  1. They don't have the money. That's ultimately what it came down to back in the day and why they exited the hardware business. Not to mention hardware costs are astronomically higher today than they were in 1998. To get into it at the same level as Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo, you need to have billions of dollars, not millions like Sega is probably worth today (if they are even worth that).
  2. Ran into a couple other weird ones: - Super Darius 2 blacked out on me on the Zone O boss fight. I could still hear the occasional shots and death sounds, but it wasn't registering actual deaths/triggering a Game Over. I could still pull up the Analogue OS menu with holding Select + Down. Totally black screen otherwise. Resetting the game from the OS menu fixed it, but I lost my progress and had to start fresh. - Terraforming loaded fine for me last night, but upon playing it again this afternoon, it refused to load after the initial developer logo faded to black. I power cycled the console and it worked after that, but I just thought that was weird. Has anyone by chance checked their SD card after having a few HuCard games in the library? I am curious how that is stored and if one can drag library files over from someone else's SD card to fake a history. The reason I ask is that apparently there's a workaround for older Everdrives. Select a HuCard from your library's history, choose "Play", and if you have the Everdrive in it should boot up that device's menu. I don't have a real HuCard and thus can't make a Library history entry for it.. but if I could copy someone else's, maybe I'd be able to use my Everdrive? See here:
  3. My One X was fairly solid for the most part, but I did get that "something went wrong" with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Also got some random dropouts back to the dashboard/crashes without any errors, but to be fair that still happens occasionally on my Series X.
  4. He's already stated he doesn't want to touch Japanese games. Which is kind of unfortunate, because that's like, half the library of worthwhile games on the system. 🤷‍♂️
  5. Just going to respond to this in case anyone else is/was curious: Yes, you can play PAL games on a NTSC system with an Action Replay. However, results may vary. Games will likely play a bit faster on a NTSC system due to the 50/60hz difference. Also, some games may not display correctly. For instance, the PAL Quake is blown up and goes off the screen--you can't really see your HUD as a result (though due to the 50/60hz difference, it does play slightly faster than the NTSC version). PAL DOOM and Exhumed (PowerSlave) display on a NTSC system correctly.
  6. Mine sat for nearly a week and then was delivered yesterday.
  7. I tried that with the proper firmware but couldn't get my 8bitdo controller to pop up on my PC as a USB drive like it's supposed to according to 8bitdo's instructions. Thankfully the dongle does work. The home button will power on the console and reset the game you are currently in. I am always right next to the console and I found that hitting the eject button will pop out the disc and take you back to the OS menu. I'll have to look in the manual to see if there's another shortcut. It depends on what kind of controller you are trying to use. I have heard issues with people trying to pair their PS4 controllers and whatnot. However, 8bitdo accessories (of the 2.4ghz variety in particular) that have dongles, should work right out of the box (M30, SN30, N30, etc).
  8. I played a lot of CDs last night with only a couple of issues. Mad Stalker would freeze at the second load screen countdown (after the initial opening cutscene). Riot Zone also had major graphical glitching on the first two boss fights (the rest of the game was fine). The rest of the other games I tried were fine. As expected, my Everdrive 1.0 isn't recognized. *Edit: I just read on another forum that changing the region settings can fix some discs not loading. I.e., switch it off of "Auto", and change it to the specific region of the actual disc.
  9. I have no pity for people that complain about "bad design choices" in 30 year old games.. when they actually aren't designed all that bad. It's whining, plain and simple. You want something to complain about? Go play Vortex and get back to me.
  10. If you ever have questions about where you can/cannot save, bring up your menu. If it lets you save, then you’re on a save spot. What’s so difficult about that? Show some agency, people.
  11. Turtles in Time is a great soundtrack, yeah. I love the renditions in the Genesis Hyperstone Heist as well. Peak Konami music.
  12. Mystic Quest is one of my favorite rock-style soundtracks from that era.
  13. If it's this one, then yeah, it's got at least 20 sports games - https://www.ebay.com/itm/225923772304?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=kU5fMY1ARO2&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=2FzUndi_Toq&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY That said, it does have some decent titles that are worth money. Quake, Panzer Dragoon II, Mystaria, etc. I'm not sure if it would hit $3,000 if you priced all of them out individually, but it could be worth doing. Plus, it's also "best offer". He might be able to get a few hundred off, or more. You never know.
  14. If you are only collecting to collect, then get out. It's a waste of time and money. If you are in it to play, you have lots of choices.
  15. You won't unless you get extremely lucky. If you simply want to play, invest in an optical drive emulator (where you can load games to a SD card), or something like a Pseudo Saturn Kai cart that will allow the system to read burned discs. If you absolutely have to have physical (which is somewhat non-sensical at this point in time, unless you're a millionaire), get the Japanese versions of games released in the USA. All of Sega's arcade conversions are English-friendly in their Japanese form. Sega Rally, Virtual-On, Fighting Vipers, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop 1 and 2, etc.
  16. I forgot to follow up on this. I ended up finishing the game, then went and did a second playthrough on stream. The story does fall apart a bit near the end of the game. Characters kind of rush from one plot beat to another, then before you know it you're in a totally different town, yada yada. But I'd still say the first half of the game makes logical sense. The gameplay was fun for most of the game. A couple of late game dungeons began to look very samey. And the final boss rush was a little abrupt, given that immediately prior you had fought a boss, so fighting it again back to back felt weird. The final boss however is pretty cool and posed an actual challenge. Supposedly if you get all the red jewels, you'll unlock a secret final boss (which is actually the first boss of Soul Blazer). Pretty cool! I don't have the time to figure stuff like that out, but it's neat to know of a hidden boss like that. I definitely recommend this game in this day and age. It holds up great in the visuals and sound department, and the gameplay is fun and fair. I'm not sure if I'm ready for Terranigma, as what I am seeing in videos makes it look like a much more grand adventure with its gameplay systems looking a lot more like Secret of Mana. But one day, perhaps. I'm thinking about going backwards and trying Soul Blazer. That looks really fun and it seems some of the combat can get a bit chaotic, which is right up my alley. Then maybe after I will go back and do Actraiser again.
  17. Finally saw movement on my DUO. Says it should be arriving tomorrow. I wonder if it’s because I busted out my actual PCE DUO last night? Figured I’d need it set up still since the FPGA version won’t work with my older Everdrive. 🤣
  18. Radiant Silvergun is a $200-ish game, not $1,200. Be careful not to conflate things like new/sealed or graded for your standard used product. If you want an actual idea of what these things are selling for, used the “completed listing” search option. Otherwise it’s easy to assume the highest buy-it-now listing is what people are paying (which I can assure you, they are not). Are we in a bubble? I wish we were, but the market has been stupid for the better part of a decade now. I think some big ticket items have softened a little bit (Panzer Dragoon Saga is one, believe it or not), but your Silverguns have not (and to be fair to it, it was always an expensive title once you could no longer get it new).
  19. It’s for the better. There are more important things in life than acquiring hordes of videogames to put on a shelf.
