that will run in emulation if you want to try it out. Please let me know if you find any bugs. I've been testing in ProSystem1.3.

Please PM me or respond to this thread if you are interested.

    Thanks!

  10. well

after 2 years he answered me last week because i posted here,

    never heard of him again

    So what did he say?

On second thought, I'd rather not see this thread degenerate with a bunch of posts from you.

  11. You know, I wasn't going to reply to a troll like yourself, but seeing as the only person who has my back is Underball, I have to call you out on your lies. Your post to me was 'get a life' and I fell for the trap by responding and calling you an asshole. I should have realized that trolls like you are looking for a response. Anyone who actually knows me here knows I don't go around insulting people for no reason.

You know what? I'm done here at AA. Put me on Mod preview, or ban me. I don't give a shit anymore.

Thanks, Underball. You are one of the true friends I had here.

Please don't let that douche get you down Bob. There are many people here, including myself, who greatly appreciate all the work you do for the Atari community.

  12. any chance of a 5200 conversion of this great adaptation for the ultimate sd cart on the 5200?

i think its doable with all that extra memory icon_lust.gif

Don't think it would be a straightforward port - interested on what Steven Tucker might think about that though: What is a good way to port a full 8Mbit maxflash cart to the ultimate sd cart? After more than 10 years on the XL/XE version, I'm kinda looking to get away from it though

10 years isn't so long. Look how long Duke Nukem Forever took. :)

  13. Jr. Pac,

I hope you don't get discouraged by the rude comments that some of the members are making. People tend to forget what it's like to be young and inexperienced. I personally think it is cool that you are interested in a system that is 3x your age. Your hack is a bit simple though, which is probably why some people are dissing it, but it is a good first step. Just not enough new content to get too much interest in buying a cart.

I'd suggest you take the next step and start learning to program. I got started on my Atari 400 back in the day by picking up a few books on BASIC and playing around with type in games. You might want to give Batari Basic a try since you seem to be interested in the 2600.

Good luck and keep having fun. That's what this hobby is all about.

  14. it was built from the ground up. it wasn't someone else's code.

Ms. Pac-Man on that ganme is the original, just with some slight mods. And also, how could there be a Pac-Man arcade hack availible in the store? And Pesco turned into Hack-Em?

It doesn't matter if it's coded from scratch or not. You would need permission from the copyright holder if you use copyrighted titles and images. We often get away with it though because this is such an old platform and it doesn't draw too much interest from the copyright holders. That isn't always the case though, so it's best to keep a low profile.

  15. Anyone have some screenshots? I'm curious what the 2600 style graphical "enhancements" look like!

It was mostly an animation change so it wont show up in a screen shot.

    1) The monster/ghost eyes rotate around in a cicle regardless of what direction they are heading.

    2) Pac only faces left or right, even when going up/down

    3) Pac's mouth is always chomping, even when stationary

    4) Pac has a dot for an eye.

If you havn't tried it in emulation you really should. I ripped the sound code directly from the 2600 rom so it sounds exactly like the 2600 version.

  16. Guys, please don't advertise your hacks in my hack page. Thanks for the suggestion, Darryl, but the 2600 Ms. Pac-Man's ghosts only have one sprite that gets mirrored, and back to normal, and then mirrored for the ghost eyes effect. I actually tried doing that in the beginning of this hack, but I can't do it, unfortunatly, since there is only one sprite.

I was just responding to someone elses joke. I appologize for "advertising" my JOKE hack in YOUR thread.
