  1. That's what threw me off first, too, but I'm thinking it's like horseboy said: the copyright is for the case itself rather than this particular iteration of it.
  2. Found your problem right there. Sounds like a short in the wire, though. Good luck, it's got to be really tough to work on wiring in one of those without actually destroying it. You can't work on the 'power' part without hurting the 'glove' part!
  3. Looking very forward to seeing how this turns out! A GUI would push the limits of the system to the very max and would make lots of leaps & bounds improvements that would be astonishing to see. Modifying existing code for a loader for binary files would be the easiest part of the plan, I would think. It would be really cool to just click on those ROMs and have some gaming goodness!
  4. Some of the later-model Saturns were actually turning out to be pretty good, in their own right. I just think that they took too long to get to the point where they weren't as you said "cheap derivatives", which is what the market deemed them. But that's beside the point. You have to remember that that the auto industry has really been fraught with an anti-technological sentiment for generations -- big business is inimical to technology to a certain point. Which is what we see in the computer industry of the time, I think. Technology and the free market are oftentimes at airs with each other -- the best technology simply does not win the battle, because user friendliness, reliability, and other factors come into play. As save2600 said, that has a lot to do with Amiga's downfall -- too much R&D on a tech side and not enough marketing savvy. A lot of the time the BEST product from every standpoint just does not win the battle -- Amiga is a perfect example, did everything better than the competition in almost every way, but still couldn't keep afloat vs. the PC market, which couldn't do anything as good but was more "approachable" and had the Microsoft marketing machine behind it.
  5. Well, I think I've finally made up my mind on the 'new console' debacle. This is almost exactly what Mirage said with a bit more generalization: Modern video game consoles are single-use devices unless you "hack" or modify them in some way, shape, or form. Their single intended use is pop in a video game and play said game. You won't be doing any work on them, you won't be making spreadsheets, you won't be typing reports, etc. etc. One single design purpose. Computers, however, are multi-function devices, even if their primary use is to play video games (for example the A8 computers and the C64). Even though the primary userbase may be the video game circle, video games were not the SOLE design purpose of the devices. They are intended to be used in businesses, for typing, calculating, etc. I think the simple design intent statement is enough to segregate the modern consoles from what I intend to say when I talk about computers from that era. Cell phones? Sure, those could be included. Those are multi-function devices. I'd even include modified consoles like running Linux on an Xbox, but I want to clarify that no modification should be necessary in my definition. Basically with a clearer definition it makes the questions simpler. By computer I mean a designed multi-functional device that may or may not be primarily used as a video game system. (Of course I'm not going to buy it if I can't play games on it, but that's my user decision and certainly not a DESIGN decision) What company would all of you liked to have seen continue in the computer market (if you say Atari you got some 'splainin to do because that's the obvious choice)? Why would you have liked it? How do you think it would have improved more? Personally I would have liked to see the Amigas continue. Their audio/visual capabilities just seemed so much further ahead of anyone else, and I think we would have seen the capabilities in animation and design further a lot sooner than we did with the PC/Mac standard. If the Amiga wouldn't have failed I don't think Apple would have taken the crown for imaging/video.
  6. Well, like I said, 99.99%. I'm still open to other offers, actually. He hasn't gotten back to me. I "reserve" the right to take other offers, but I will say that there's a pretty good probability I'll take save2600 up on it when he gets back to me. But offer away, maybe you make a good enough offer!
  7. ....so maybe I got something that belongs in a museum or someone's million-dollar collection? :o :o Don't I wish.
  8. Fixed. OH GOD! I just noticed on Travelocity under the plane ticket auctions someone ended an auction to near my hometown early! OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD EDIT: I think I'll be okay. I just went onto gunbroker.com and found an auction for a Glock .45 with a bid of $99. I e-mailed the seller and told him I'd give him $50 and my frozen pizza if he would end the auction and ship it to me before the flight comes in.
  9. No, the name Micro Case was probably registered in 1975. Then when the 400 came out they made a custom case for it. So exactly what I said in different words? This and the now-framed 520ST design schematics I found in the last box shipped to me has really got me thinking the next thing I buy will probably end up not working and will explode because I've pressed my luck so much!
  10. So maybe 'the micro case' was the style of suitcase that was made in 1975 and someone had this custom made from the company for an Atari 400 computer sometime in between 1975 and now....nifty!
  11. At the top they say 'as low as $14.95' yet the lowest priced game is $14.99! Four cent difference! Highway robbery! No wonder Atari crashed.
  12. If it's legitimate, that is. I don't think it is. Something tells me it's fake!...unless you're faking your age too
  13. I couldn't even figure out what the heck was going on in that video!
  14. I keep lucking out with the Goodwill purchases. Today I got my hands on an Atari 400 bundle. This makes my Atari 8bit line complete except for 800Xl,600Xl, & 65XE. I have the 400, 800, 1200XL & 130XE! Nice! ...anyway, here's the beauty: I also got an Rana 1000 disk drive, an Indus GT disk drive (it even still has that working car-window pop-up space age plastic part!) and dust covers, but what's supercool about this: What the friggin' heck? A gigantic suitcase for my Atari 400 computer! It's from 'The Casemaker' and is called 'The Micro Case' (even though there's nothing micro about it)....copyright NINETEEN SEVENTY FIVE? What what? No way that's authentic. It's got the foam cut out so you can store the computer and everything, and the case has that cool Fuji logo on the side.... Anybody know anything about this strange thing? Did someone have a crazy Atari art project or something and decided to mess with me by sewing up a suitcase 4 years before the 400 came out?
  15. He doesn't want to go to bed because he's enthralled by my amazing posts on this website.
  16. Actually I'm considering this....the 520ST I got had some really cool extras in it, but unfortunately I do not have a disk drive! I can't do much of anything except watch that little bee fly around on GEM! haha
  17. Thanks save2600! Another one added to the Amazon wishlist! I've got like $1000 in books on there now, haha!
  18. Oh God! Now he's going to buy a round-the-world plane ticket stopping in multiple locations just so he can kick all of our asses!
