Yeah I know the labels not original and for some of the more rare games that makes sense to preserver it as best as you but I as the same time like everything looking nice and new. See I agree with you on this as well. Here is what makes me made, I went to a flee market this morning and got Yar's Revenge and Dig Dug for 2 bucks because the labels were in ok shape, the guy had some in really nice shape and wanted 12.99 for Yar's Revenge and 14.99 for the Dig Dug. I guess the label doesn't add all that much value to me as much as the game it self which which would be the PCB with the PROM chip on it. I am thinking about restoring some of my games so they look better. I know it won't be "Original" but that is what is a restoration is suppose to do, take something that is not in good shape a make it better. Could you imagine if classic cars didn't have the same value unless it was the "original" paint job. I can guarantee you people would repaint a classic to improve the shape on the car. -Disjaukifa

We don't quite have all of the code together for this just yet. It would not act as 64k-4096k of contiguous code, however, you would need special functions to use and swap in the data. It should be possible to use a nominal size of 32k or another scheme up to 32k for your normal game data, but there could be an extra 4k bank for the extended data. The 4k bank would start out blank. It could act like a normal bank except its contents could be swapped with 4k of data from the EEPROM using a special function. I am not sure how long it would take to swap a 4k block of data from the EEPROM, but I'm pretty sure it would not be fast enough to happen without blanking the screen for a few frames, so it would have to occur at a level transition or something. I could examine some of our existing code and estimate how fast it could be. Ok that makes sense. Yeah it makes sense for level loading, that would work really well. I look forward to your code examples when you get around to releasing them!!! Thanks Disjaukifa

We can buy Atari 2600 games at Toys 'R' Us?
disjaukifa replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
I'm not a box collector per se (I have way more loose carts then boxed), but I still have my original gate fold 01 combat box, cart and manual All I have are loose cartridges, I respect the people that collect the boxes as they are neat, but all I ever get are loose carts and thats all I'm really interested it. If I ever gets boxes or manuals I am going to just sell them here on AA. -Disjaukifa -
Hey Guys, I want to know what you think. I have a lot of games nothing better than a 3 on the Rarity Guide here however a lot of them are dirty, nasty, etc. What is ya'lls thought on taking off the Labels, opening the carts, cleaning everything really well and then print a new label and put it on the cartridge. I consider this a restoration of the games, because you can clean the cartridges really well and put nice labels on them so they look like new. What are ya'lls thoughts about this??? Thanks Disjaukifa

I totally agree. Its why I like the Marketplace here. You can do great deals with good members. Also retro game expos are a good place to do business. -Disjaukifa -
I agree with batari 100% on this, its sad that you have to do that batari, but again I think its necessary. Thanks again for all the hard work you guys put into the Harmony/Melody!!! Question about the Melody and I guess the Atari 2600 in general, since you have bank switching would it be theoretically possible to have a 64k or even a 128k game??? I know that is an absurd amount of bank switching but still I have been wondering if it were possible. Thanks -Disjaukifa It depends. The Melody has 32k of ROM and 8k of RAM, so by itself it can support up to 32k directly and immediately. If you add a serial EEPROM to the board, you can expand that ROM to as much as 4 MB. Serial EEPROMs cost anywhere from about 50 cents to a few dollars. The game can fully use that 4 MB but not directly and immediately, so it could be used to store level data, or code that is copied at the beginning of a new level or something. If you want to develop a game using the EEPROM on a Harmony and then sell on a Melody cart you can. The Harmony has a 512k EEPROM. A 512k EEPROM would add less than a dollar to the cost of the Melody board so it's totally feasible to create such a game (and I have plans to do just that eventually.) See I was thinking about making a MASSIVE game with a ton a levels, the code for it is not all that difficult, but I wanted to have like 60ish levels, just something massive!!! I'm glad to know the Harmony/Melody can handle it. One more question Batari. I know you can do set romsize 2k ~ 32k would you just do like set romsize 64k ~ 4096K??? Thanks Batari!!! -Disjaukifa

Sounds like they are trying to compete with GameStop and stores like it. I don't think they will succeed. -Disjaukifa -

Hahahah I have to totally agree with that statement, I wouldn't have played it if it weren't for this HSC, but I have to admit the game is more fun because of the HSC because we are competing against each other!!! -Disjaukifa

Ah yes. The old wait ten days and hope it goes your way and he doesn't reply waiting period. Let's hope it goes your way. he responded straight away with some lame claim... so now it's up to ebay... What was his claim? After he last reply I'm curious to know what he came up with. Here the thing the auction was for . . . I forgot what it was in box and I presume there was a picture of the box and everything. He paid for what was in that listing and then got it in worst condition. I think Paypal will side with him because he did not receive the item in the condition he paid for. -Disjaukifa

Hi Disjaukifa, I am using z26, on my PC with Windows XP. Just tried out the latest build of your game. It has a lot of potential! Now for the bad news, LOL: I loaded up z26 and ran your game and chose the 1 player game. Everything seems to work fine up until I died and saw the explosion screen. After it asks "play again?" I pushed the fire button, but then it jumped to the 2 player game! Player 2 died, then it jumps to a 1 player game again, but with the flashing green/red block on the playfield! After another death, both players were on the screen again, and the words "GAME OVER" were still on the screen! I died again. This time when I started again it goes directly to the explosion screen! After all this. I pushed the fire button again for a new game, but z26 crashed, and I was back to my Windows desktop with a "JAM" error message, or something. I reopened the game to try and repeat this and got the same results, and again, the "JAM" error at the end. I actually did this 3 times, the 1st time through, after it said "play again?" my computer shut down and rebooted! LOL! Though I haven't been able to repeat this, so I don't think your game did this.. So anyway, seems like you have some holes in your code or something, causing it to jump to different game modes at the end of your "game over" loop! Other than that, I like the concept and play potential of this game. Hey Gateway, I was playing with it this morning and I noticed the ending error on it. I have a small code problem when I go to reset the game, because I am not really reseting and it seems to not clear out all the variables even I do so. I can't test it on z26 as I am using a Mac. Thank you for you detailed review of what is happening, I am looking into right now and hope to have a more stable binary in an hour or two. Thanks Disjaukifa

$200 is very high. You can usually pick one up for $20-$25 if you're patient. However, I am hooked on my FB2 stick for gameplay. I get faster responce times with it than the CX-10s. The springs in the CX-10s yield a slight delay (IMO) whereas the FB2 sticks are precise and quick. Yeah all I have right now is a CX-40 and a Wico which I really don't like at all. I have 2 TAC-2s and a Starfighter joysticks made by Suncom coming in and everyone seems to think they are good joysticks. I look forward to getting them and trying them out. I'm going to keep my eye out for a cheap flashback, I don't really like it because its not real in my book, ie doesn't play cartridges, but I definitely see why people like it!!! -Disjaukifa
