  1. The depth of some of these reviews bothers me... Hardly anything on Chopper Command or Space Invaders, but a good 3 screens worth on X-Man? WTS?

    My hard drive is dying

Well, a few months ago I had my main HDD go fritz on me: the freezer trick worked, and it has been working pretty normal ever since; or at least to my knowledge it has, as this computer is kinda funky anyway. Whatever case, I checked HD Tune today to check the stats on my new 1.5 TB External HDD (for backups no less ^_^) and I discoverd a nice big red flag on my main drive: RAW READ ERROR RATE: Failed This is one of the major flags, meaning this drive could die at pretty much any moment.. or I could have another few years out of it. @[email protected] So, I duno what to do or think. I do need a new computer, sure, but I wonder what I can do to save Maria.. she uses EIDE drives, which basically means, well, I am screwed on getting a "new" drive. Everything is SATA now... Any advice guys?
  3. Oh yes, it is hitting hard for my Generation. I am already starting to get back into the Genesis (well, harware wise, been emulating for years now), and of course wanting to get more NES stuff again, but since that is the crest of the wave right now, I am waiting for it all to die down, like the pre-crash scene is now. As far as PSX software goes, the number one game for that will ALWAYS be Final Fantasy VII, with Xenogears a close second. Heck, dang near any square title from that system is gold, even if it sucked as a whole. I know people can EASILY spend 120+ USD on a pre greatest hits version of FF7. Heck, I need a copy myself... :/
  4. So, that is what the big red tower on the motherboard is? I am scared to ever touch that thing.
  5. Haha.. 2500.. I wanted to make a long drawn out joke on it, but decided not to. Well, as unpleasant of a topic as it is, while time will eventually end us up in a world where no one around during the 2600's life will be.. well.. alive, if people like me, and many other younger members on here continue to show up, demand might not taper off. I am drawn to the quick action and simplistic complexity of the majority of these classic games (Spider Fighter anyone?), and impressed by the depth and complexity of the more slow paced epics (Pitfall, Dark Chambers, to name a few). Thinking on it, maybe things as Mr. G said would be a little extreme, but I think things will stay strong, and maybe around the 40 year mark in 2017, things will really heat up. 2037 will be a major year... the 50 year mark. If the media decides to stay on top of things, every report will make demand higher and higher. Look at Twitter: nothing till the media and celebrities picked up on it.. sure, now people are getting smart and leaving in droves, but it worked for it, for a time. Things go in cycles like that.
  6. I traded with a guy in the late 1980s who did that. He would go up and down neighborhoods trading game cartridges without instructions, but from 1982 to 1985, I never saw that happening. You got the cartridge, instructions, and usually the box too, at least where I lived. Anyway, as I have said many times before, a game meant for kids should have been easier. Easier than Adventure. It sucks that so many kids got an advanced game that should have been aimed at teens and adults, but it happened. They got screwed by the genius of Howard Scott Warshaw. The point is that although they got screwed, if they can let go of their childhood rage, they can finally enjoy the genius of Howard Scott Warshaw instead of feeling screwed by it. You're not kids anymore. You're getting gray hair. How about giving the game a chance? Not a grudging, pinch your nose and get it over with kind of chance. A real chance. With all of the typing I'm doing here, I need to look at my posts and see if I can use any of this stuff on my web site. Amen brother.
  7. Actually, as far as the market goes, I think you are pretty correct: as time passes, things naturally get rarer, and demand among people (like myself) who want to experience stuff from before their time (I think a natural part of the human psyche) will cause the prices payed to rise quite a bit, to the point where crazy collections like mine, in an area like Memphis is, will become quite an investment. Heck, it is sad to say, I am maybe the ONLY person in the Memphis / Bartlett / Cordova area who collects these things: Seems like almost no retro gaming stores carry anything older than NES (heck, one for some reason doesn't have anything Sega Genesis @[email protected], and of course Master System is unheard of to them), but one place, I am actually seemingly the only person to pick up anything: One of the guys up there will always put pre-NES game carts and such in one specific spot for me to check, knowing dang well I will buy them all up, while cutting me a GREAT price to boot. Now, if I am such a black hole for these things, in this area, then I might do well to start a side business selling these things, especially consoles, as I can get a good bulk rate on them, if I ever save up the cash =^.^=. It's just a matter of getting everything together and seeing what happens. If the trend keeps up, then I think we all luck out, as long as we are willing to spend higher initial investments on given carts. That is about the only problem with the value and demand going up is that, well, the dang things cost more!
  8. Awwww, c'mon! I love beany bopper! Yeah, Beany Bopper is sweet! Get above 100K and bam! Insane.. simply insane. As for E.T, yeah, if you ever do get really good at the game.. faster humans. Nuff said. What R.T says about the game really is pretty much the undying truth about the software: he states constant fact. 3 pits only you ever have to go into. Heck, only one phone piece is on any given screen, so as long as the FBI agent doesn't take them from you and hide them again, all you have to do is go to the next pit screen, find the ? zone, get the phone piece and repeat. Escape the humans after you, find that elusive phone home zone, which should actually be your first priority, and then make the call, get to the forest, use the send humans home zone, then quickly get to that landing zone.
  9. Order sent for one Standard. Waiting to pay...
  10. I have said it before, I will say it again: I think ET was a wonderful, and generally balanced game. Raiders was TOO cryptic and crazy, and Yars' was very simple, but deep within that quick snappy gameplay. Compared to non HSW games, it is still a perfect balance of speedy twitch gameplay, to avoid the NPC's and the pits when you don't want to fall into them, a hint of mystery as you never knew where the phone pieces and flower were, and strategy in using the power zones, and it is actually a challenge to complete, until you get used to it. but unlike other games you can just play forever, the game doesn't get boring as easily to me... So, there ya go, my thoughts. Those kids online who bash it all just mindless sheep who want to jump on the bandwagon.
  11. Well, I am pleased to report that my Sears Heavy Sixer arrived today, in wonderful shape. It needs the color pot adjusted, but that is no big issue ^_^;;. For all it is worth, I am very happy with the transaction, and would / will do business with Cosmosiss again. For the rest of you who ordered, I hope your items arrive soon.
  12. Yeah, Mana pulls off a dress well, but he is still a male, he just likes to be WTF. After all, it is Japan. Harisu, on the other hand.. she is something else. Married too, which is awesome in that "wow, it worked for her" kinda way.
  13. Sent me Poop in a Box. ._.;; Nah, that's an inside joke. Sold me an Intellivision for a good price, and was kind enough to throw in not only an INTV III box (always cool to have) but also some duplicate games, no additional charge whatsoever. Tracking info given, and a fun chat to boot! You want something from him? Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
  14. Well, Mana-Sama just wears fancy dresses all the time.. I could go into Harisu if you wish, but... no, no need to derail the thread further. look her up if you wanna know Anyway, back to the milfyness.
  15. So HSW actually did a 4th game? I never knew...
  16. GIGA SCORPION! He would require a second TIA on the cart just to render him without flicker. ~~~~ Ok, I know that makes no sense from a hardware POV, just try to laugh. Please?
  17. So many response's I could make to that, but I won't say anything. I'll let someone else finally say something.
  18. Then just do the game in low res mode. Again, if a clone game would be made, rather than an actual attempt to port it, then it should be fine, as the creator would have the freedom to work around with what they have. Maybe I do need perspective though: What resolutions do Galaga, Pole Position 2, Desert Falcon, and other decently known 7800 games run on? If those are at 160 then I have no objection.
  19. Dude, it's manna...(passes bong) No no, you mean... Mana!
  20. It's actually quite simple. Download my V5 ROMs collection first (you won't find a better documented and researched one): http://www.atarimania.com/rom_collection_archive_atari_2600_roms.html Then search for the ~ symbol in the ROMs map. The ROMs with a ~ symbol are the original versions. Put these in a seperate map. You now have a clean VCS 1977-1992 ROMs collection. Add your favorite homebrews to it and... voila! Hope this helps. oh so thats what the tildes mean in your rom sets. Always wondered... Well, now I know what to put on my Harmony cart when I finally order one.
  21. I would say it like this: Within what I have seen the 7800 do, and what logic I can throw at it, a game that plays in the same manor as SMB3 could be done without too much of an issue: set up some kind of level mapping system, code out some alternate abilities, find a way to tie it all together, and walla! I would NOT honestly want to see SMB3 converted over, beyond maybe a tech demo state, for both the legal reasons, and the fact it would never quite be the same: on the same vein, a homebrew based on said gameplay elements would be awesome. A Sonic style game on the system would be epic too...
  22. My sister though that when you extended ET's neck, he was opening his mouth. If you look at him, the space under his head does kinda look like a mouth, on a different art style. I know people have had several comments as I played these things with them, but I cannot recall any of them at the moment.
  23. I think it's more likely it was repaired or refurbished in June of 1980. AFAIK, heavy sixers were only made up through Spring of '78. By that summer they switched over to the light sixers, and in '80 they switched to the 4 switch. Yeah, I know the general timeline, which is what made me wonder about this unit... and considering the shape the insides are in... it makes you wonder. 87258E has a white label matching my main H6, 40334H, and is an identical case. 87558E however, is seriously rusted / corroded on some spots on the inside, so it would support your idea that it is refurb (I figured it might have been as well) but for it to have the NOV 22 '80 (my memory was bad on the date till the other day when I went to fix it up) written on it so clearly both stamp wise and in pencil on the RF Shield... kinda excessive for a refurbishment when they don't really do that for NEW ones. Also, if it is a referb AFTER this damage, why would they leave the inside so filthy? You think they would have taken the case and washed it off... So it is not unlikely this unit has NOT been repaired beyond my own attempts... If it was damaged by water in some way, and fixed as best they could, then it would explain it being in great condition switch wise (they feel really good) and aside from that crazy static, it being a pretty good unit. A little more banged up and edge-worn than 40334H but still nice physically. In the end, who knows... I vote anything with these units, as Atari always seems to have some surprise waiting around the corner. On topic, thebiggw, if it looks like the heavy sixer example, then it more than likely is one: at least, the case is for one. Light sixer guts, IIRC, can be transplanted, but that's getting too deep into this at the moment.
  24. Bought an Arcadia Supercharger and games 1 thru 10 from him. Fast shipping, in great condition. One heck of a way to spend $150 ^_^. Will buy from again!
  25. sweet. Now, to score an odyssey. The hunt continues... @[email protected]
