CJ7, '85. The second to last year of 'good' Jeep before they sold out to GM and the Yuppie Jeep got created. It's a Laredo (or at least I believe so, the VIN is incredibly weird and lookups don't match the registry but the screaming yellow paint under my black Rhino coating says LAREDO based on what I know), AMC 4.2L I6. Dana 300 and a Borg Warner T5 (blech). 

Ah, nice.  Never was much of a fan of the YJ, but am basically OK with the TJ.  Past that...  Nope.

At least T5 to AX5/15 swaps are doable.  And hey, it's not the Peugeot BA10/5 - great gearbox with nice feel, and I've had a couple of 505s with it.  But in the XJ...  Bad idea, since it was only rated about 5lb./ft. above the 4.0's peak torque output.  That was not a recipe for longevity (and the internal clutch slave cylinder can eat a bowl of cold bungholes).

Yep! On the long term project list is dumping the 258 and putting a Crate 350 in it. If I do that the T5 goes and an AX-15 goes in, probably with a better transfer case and new axles.
