  1. Grape Red Vines licorice is surprisingly good.

  2. In case anyone (HA) was wondering, I decided to keep the collection. Depressedposting: DO NOT DO.

I read that as if you were about to offload your collection to Hell's Angels.

Good job Carlsson!  At least a slightly obscure reference...I knew some people who'd just say H A if they meant Hell's Angels...

It's short for "console exclusive". I think MS came up with that a few years ago.

  5. I mean this not as criticism, but why is it that the new "retro" consoles (Amico and VCS) are always flooded with "Y'know what would be great? The nine hundredth version of <insert arcade games here>! There aren't seventy other systems to play that on or anything!"

    1. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

That's what I don't understand, why people can't tell the difference between a $60 Flashback with more 2600 games than a $300 VCS which is a low end PC.

Maybe had Atari SA communicated the purpose of the VCS better than they did then there wouldn't be so much confusion...oh wait, I'm just another "hater" trying to give constructive criticism for a product made for easy triggered social media junkies instead of actual retro gamers.

    2. Cebus Capucinis

      Cebus Capucinis

In their defense (albeit very little) I think it's an incredibly hard market to figure out. Frankly, we don't live in a world of "niche" products anymore - even the stuff that's "indie" is big business on major consoles. There's no middle ground - either you make the retro crowd happy with Flashbacks and other inexpensive (relatively) nostalgia-machines and member-berry production, or you (miserably fail) at attempting AAA stuff to compete with MSonyTendo.

Ouya proved that singlehandedly by dying on the vine almost instantly. There just isn't a market for something like this, even well executed (and admittedly Atari certainly didn't execute well)...

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Funny,  My CollectorVision Phoenix is fun as hell and was made by a couple of guys I know (of) from here on AtariAge...My Dragonfly cart arrived today but I haven't had a chance to check it out, but fingers crossed.  And Again, that too... it was a fan project...And look at all the homebrews!

Maybe if Atari SA  A) Had more than one brain cell in their collective head,  and B) Wasn't so busy trying to rip people off...I could go on (and On and On) but really I'm going to stop here.   I'm not going to make excuses for them...(I could figure out the market better than them without even turning on my brain, because I happen to like video games...)

Very nice!  Love the half-doors, and interesting design on the rear bumper.  I've seen what happens when one of those comes down hard on the spare and it's not pretty.

  11. Can one even buy an Ouya anymore? If so, why would one want to? Can you still use them?

    1. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

I don't own an Ouya, but by now, I'm sure the servers are all offline.  Being an Android device, I'm sure there's a way to sideload apps onto it, but it's debatable whether it's worth the effort now that there are newer and better devices available.

    2. Cebus Capucinis

      Cebus Capucinis

Huh. Might see if I can pick one up for $25 or so and good around with it....should be worth that, though I imagine not much more.

Gonna recommend the NP242, because a locking centre diff is *damned* useful and will handle a 350 no problem.  Can verify that it's absolutely usable with a manual transmission, despite what teh intarwebz will say.  Will require modifying driveshaft lengths, though.

That said, have you given thought to a 4.0 stroker?  Keep the bottom end of the 258, mate it to a 4.0 head, do a few other tweaks, and walk out with a 4.5-litre straight-6 with no need to get crazy with mounts, etc.  Not that those are a huge problem for a 350 swap - but I really love the I6 :)

    2. Cebus Capucinis

      Cebus Capucinis

Hmm, looking at that I'd probably get enough of a HP increase for my needs. I don't need a 550HP / tons of torque beast because I'll never tow anything heavier than a small pop-up tent trailer with it.

    3. Cebus Capucinis

      Cebus Capucinis

I should also just jump the gun and put HEI in it, as that's a cheap gain of 20-30 usually.

LOL I didn't even see the photo as I wasn't looking at your profile page.  I see it now, though!  I think we need a "Pets of AtariAge" thread if one doesn't already exist.

Sometime in January, I'll be breaking a 13-year streak of having hardware in a storage unit in a part of the country I haven't lived in since 2011.  Looking forward to seeing what has and has not survived.

Do it...  You know you want to :D

      simbalion

You should try out an ADAM at least once. I'd use mine as it was my most reliable Coleco system, but the space it takes up is enormous! If you do try it out, make sure to put a piece of paper in the printer as it responds to the slightest touch of the keyboard.

  22. Has anyone tried that "emissions pass" additive? Gotta take my '85 CJ7 in this month and I'm too lazy to mess with the carb right now. (Though if that pass stuff breaks the law or something I'll get off my keister and do it)

    1. Cebus Capucinis

      Cebus Capucinis

Nope, sadly. I believe you do get unlimited attempts though, and testing with MVD is only $10.

    2. Shawn

      Shawn

Put some high test gas in it and burn it off on the highway. Should clean out any extra carbon that would be trouble on a test.

      GoldLeader

I've always heard running a can of Sea Foam (additive) will absolutely work wonders and help you pass emissions....Guess I'm lucky I live here,  we don't have emissions tests.
