  1. Two years really isn't that long for a computer to last - I've got lots that are way older and still working fine. You would be better just replacing the faulty components (DVD drive & sound card) rather than buying a whole new machine?

    The DVD drive lets me plays movies - but with no sound - but it won't let me write files to CD. I have absolutely no idea how to replace a sound card. I just guess that e-machines are crappy and I need to get a better computer.

     

    E-machines do have a reputation for early failure. My sister in law had one that lasted only a year. She only paid $300 for it so it wasn't a big loss.

    Personally, I dislike any bigbox retail machines, I like to build my own with parts I choose.
