Best 8-bit Atari disk drive? 810, 1050, XF551
tep392 replied to ACML's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yep, I ordered my 810 Happy Enhancement from B&C. NOS board, floppy, manual and warranty card. -
Cool. I can implement the speed fixes in the conversion. Darn. I spent a lot of time disassembling when it's already been done. Thanks Bob!

Well it's good that you are at least getting a trace on the screen. That would isolate the problem to the vertical circuit. Since both channels are doing the same thing, it would seem to be after the switching circuit. Unless there is some obvious mechanical defect you can spot, I think your going to be getting some practice on your schematic reading skills. Good luck!

Here is the comment from Pac-man Dossier. I've also included a screenshot of me sitting in a safe spot. You have to be pointing up and it took me a few tries before it worked. I think the monsters have to be in certain area's of the screen so that they go into the right pattern. Of course the pause key is easier.

Try this out. pacman5200conv.xex

Your welcome. Your right that this is unfixed. I've made no changes to game or sound. After this has been tested enough to be sure there isn't any lingering bugs, I'll post a version with improved munch sound and fixed monster blue time bug. I'll also post the source code so people can make their own hacks if they want to.

Here's are .bin and .car files. Let me know if you find any bugs. pacman5200conv.zip

Nice work! Syncalc shows 245k available on my 800 with Axlon RAM card.

Thank you! I really love that 800.

An Axlon type board has been design but you would have to order the parts and build it. I've built a few. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/256464-designing-an-axlon-compatible-board/?hl=+axlon

Designing an Axlon compatible board
tep392 replied to retrocanada76's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I've posted a demo video on youtube. -
That's an interesting glitch. It might be related to the monster changing form scared to normal mode as it's exiting the pen. I figured out the bug that causes the monsters to never exit scared mode and know how to fix it. The bug causes the monsters to flash white 128 times and then stay white. They never exit scared mode after that. I also learned that the game resets to level 1 after you finish level 256.
-
I can do one that is completely original and a fixed version.
-
Is there a bug where the ghost stick in "scared" mode? I was just rolling thru the screens using a cheat, and at after reaching one of the higher levels, they stay blue until eaten. edit: Just checked again, and it first happens on the 5th key screen. The 6th key is ok but it returns from the 7th on. edit2: I get it now. Those are the levels that should have zero blue time. They apparently messed up the implementation. At least they tried.

I've changed the easter egg message already.
-
I successfully completed the first step of relocating the code to $8000-$BFFF, the 400/800 cart space. I fixed the dot eating sound as well. Still running in 5200 mode. Next step is to make all the mods for the 400/800.
-
If the 5200 conversion doesn't exist or has been lost, I'll volunteer to do the conversion. I think a 16k car image would be a good format for it.
-
I have used it daisy chained with an 810 drive. I set the floppy drive as drive 2 and make sure to leave that slot open when defining the drive slots for the SDrive. I can copy files back and forth between the floppy drive and the SDrive.

Designing an Axlon compatible board
tep392 replied to retrocanada76's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Here's a copy of Warpspeed DOS XL 2.42 with some drivers I've updated to support the 512K Axlon clone and the RAMSCAN memory test program which I have also updated for the 512K board. DOSXL242AX512.ATR edit: These are the custom files I added. WSAXL256.COM - Creates single ramdrive, D4: with 931 DD sectors. Uses banks $01-$0F WSAXL512.COM - Creates two ramdrive's, D3: and D4: with 931 DD sector each. Uses banks $01-$0F and $11-$1F. Bank $10 is available for other uses. SCAN512.COM - This is the Axlon RAM test program modified to test 512K. -
Designing an Axlon compatible board
tep392 replied to retrocanada76's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I just finished building retrocanada76's RAM board design and it seems to be working as intended. I've modified the Axlon driver that came with Warpspeed DOS XL to support the full 512k. It creates 2 ramdrives D3: and D4: with a capacity of 242K each. Here's some photo's. He mentioned that there was an error in the board layout and the reset pin of the 74LS273 needed to be connected to 5V. I decided to use a simple RC circuit to hold the pin low long enough for the power to stabilize before coming out of reset. This insures the board will start at bank 0 on power-up. Here's a few photo's. -

Yes, not even close to it. The only way to make it work would be to start boxes for other 400/800 games as well. -
