Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season!
disjaukifa replied to disjaukifa's topic in batari Basic
Thanks for the feedback Byte Knight! I'm glad you had fun playing it! Honestly its not my first effort, but I would say its the first game I've finished and have everything done it. My first game which I thinking about re visiting and trying to finish was called Earth Invaders though I'm pretty sure I'm going to end calling it "Not another space shooter" which I didn't get far one at all, then my second was Atomic Meltdown which I just started writing the game from scratch all of over again and that one I plan on finishing sometime next year it looks like. My third game idea is a game called Space Debris (Working Title name) that I want to finish as well but never finished. -
Hey Guys, I've done a bunch of reading here on this form in regards to homebrew games and where/how they should be listed in the threads. Here is my thoughts: Have a section called Homebrew similar to the Hacks section on the 2600 page. This would have all the known homebrew games that are considered complete in terms of programming. I would keep out WIP, however when you click on the Author's name, if they want their WIPs listed it should be on the page about the Author. In the rarity guide itself only list the homebrew games that were released onto a cartridge made available for people to get WITH the author's permission. I'll explain that, I'm sure there are some homebrew games that were never released on a cartridge with the author's permission but were made onto a cartridge. However, if a programmer got anyone else to make the cartridges for them and then released it themselves, that would be on the list. Great examples are the games available in the AtariAge store. In the section called Homebrew have a search list that would divide the games by those that were released on cartridges and those that weren't. Also if possible it would be nice to be able to sort the list by the language the game was programmed in for example Assembly vs Batari Basic. I think label variations should NOT be separate entries, but have a note on the game page of the different available labels variations. Games that had the code change to update the game or make improvements should be noted, an example that comes to mind is Skeleton and Skeleton +. In cases where its possible, having the links to the development thread and the original sale thread if possible would be nice as well. Thoughts? Suggestions

Hey Guys, I've deleted the poll, because apparently I don't know how to ask questions . Actually the reason I deleted the poll was Rick Weis came up with a fantastic idea, he asked if I could sign the back-side of the cartridge. So here is what I'm going to do: The cartridge will be numbered on the top label, either on the right or left, thinking right at the moment If the buyer wants the cartridge autographed, please let me know and I will autograph it and it will be on the back side of the cartridge. I will send a PM to everyone tomorrow asking what there preferences are on weither or not they want their cartridges autographed or not. If you want to respond to this thread or send me a PM before hand with your preference that works as well! Thanks guys!

Hey Guys, I won a huge auction for "Atari Games" on ebay thinking I was going to get a bunch of junk cartridges that I wouldn't care about because the seller didn't post what games were included and the photo looked like it was taken from a cellphone. Hey Guys, I in the process of ordering another 25 PCBs, EPROMs and Labels so there is plenty of cartridges left for those who want to get some. Also it seems my poll might have disappeared, but its seems like the majority of people wanted the cartridges numbers and autographed which I am more than happy to do. Where do you think it would be a good place to numbered and autographed the cartridges? Thanks Disjaukifa

Hey Guys, First I want to thank ya'll for the responses and PMs, you guys are awesome. At this point in time the first batch of Candy Catchers is full, however if I can get 4 more people on the order list for batch two, I'll go ahead and order the parts today/tomorrow and try to release batch 2 at the same time as the first batch. Please note, if you have sent me payment, and I have not marked you as Paid on the list in the first post, please let me know and I'll update it asap! If you have any questions please feel free to ask! Also I've added pole to the beginning of the thread, if you could answer it that would be extremely helpful! Thanks again!

Hey Guys, I think I have answered everyone's PMs, if not please send me another one and I will get back with you asap! I had to make one minor tweak to the game that I noticed tonight in testing, it seemed I had a bug with controlling which side of the screen the robot appeared on, on my hardware at least it was almost always the right side. I've put in a fix for this and now I think the game is completely done. I'm down to 14 bytes left. To give you an idea of how little space that is, I had 4096 bytes (aka 4 kilobytes) to program this game in and I've gotten it done with only 14 bytes to spare! I've posted the new binary in my first post! Feel free to download it and try it out! Thanks Disjaukifa

Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season!

Hey Guys, I think I fixed the final bug in the game. I noticed that the robot was always coming from the right side of the screen and only about 3 times in 3 hours of testing did the robot from left side of screen. Well I found where my logic was bad and fixed it. I'm down to 14 bytes left!!! I think is the final build of the game as well. At this point I really have no space left for anything else! Let me know what you think! Candy_Catcher_RC2.a26 Thanks -
Kerzreb for the Atari 2600 (My Berzerk Hack)

Dude that awesome!!! Hahaha that totally rocks! Thanks for the mock up! I love it! -
If he still has the original source code that would be amazing! Its got to be neat as a programmer to see something you program come to light and get public knowledge and interest behind it! Looking forward to hearing further updates!

Hey Guys, I decided to see if I could design, program and release an Atari 2600 game before halloween that had a halloween theme to it. The game is called Candy Catcher. The game is going to have two versions release, a text label cartridge which will be a limited numbered release that will cost $20 shipped in the US. This release is now soldout. A cartridge with manual and box which is going to cost $35 shipped in the US. This version is not numbered or limited, the list below for 50 is the amount of materials I have at the moment. If there is enough interest, more can be ordered! After the first 50 CIB version sells out that is going to be all for a while. I'll start a wait list but I want to get all of the orders that have been requested finished and processed first. This game has gotten a much larger and wonderful reception than I thought would happen which I'm eternally grateful for! I'm single person doing this by myself and honestly I'm going to need a little break. Please note there is going to be a delay on shipping the Cartridge, Manual and Box release as I do not have any of that stuff made yet. The game was programmed in batari basic and is only 4k. The graphics are a tribute to Berzerk, my personal favorite Atari 2600 game. I started game design on September 27th and started programming the game on September 28th and finished the game on October 9, 13 days from original idea to completion. For more information about the game please check out my thread which I documented its short development life: Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season! And here are some screenshots of the game being played: Finally here is the current release candidate build. Note: You have permission to use this program with emulators and on a real Atari using a Harmony cartridge or similar device. Please do not include any version of this program in collections and please don't put it on cartridge without first getting my permission. I want to also thank DJT for help with the limited edition label design, he and I IMed each other for a couple hours one day with various designs for the labels! The CIB release is going to be delayed on being release because of time to get the boxes created and supplies for the cartridges, tentatively now it looks like it will be 3 ~ 4 weeks. I want to thank Brian O. for what will be the standard label and box design. The numbers are going to start at #2 because I'm keeping #1 for myself. Its been a life long dream to design, program and release a video game for a real console, so this cart is going to be mine as its one of my life dreams I'm getting to check off! Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season!
disjaukifa replied to disjaukifa's topic in batari Basic
Hey Guys, I'm calling this my Release Candidate 1 build of Candy Catchers. I finally got the incremental speed working however it used just about all the space I had left on the rom to do so and because I could only increase the speed in certain amounts, I had to changed what the difficulty settings implied. Difficulty B Easy The frequency at which the robot appears on the screen is fixed and does not change. The first 3 times you smash the robot, the robots speed will increase Difficulty A Pro Both the frequency and the speed of the robot will increase for the first 3 times you smash the robot Here is the latest build! Let me know what you think and if you find any horrible bugs please let me know! I'll be playing it alot of the next few days to make sure I haven't missed any glitches. Candy_Catcher_RC1.a26 -
Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season!
disjaukifa replied to disjaukifa's topic in batari Basic
I'm glad you approve!!! And that is an impressive score! I'm working on the final piece of the game now, in both games the speed of the robot will crease after you smash the robot, also the frequency at which the robot appears will increase as well. I'll post the RC (Release Candidate) Binary sometime this afternoon/evening! Thanks! -
I had an Apple II very similar to that when I was a kid, that was actually my first computer, I spent a ton of hours in front of that thing, I loved it!

Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season!
disjaukifa replied to disjaukifa's topic in batari Basic
Hey Guys Its just after 1am here but here is another update. Per the above comment from Random (which after doing a lot of testing I have to agree with) I've made it so that each different type of candy can only have a specific set of colors. This means no two pieces of candy will have the same colors and I've also made so that the candy's colors are all bright and easier to see as well. I'm down to just 159 bytes of space left. The only thing I would like to get implement is a speed increase and I have a solution that will work and will be simple, however I'm too tired to try to do it right now. I'll work on it tomorrow! Candy_Catcher_10092011a.a26 Thanks! -
Candy Catcher (2600) a small game for the Halloween season!
disjaukifa replied to disjaukifa's topic in batari Basic
Hey Guys, Here is what I've gotten done tonight so far: Score stays on the screen to a new game is actually started Its easier to change the game difficultly when the game has not started (Before you had to do it before the game started or once the game ended) Depending on the game difficulty the score will be a different color Testing out removing all the candy sprites when a game has ended ( I'm working on this one now) Working on make it so that every time you land on a robot, the robots speed increases slightly, so even though you get 15 points for smashing the robot, the next time the robot appears on the screen it will be going faster than before (Still not done yet) Minor updates and tweaks. Added the new font for the score curtsey of Impaler_26 I've made it so easy to know what game difficulty you are playing now. Purple is Difficulty B and Red is Difficulty A. Here are a couple of screen shots of what has been done. Also here is the updated game label as well: Here is the latest binary as well: Candy_Catcher_10082011.bin I'm actually still working on it at the moment, so if I get anything else updated and working, I'll post it asap! Thanks -
I'm impressed . . . and honored that you decided to kind of base it on the game I'm working on at the moment! Could you go more in-depth on how you disabled certain features in bB because I'm kind of under a space crunch at the moment and getting all the room I can get would be nice Never-mind I found out how to do it here Default Includes Going to be doing that now!!!
