  1. Softmodding a Wii or XBOX is a way to go. If you have a nice HD TV though, you can also go the PC route. Maybe invest in a smaller/mini box or something. You can run all your emulators through it, likewise you have the ability to watch things like Netflix and YouTube from it as well. The PC route is the most flexible IMO.
  2. The GO is a nice little handheld. I will definitely be buying another one down the road when they are pennies just to get all my downloaded PSN titles on it. That aside, the reasons it flopped has been described pretty well in the responses above. If there was some sort of conspiracy, I doubt it had as much of a detrimental effect as Sony's own choices for the system (terrible download pricing model, overly priced system, no UMD drive, etc).
  3. That's basically the key to success there. Just look at the right side of the screen and keep calm. Admittedly, I found the speederbike level in Battlemaniacs (the SNES follow-up) to be a lot more difficult. Speaking of Battlemaniacs, I actually think that game is more challenging than the NES Battletoads (as crazy as that sounds). I have gotten very far into the NES one, but not past the speederbike level in Battlemaniacs.
  4. Have repros been made of this? If so, I will have to see about getting one, too! Was the game actually completed, or is it in a mostly-finished state? or worse? Admittedly I never did do much research on this game.
  5. I have an extra day off this weekend so I may have a go at this. It's been a while since I've played this game, but I have the itch to again..
  6. 45,645. I have a few more days to practice up, I suppose.. Nice score man! This one is tougher than I thought it would be.
  7. Yeah, there's one on the very first level (almost right at the start of it), and there's another at the snake pit as well. I used them a lot as a kid, but generally avoid them these days.
  8. Interesting, it looks like others have had issues with it in the past.
  9. I have not experienced this myself either.
  10. I think I have said it before, but I will say it again--The '90s!! There was such a wide variety of games. Technology made the largest jump during this time period, and so much of the old stuff was still relavant (the 7800 with its 2600 backwards compatibility even lasted through the early '90s).
  11. When I sell on Craigslist, I advise on the listing to send an email to the anonymous Craigslist email I advertise on the post (CL will forward the mail to my inbox). When I respond to them (if they email), I will let them know if I have accepted their offer or not (they usually haggle a bit), then I direct them to call my cell. If they don't follow through with that next step I know they are not serious or are possibly attempting a scam. The ones that do follow through have always ended up buying for around the price I originally asked, and they have usually been able to pick up right away. Regarding the $500 check, yeah, that's a scam. I've had that one before, too. Just be careful and use your common sense.
  12. Usually an asterisk (or three) is enough to make the word lost on the handful of children that may be viewing the forums, while still making sense for the rest of the adults here.
  13. Same here. There were several other FX games between the FX and FX2 chips (some not even polygonal games, like in Yoshis Island), but the majority of them were lackluster as far as I can tell. Stunt Race was slow (framerate-wise), and Argonaut's own Vortex wasn't great, either. Lots of potential, but lots of poor design choices on that one, anyway. I have to give DOOM a pass just for the fact that it was such an ambitious project, and I never did play the motocross one (What was it, Dirt Track FX or something?). There is a Winter Sports Super FX2 game that was only released in the UK (as far as I know), dubbed "Winter Gold". I found out about it not too long ago, and it's actually pretty damn impressive! It was too little too late though, as it came out in '96 or so. Agreed! I thought Star Fox 64 was (and still is) a fantastic game, but that soundtrack was forgettable. The original Star Fox had some rockin' tunes, it had the epic spacey tunes, and more. There was just a lot more variety. Not to mention I prefer the garbled voices of the original versus the vocal personalities they gave the characters in the 64 version.
  14. Star Fox was my first experience with 3D polygons in a game, and I was blown away by it as a kid. I spent a lot of time with it when I was young, but in reality it has been ages since I last played it. I decided to bring it back out last night to see how well it holds up. The first thing I noticed after playing it again is the inconsistent framerate. Fortunately it has its smooth points, but it's very choppy at times, sometimes just a couple of frames per second. Time has definitely not been kind to this game in that regard. After about ten minutes I was able to adjust to it and plow through the center game path without dying ("Level 1" as they call what I assume to be the "Normal" mode). I had a blast with it, and that's when I realized something: This game has near-perfect balance in the gameplay and design department, like many Nintendo-produced titles of the time. The stages are interesting, the enemy patterns are constantly changing and lack a repetitive nature, the bosses can be challenging but not frustratingly so, and there is a feel to the game that just, well, feels very nice, and natural. All of this is expanded upon when playing through the more difficult paths afterward, and all in all, the game has a lot of variety for what it is. The sound still holds up well too, surprisingly! After revisiting this, my modern-day verdict is that this game is still great, even in 2011/2012, nearly twenty years after it was released! My question to you is, what are your thoughts on it? When was the last time you revisited it? Do you have any memories of it when it was new as well?
  15. GKC, you scored the highest on the Ruiner Table than anyone else has during HSC play. You've been added to the top-score list (stickied at the top of the Jaguar HSC forum).
  16. Do you think a manufacture date would be on the game's board itself? That's provided someone can get in contact with someone that owns one of these things.
  17. Likewise, there are UK games that will not play on a US Genesis. Mega SWIV for instance gives you something along the lines of "This is not a PAL system" message, and the game won't boot.
  18. Anyone who complains about this game being too easy needs to take a day to speed run this game (to the best of your ability). It will be much more challenging when you get to bosses and are not leveled-up properly. It's fun.
  19. That's a convenient function to have in this case.
