  1. If you want to try piggy back, I'll send you a 64x1 dram, fer free. You can PM me, I don't know how to do that. Opening a 130XE is pretty easy. Four screws and then the shielding, which on mine is long gone, so I don't know how tough removing the shielding would be. Be real specific on removing the keyboard tape to mb, lift up the keyboard, leaving the front down, then pull up on the cable at the mb connectorl. Putting it back in, you gotta hold the ribbon close to the connector and push it in so it seats, making sure the ribbon is left to right centered so the contacts line up. Actually, I think you can just lift up the top of the keyboard and lay it over on the bench, without removing the ribbon cable. That would be even better. OK, I never tried it before. Don't do like I did and try piggybacking after power up. Piggy back with the power off, making sure all pins are lined up, THEN turn the computer on. Also, when you lay the keyboard on the bench, have something about the thickness of a cartridge to put under the left and right sides of the keyboard to keep from a key being pressed. Better yet, don't do it. Now my 130XE won't run. Wait, I think I found it. It is my video jack. It has been messed up before, just playing with it can make it flakey. I get good boot with RF. Ok...so tell me....what happened when you tried piggy-backing AFTER power-up??? Seriously, thanks for the tips. Sure. When I first tried piggy backing, I was trying with the computer already booted up. That resulted most often with a corrupted screen and a crash. So, I learned not to do it that way. I then put the DRAM on the computer DRAM with the power off, then powered up. It always powered up normally then, no hang/crash/corrupted screen. It requires power down, piggy back, power up for each of 16 DRAMs I guess, one at a time. If there is more than one bad DRAM, I guess you might see some improvement, but not get a good boot. I certainly wish Sloopy or someone with more knowledge would tell us how it should be done. I see I have a PM, I haven't read it yet. If you give me your address, I'll send two DRAMs. To be sure, you have to be certain the notch on the chips are toward the left. Russ I dont use the 'piggyback' method of checking DRAMs... if they say 'MT' on them, I just replace them ALL... the MT DRAMs used in 130XE's suck... sloopy.
  2. Yes, it is most likely bad ram... unfortunately the storm on the that caused 2 million people without power on the east coast has hit me... so I am not doing much of anything right now until I get power again either Monday or Tuesday... if you cant find anyone in the mean time, send me a msg Wednesday or Thursday... sloopy.
  3. status update... The storms on the east coast of the US has nailed me to the wall... altho I had no trees fall on my house and my family is ok, my power will be off until monday or tuesday... sloopy.
  4. no, i am saying the problem was bad ram... sloopy.
  5. [bugs Bunny Gangster Voice]What about me boss?[/Voice] ;') sloopy.
  6. 1) that is a capacitor, you can heat the one side and lift it a little if you need some more room, but be careful as they can break in half... 2) those are the ROM sockets, the larger cable that connects to the OS ROM goes to one of those, I dont know which tho, as I havnt done a 1200XL install of U1mb... sloopy.
  7. hint...hint... Well, people are lighting torches, and gathering pitchforks with blood and VBXE in their eyes... Maybe I should get them done before I do anything with SIDE? ;') sloopy.
  8. Hard for everyone to order a SIDE right now... hopefully soon this will change... sloopy.
  9. that list is the people not shipping this week... you are in the list shipping this week... just for spookt, VBXE's 'shipping' this week (only loose boards are shipping, installs are being done this week, so will ship next week) JohnBuell WizardNJ dkerfoot NML MoparStephen DocRotCod DocRotCod Robert Miller Beamer320i Andymoo spookt Shou ;') sloopy.
  10. after an hour of looking... you are that empty space above... I.e. first in the next batch... I was going through all the orders and noticed there was one I missed, so I went through ALL payments recv'd since last Oct, to make sure i didnt miss anyone else... I was putting them in order 'top down' from PP, which is newer to older, when i should have been going 'bottom up'... fortunately where the cut-off's are, it doesnt effect batches... Lemeil enito cfn franky99 spurge Black-Byte ajcek pmetzen 1ng MG Ransom utengineer foft rockinkat Kenjennings wesmond fastrobplus Doomguy joey ChrisUnionNJ is the list... sloopy.
  11. how large a sum of cash? If you have to ask, you cant afford it... ;'P sloopy.
  12. Actually, you fell through the crack, you are on the list between the first and second run. because someone who was in the first run, hasnt paid yet, you got bumped from second to first. Your VBXE is the last one on the list of the first run, and to help me get this 800 to Flashjazzcat, yours is going in the box to to him, and then he is re-shipping to you... Which is going this friday... sloopy.
  13. um, that list are the 'second' and 'third' runs... maybe you should throw an eyeball above where these are... yours is done, its being held hostage until you come over and pick it up ;'D sloopy.
  14. so, where the 'cheap china PCB's' up to snuff for you? ;') sloopy.
  15. your JUST before spurge at 5th... so i dont get a bunch of individual 'where/when am I' posts... This is C&P'ed from my VBXE spreadsheet: enito - 2 cfn franky99 - 2 spurge Black-Byte - 2 ajcek 1ng ---- Cut off from next run, if your below this line, large sums of cash will get you above it ;'D joey ChrisUnionNJ Kenjennings MG Ransom utengineer foft Doomguy fastrobplus wesmond (blank spots are people who didnt contact me through AA, or I dont know their AA nicks at time of payment) sloopy.
  16. Your 6th in the next batch... sloopy.
  17. OK, so progress is going on! Fine! VBXE for ALL. I only thought, that I would be near top of the list too, because my VBXE VGA/XE/PAL was "nearly shipping" since january. I hope the next 10 won´t take another 9 months ... This will give grand grand grand sons before the 8-Bit Community got it´s VBXEs :-) (which is also a good thing of course) greetings 1NG Ingo, Yes, you are in the next 'group', which will be 12-15 boards, and no they wont take 9 months... This group of boards I am working on now is all working except two, and I am doing the testing on them to ship monday. Whats taking these so long to ship is, 5 of them are installs and i didnt realize this... JohnBuell, yours is being shipped today if PP can get its act together, since last night 'PP shipping is temporarily not available'... if not, I will take it into the post office monday... I have talked to flashjazzcat, and the ones he is installing are going to be shipping friday... his would be shipping monday, but i am also sending him an 800 so he can work incognito... sloopy.
  18. Ah we are medical drs now ........ Sloopy read the warning from OSHA. Don't you trust your government. They are thinking of your health Nope, I am not a doctor... or a lawyer... I went to school for... electrical engineering, specifying in electronics (didnt have 'electronic engineering back then ;')... so i am knowledgable about electronics, not all this medical stuff... sloopy.
  19. trans-dermal, and contact contamination are more likely then lead oxide inhalation to cause lead poisoning... the 'main' hazard from the fumes is flux... either way, inhaling isnt good... lead-free flux is just as bad for you... sloopy.
  20. Basically the adaptor I made the pins are all the same except the top 3 on each side... Pins 1, 2, 3, 29, and 31, have clips on them that go to the connections on the ROMel like: Pin 1- A19 Pin 2- A16 Pin 3- A15 Pin 29- A14 Pin 31- W/E (I think this is where is goes, its been a while since i have programmed one of mine...) If you need step by step let me know... sloopy.
  21. Well, my spool of leaded solder has a warning on it which says "LEAD. Do not inhale"..... guess I would have to go with the manufacturer's warning on this subject. The extended RAM test program is to test the extended RAM, so it will be run only after the main memory RAM is fixed and the machine can boot. The temps we use for soldering, or even our soldering irons are capable of when the temp is all the way up, isnt high enough to vaporize lead, or tin for that matter... the main inhale hazzard is the flux fumes... Either way, the comment wasnt meant literally, was more because of the RSI in my hands I take breaks often, the sniffing fumes comment is just common among people 'in the biz', as a 'nod' to drug addicts whose preferred drug is something inhaled or sniffed... sloopy.
  22. Right now I am way too behind in work to accept any new jobs (unless you want to wait for late July at min return ;'), the best I can offer is a trade of one of my spare working 130XE mobo's which are fully socketed, and have a the peterson 320K upgrade, for the price I usually do a full socket and DRAM replacement... as for replacement DRAMs, you can also use 41256's which are usually cheaper and work fine as long as pin 1 on them are tied to GND (or Vcc via resistor)... russg: thanks for the recommendation tho :') and yes, I am working on VBXE's right now at 6am... taking a break from solder fumes, rumor has it they arnt good for you ;') sloopy.
  23. I have a Genius G540, and it supports most devices... altho it also says it supports older devices (i.e. 2716/27/32/2764) it only has USB power so doesnt do well with them... but all newer devices (i.e. 29xxx/39xxx/49xxx series) it works fine... an example of one... eBay Auction -- Item Number: 160793464687 sloopy.
  24. I am gonna suggest purely bad ram... and def is fixable... sloopy.
