  2. PS1 is great on the MiSTer. Can't vouch for Saturn or PS1 as I still haven't gotten around to troubleshooting my unit yet. It's been out of commission for like.. a year now. 😅

  7. Sheesh, a 2025 release date? This is sure to get smacked down by Nintendo before then. It looks… interesting, but I am not sure the point given Mario World already exists. This just seems like a less-good version of that.
  8. I had a similar stance on the Wii when it was relatively new. I got into it near the end of its life (by purchasing my own system), ended up really getting into it and had wished I had done so sooner. I think it's a great console that's easy to dismiss because of the shovelware and budget releases that were overly abundant. Cool to see you getting into it! All-time favorites on it for me are Mario Galaxy, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Xenoblade Chronicles and Punch-Out. That last one in particular is a great "pick up and play" kind of game. More recently I've been dabbling with Excite Truck which has been super fun, along with the Ultimate Shooting Collection, which includes three Milestone shmups (Karous, Radirgy and Chaos Field). Chaos Field in particular is one of those STGs I completely dismissed when it released on Dreamcast and Game Cube, but I got into it recently via that collection and think it's pretty sweet. The Wii version is probably one of the better ways to play it, same with Radirgy/Radio Allergy. With the console I still have, I had downloaded lots of stuff from the Virtual Console over the years, but transferred it all to my Wii U when that system launched. So, with no digital downloads remaining on it for the most part, I decided to go ahead and softmod it a couple months back. The process for that was pretty easy and now I can use Nintendon't to load up Game Cube stuff off the SD card, another great use for the Wii. There's also some goofy homebrew releases that may or not be worth trying, but having the option to do so allows for even more options with this platform. Regarding its emulators (after modding the system), the ones for 8 and 16-bit platforms are generally pretty decent, but a CRT is a must. If you run them through a HD display (even via an upscaler), they look terrible. Also, a Classic Controller is a must. Just buy one and keep it with your Wiimote wherever you store it (it has to attach to it anyway). Also, do the Classic Controller Pro, not the standard one (the shoulder trigger locations are awkward on the original). You'll use it for emulators, arcade compilations and other more traditional console-style games.
  9. People absolutely still play them/buy them. It just depends on the price. Trade-in at my local game store looks to be about $40 - $45 for a 4GB model right now (doesn't matter the era, i.e., an original, a Slim model, a 360-E, etc). Sell prices are $100+. If you want it gone fast and sell directly to an individual, you could meet in the middle and ask $80-ish for it. I'm sure someone would snag it--it's still a great platform with a massive library.
  10. I still have not been able to appreciate PO'ed, but I did get sucked into Starfighter earlier this year. That definitely still holds up, IMO.
  11. I recall this game being supremely barebones and not all that interesting. Probably for the best that it wasn’t ported to a million different systems.
  12. I bought this back in December but haven't fired it up yet. Definitely going to give it attempt soon, as quality health has not been a strong suit of mine lately. I should also bust out Wii Fit U while I'm at it just to mix things up.
  13. It's hard to pinpoint where something began, as videogaming as a medium has been a long, evolving, iterative process. That said, I would say "modern gaming" started with the 360/PS3 gen. The reason I feel this way is that--at least with the bigger budget/more mainstream titles--360/PS3 games tend to play out like lower resolution versions of the games you see today. While there have been some improvements here and there, game design elements themselves haven't changed a whole lot and there is still the same sort of focus on movie-like cinematics and storytelling in nearly every big-budget game today, just like there was back then. You can go back and play 360/PS3 era games and feel like, despite some of them being nearly 20 years old, that things haven't advanced all that much. You could simply raise the rendering resolution of a lot of those games, double the framerates, and in many cases they would still hold up pretty well today (just get rid of all the quick-time events and all is good!). Also, the way online multiplayer is implemented, the introduction of things like Achievements and Trophies, the frequent use of post-release patches and downloadable content are also indicators, but strictly speaking from how games themselves tend to be presented, it doesn't feel like nearly 20 years has passed since the launch of the 360. Regarding the Wii, it obviously falls in that generation since it co-existed during the same timeframe, but considering it is basically just another Game Cube, its games tend to reflect that (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, they just tend to feel more like they belong during the Xbox, PS2 or Game Cube era). A more interesting discussion might be to ponder when "Modern Nintendo" began. I'd argue it happened during the Game Cube era. That's when their hardware was strong enough to match their expertise in design and overall production values, both of which haven't changed a whole lot since. 🤔
  14. Gotta give Higgins credit. He was in more Wonder Boy 1 style games than even Wonder Boy himself. 🤣 (I always preferred the arcade formula of the first game, so I have always loved the Adventure Island series.)
