I've NEVER seen an Atari game at a thrift or garage sale
chriswhit replied to Despina83's topic in Atari 2600
Here in Maine there are lots of flee markets loaded with Atari games cheap. There are a few Video game stores that still sell them to. There also in the Uncle Henry's a lot which is where I've got some of my best finds though you have to buy a whole lot of stuff. -
I dug out my 7800 after modding my supercharger the other day and to my surprise it fired right up after sitting since 1989. at first all was well. Today I popped ms packman in (the 7800 version). It worked ok till I got a call and let it run the demo screen for about 10 minutes. I pressed the fire button to start a game and noticed that it started on level 8 and the stick wouldn't respond. after I died due to no stick function the controller worked normal till i died again, and on the next life no stick function again. I decided to shut it down and fire it back up to see if it did anything different. Everything was normal after that till I went to the bathroom with the demo screen running. Then the same thing all over again. I have a custom arcade stick I built because I don't have any real 7800 controllers. Could it be the controller or is there a problem with my console? I haven't cleaned the system since new but other than that issue it works great. Ant info would be great as I don't dare to run anything rare in it out of fear it may damage something. thanks

I wanted to apologize for the misunderstanding. I ordered my parts on October 1st and I'm only building me two and my neighbor two just for the price of the parts as he is my best friend. I should have been more clear on that. I've never had a 7800 stick that worked right and neither has my friend. I have my stick up and running as of today. It was fun with no schematic or 7800 controller to go by. Again I apologize for the misunderstanding. From now on I'll just start a new thread when mentioning that I have a project going on instead of assuming the two topics go well together. hope theres no hard feelings it wasn't my intension.

Does it have two separate fire buttons? If so, it should work! yes but there are no resistors and the pin out seems to be a little different

My 500 xj controller works good on my 2600 and I was wondering if it could be converted with a 7800 wire and resisters to work on the 7800?

I'm making some for my 7800 and a few for my friends to using this stick http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9182 using arcade buttons to. My supplies should be here tomorrow. cant wait. I need Ideas for a case though. You do realize that is a 4-way stick right? That means you won't be able to properly play any games that need an 8 way, which include many many very good games. That being said, old 4-way arcade games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong will play better than with an 8-way. I am building myself some 8-way and some 4-way sticks. That way I can play everything the best way possible. If you are looking for one stick to play all games, you definitely need to go 8-way. 4-way will not do. There is a good reason that every console stick is an 8-way. thanks for the info I'll find another stick

I was wondering what size resistor you used to get it to work on your 7800? I just looked and mine is 10k. My 7800 is the first style so it should run in the system right? I used your post as a guide to mod it as I couldn't find the 7432 chip to do it the other way. I also never tried the sc in my 7800 till the mod was done. the post above is mine to answering your questions. Thanks for all the help

The screen is blue when booting up on a 2600 but on the 7800 it fires up but just says rewind tape while playing a bin file

My 7800 appears to be a style 1. Maybe the mod I used is not 7800 compatible. I know I have 120 2600 games that all work fine in it.

I have a self modded supercharger using switching diodes and a resistor instead of the chip. I noticed it doesn't work in ether mode on my 7800 but works flawlessly in both modes on my 2600. I'm using cuttle cart playbin to run games off my computer. Is there something I can do to make it work in my 7800? Maybe I need a different program? do they normally work with a 7800?
