  1. "I've had the most interferences with a homebrew (Marble Craze) which completely went away after my Atari was modded."

I am curious, what do you mean by 'modded'? What did you do to the Atari, and how? (I can't do anything electronical or mechanical like that, my talents exist elsewhere - but it'd be interesting to know, as perhaps I could persuade someone to 'mod' it for me then)

    Thanks.

  2.

Are you using an antenna cable?

 If yes, you should try replacing it with a good, better shielded cable. That way all interferences should become much smaller or completely disappear.

I wasn't aware I had alternatives.. my Atari 2600jr only has an RF cable output. I wish it had a SCART though..

It's not the cable anyway, I have tried different cables, even two specially purchased 'shielded cables' for this purpose. It reduced the normal RF-interference, but not this weird Atari-specific interference.

(I don't mind the regular RF interference, it doesn't affect the graphics, but this does)

Perhaps a different Atari individual will behave differently, who knows. Perhaps that airport pretty close from here makes it impossible for any Atari to be used in my home without interference, I don't know. But I am gonna test it and try to fix it somehow if I can..

  3. I haven't had any interference issue with mine, or haven't noticed any at least.

It depends on your setup. If your Atari is modded or your antenna cable is well shielded, then you shouldn't see any interference.

I've had the most interferences with a homebrew (Marble Craze) which completely went away after my Atari was modded. I suppose interferences become more noticeable from modern carts because they are manufactured differently and also because some modern homebrews are using the Atari hardware pretty extensively.

    "Modded"??

My Atari isn't 'modded' .. why would Atari need to be modded?

I do live near the airport, that could be the cause. In fact, the RF cable doesn't have anything to do with it (I especially purchased a shielded one (though they said they only sell shielded ones anyway nowadays), and it didn't help (this was when I first got the Atari).

It seems to be very cart-specific; that 32-in-1 cart has also terrible interference, but Cosmic Ark doesn't have almost ANY (at least I can't very easily see any), when played from the Imagic-manufactured cartridge.

But as I said, there's not much that can be done about it anyway, I just mentioned it because it kinda bugs me a bit but it doesn't matter.. I still have a few original carts if I want to play without interference.

(Perhaps the new Atari that I am still waiting to receive might have less interference, who knows)

Thanks anyways for all the help and answers.

  4. But otherwise there are no complaints, I am very happy about it, and I am most thankful to you, mr. Batari, for you have really worked hard on this and being a loyal, trustworthy and user-friendly shopkeeper/manufacturer/seller!

Quoting myself, I of course mean you have BEEN, and not that you ahve worked hard on BEING .. (: Sorry!

Also I wanted to add that the manual (Quickstart Guide) is just great, very professional and user-friendly work, absolutely fantastic!

  5. Harmony cart just arrived in Switzerland. Thank you!

Also, I got the Harmony Cartridge today here in Finland!

Thank you a lot - I have been testing it a bit, and most games work (there was ONE game that just tilted in a weird way, but I can't now remember which one it was - I can find out if you wish) just perfectly.

There is only ONE flaw that is actually very disturbing, but I doubt anything can be done about it anyway, so I hesitate to tell.. it is the INTERFERENCE sensitivity. If I play Cosmic Ark or Chopper Commander with an actual, original cartridge, there is not much interference at all. If I play the exact same (NTSC) version of the game with Harmony Cart, there is HUGE, disturbing interference. The same can be said about some games in 32-in-1-cartridge. But the interference is even AUDIBLE in the menu in Harmony Cartridge, and kind of worries me a bit.

But otherwise there are no complaints, I am very happy about it, and I am most thankful to you, mr. Batari, for you have really worked hard on this and being a loyal, trustworthy and user-friendly shopkeeper/manufacturer/seller!

So, please accept my humble thanks for your magnificent product and great work!

I am hoping to film a small video of the Harmony Cart in action, as soon as I get my NTSC Atari first.. (because then I can hopefully finally use my paddles, and play games like Kaboom! and Fireball) - and then place it to my youtube page, which I will be glad to share with you after I get some Atari stuff in there.

Thanks a lot, and I wish you a magnificently glorious and euphoric decade transformation phase!

    Sincerely,

  6. Great game! I got it when they were first on sale here, and it's a lot of fun.

    Indeed!

Actually, it is THE game (though with the 90% version as I didn't know any better back then) that got me seriously interested in the Atari 2600. I am sure some other game would've done that too, but that game was just -most-interesting- to me at that particular moment, as after reading about the capabilities of the Atari 2600, it's three-totall-different-level architechture, colorful graphics, neat sounds (which you couldn't reproduce on the C64) and that amazing playability, and it's originality and .. wow, I was just so impressed, that I really realized that this machine is something that I should definitely start investigating more..

So I did.. and found many, many gems that I now couldn't live without (well, I guess I -could-, strictly speaking, but it would be a major bummer), and which I cherish.. and a few which, I already have as real cartridges for my Atari 2600jr.

Fascinating how things escalate from some unique small point into more and more elaborate setups until you have the whole original system with every accessory possible for it :) (of course this is a bit of an exaggaration just to let you better see what I mean)

I mean, it isn't that long time ago that I didn't even have my C64's (and the x1541 cable and all those things). But then I found one pair of tiny filter capacitors.

One pair of small filter capacitors.. that was all that was needed to get the ball rolling. I figured I could finally replace the other 8580 in my HardSID with a 6581, so then I would have three 6581's in it! But I would still have to find those 6581's somewhere.. so I bought a C64, but it came with an 1541 and some software.. so.. I didn't have the heart to 'kill' the C64 for it's SID chip, so I connected everything and .. wow.. I realized how much more magical it is to use a real machine instead of emulators. This lead to then finding more and more C64's, until I had enough real machines so I could spare one for this experiment..

    And so on.

But Saboteur, for me, was the definite eye-opener that Atari 2600 is probably much more interesting machine than I had previousl ever realized! I thought it just had some overly-simplistic games that aren't very interesting, but I wanted to check it out anyway, because some of those might still fascinate me in some level. But I didn't expect all this wonder and magic and glory.. why didn't anyone tell me?

Oh well, now I know, and I really love knowing it..

  7. I just got the email, announcing that my Harmony Cart has been shipped in monday or tuesday, woohoo! It could arrive pretty soon, except that it's christmas and that probably means most post offices are closed for awhile, then there's the weekend.. rats, just my luck (:

But even if I get it next week, it's gonna be great! Can't wait to come here to express my reactions and a personal review of the Harmony Cart.. so, perhaps see you all next week, hehe. And joyful holidays and year-transition time for all!

And thank you, mr. Batari - it's really exciting to get this kind of email!

  8.

The games that you are referring to are "Air/Sea Battle" and "Sky Diver".

Here's a list of the games included in the 32-in-1 cart:

Yes, I realized that a bit later in this thread, when I remembered the names after seeing them written. Thank you for this list, I already had some other list, but it was errorenous so it was more confusing than explaining. Perhaps this one is correct.

By the way, does anyone know if the first game in that 32-in-1 pack is -supposed- to be greyscale once you start playing it? (I couldn't get it back to color, although -before- you start the game, everything seems colorful)

According to this list, it'd be "Space Jockey". Also, I couldn't figure out how to play all those games.. some of them don't start, no matter what - and for example the Golf games are just impossible to figure out without some kind of manual (or maybe my brain is missing a plugin for this sort of stuff :))..

It's a nice pack with some pretty neat games, but many games in it seems like some kind of filler-material, like all those C64 "(many) games in one"-packs.

I did actually try to play all those games but the only ones I liked were mostly already mentioned here..

But just for fun's sake I'll list the games I like in that pack and am glad to play..

    - Human Cannonball

    - Freeway (although I get bored with this usually very quickly, lack of variation and sideways movement)

    - Air/Sea Battle

    - Space War (though I would need another person to play this with - and I don't like how the

    bullets can run out)

    - Tennis (though now I have Realsports Tennis, which is much better, though Atari is too good in this one - more fun with another human)

    - Combat would be fun to test with another human also, only a couple of times have I had

that pleasure, and never yet with real Atari..

    - Sky Diver (this is a blast with another human)

    - Laser Blast (although I played this so much I got bored and let myself be killed - I just

love the laser sound though! I try to shoot as much into ground as possible so I can just

hear the sound many times in a row - too bad you can't shoot in your 'free time')

    - Stampede (this isn't very interesting though in the long run)

    - Bowling (the names of the games could be so simple back then.. :) - I just love the flashy

whistling appreciation party that happens when you get a strike, or 'half' a strike)

    - Skiing (though this becomes a bit mind-numbing too, a bit like the Commodore's SKI, which

    I also like)

Hmm, this list (that you gave me) seems to be actually accurate, thank you very very much!

  9. My understanding of the events are thus:

    1. I found a complete prototype of the game

    2. Al and I decided that it would be a neat game to sell so we made nice homebrew out of it (with HSW's permission)

    3. Shortly there after Atari decided to include Saboteur in their Flashback console (accidentally stealing my manual in the process)

    4. Al decided to stop selling Saboteur because Atari was actively using it in their Flashback unit

So there you go. Nothing sinister or forbidden.

    Tempest

I see, thank you for the explanation. Maybe the archive.org missing year can be attributed to something else, then.

  10.

Do they think people are going to purchase that infernal machine JUST to get some re-written modern-crappy version of that game? There's no sense on capitalistic laws, it seems..

The FlashBack 2 version is actually the final version ;)

So you are saying they actually used ACTUAL, ORIGINAL and AUTHENTIC game versions in their second Flashback machine? (instead of the modern re-writes in the first one)

Or did I misunderstand something.. that has been known to happen :)

  11. Hey all!

I've been trying to get hold on the full version of the unreleased game 'Saboteur', and one video in Youtube claims it can be purchased in the original author's website. But there's only the video 'Once upon Atari', and I have even emailed him and asked what's going on, but haven't got any reply.

I also heard it could be downloadable from Atariage, but the link doesn't seem to work. Also, that Saboteur page has been removed from Archive.org for a whole year or so.

I haven't read the full story, so could someone elaborate on that, and perhaps explain a couple of things..

    1) What's going on? (I suspect some legal stuff made you guys take the download off and made you stop selling it, but this story is difficult to piece together from crumbs of information lying here and there)

    2) How does one go about getting the full version of Saboteur? I mean, there has to be SOME way to obtain it..I haven't been able to get my hands on it no matter what I have tried.. it's not on ebay, and big boys have told me it's not on torrent sites or emule networks etc.

I would be willing to purchase it just to get it, but I can't seem to find any place that sells it. What's the point of killing an unreleased game so that NO ONE might even buy it, if you are not gonna sell it? Is it because they sell a crummy reproduction version in that 'Flashback' machine? That wouldn't surprise me, knowing how cruel and heartless this world and the corporations can be.. but would it really harm anyone to just sell that game separately or let people download it?

Do they think people are going to purchase that infernal machine JUST to get some re-written modern-crappy version of that game? There's no sense on capitalistic laws, it seems..

But, I would very much like to hear the story at least, so I know what happened and why.. or is that forbidden knowledge too?

    Thanks.

  12. It's amazing that everything ELSE about that Atari 2600jr (OF MINE) work just beautifully and great.

Assuming your paddles are not defective, it's actually quite common for the inputs' solder joints on the Atari PCB need to be resoldered. Even just one bad pin could cause the problem you're experiencing...

Hm, perhaps you didn't read thoroughly. I just told that the paddles work (two different paddles, not just the one set of paddles - one is by Commodore, one is by Atari) -- the both sets of paddles work in a C64, a C64C, Atari 2600 (Darth Vader) - but neither of them work at all with the Atari 2600jr that I have.

I can't solder.. so that Atari 2600jr of mine will remain as it is for the rest of it's life (unless it gets even more broken).

But it's hopefully going to be fixed by the NTSC Atari anyway - that should support paddles, so it's no biggie. It's just the waiting that always gets to me, heh..

Thanks for the help and diagnosis anyway!

  13. I guess the misunderstandings here come from when I said that I am going to test another Atari, if that works. Well, I didn't mean another MODEL of Atari, I mean another Atari INDIVIDUAL of the SAME model :)

I mean, I am hoping to receive another Atari 2600jr, this time an NTSC machine, so I hope the paddles work with that one.

    - Monk

  14. (too bad my Atari 2600jr doesn't support paddles.. oh well, trying to get another Atari in hopes it would)

2600jr. does indeed support paddles (wouldn't really be an Atari, now would it? lol) Just make sure they're plugged into the 1st player controller port...

    Yes, I said _MY_ Atari 2600jr. I didn't say THE Atari 2600jr.

And duh, of course I tested both paddles in both ports, and plugged them very thoroughly, even tried plugging them more gently and not as deeply and every damn thing, believe me, I tried everything.

It's amazing that everything ELSE about that Atari 2600jr (OF MINE) work just beautifully and great.

    - Monk

  15. But I digress; I would very much like to know also if there are any PADDLE-2D-games.. perhaps Pong? Hmm, I can't find 'Pong' in my collections for some reason.. was it ever made for Atari 2600? I mean, paddle games are great, but Paddle-2D-games could be really neat :)

(too bad my Atari 2600jr doesn't support paddles.. oh well, trying to get another Atari in hopes it would)

    - Monk

You mean Paddle "2P" games (2D is most commonly used for "Two dimensional")?

Yes. A mental typo, sorry.. so used to writing D right after the 2, that my fingers seem to do it automatically now.. :)

Warlords was mentioned (which is playable up to four players). Pong is on 2600 with a ton of two player variations. The 2600 version is called Video Olympics or Pong Sports (Sears published version. Same game, different name). Some other 2P paddle games are Breakout, Demons to Diamonds, Marble Craze (homebrew), and Canyon Bomber.

I find it odd that the 2600jr wouldn't support paddles. I used to have a Jr. and the paddles worked fine. Maybe the paddles are broken?

Yep, the paddles work just fine (both of them) with three DIFFERENT machines (two of which are C64's), so if the trouble is with paddles, it's odd that it's the exact SAME symptoms with both of them, and also that they are BOTH broken in such a weird way that they work in three separate machines (one of which is an Atari 2600), but not with that Atari 2600jr..

I think there is either bug, feature, fault, failure or broken part in the Atari 2600jr that I have, which simply stops the paddles from working.. but I am going to get an NTSC Atari 2600jr anyway, so hopefully that supports paddles (I am getting this so the colors in Pitfall and other games can finally look good.. I mean, I do like the 'golden spaceship' in Cosmic Ark, but I would also like the option of seeing the game as it was MEANT to be seen..)..

Thanks for the quick responses by the way!

  16.

Classic-era titles: Demons to Diamonds, Fishing Derby, Freeway, Frogs and Flies, Indy 500, Joust, Maze Craze, Sprintmaster, Star Wars: Jedi Arena, Surround, Wizard of Wor

Oooh, how could I have ever forgotten to mention Frogs and Flies! That's one of my favorites too, ahh. A great, great game. It plays much better than some other versions of it - I mean, the Atari version looks and plays the best. Increased resolution doesn't mean increased visual quality.. (I could write some kind of essay of how 'less detailed' graphics provoke the imagination and thus 'look better'..)

Thanks for this list btw, I am saving it and planning to test every game.. I didn't even know Joust was a 2-player game, I must test that too (fortunetaly I have that one in my small collection).

(too bad my Atari 2600jr doesn't support paddles.. oh well, trying to get another Atari in hopes it would)

By "doesn't support", do you mean that the Atari is damaged? I hadn't heard of any issues with the 2600 Jr. not supporting paddles.

Well, I have no way of knowing that. I only have one Atari 2600jr, and it doesn't support Paddles. My estimation is that it's probably damaged, as I have tried two separate paddles (one from Commodore, one from Atari) that BOTH function perfectly in my two separate Commodore 64's (older and newer) and my mom's Atari 2600 (Darth Vader version).

So the diagnosis is just that that particular Atari 2600jr individual just doesn't seem to support paddles (I only have one paddle-game to test with though, Circus Atari, which is one of my favorite games, so it's a bit frustrating).

I can't know of course, if someone making that Atari just decided to be evil and not include the paddle support or something, so technically it wouldn't be 'damaged'.. hehe. Thus my generalized term; it just doesn't support them and that's that.

  17. The only good ones I have found are like Basketball, Bowling, Boxing, Hockey and Tennis.

Would you guys be able to tell me what are the best multiplayer games ever made? I would like a co-op type game but I know these older games focus more on fighting each other.

Hey there. Well, I am kind of an Atari 2600-newbie, as I haven't owned a real Atari 2600 for a very long time. But am planning to, heh. So my knowledge on such matters is very limited so far. I have been wondering that same question myself though.. but I can recommend a few (though I don't know what you mean by 'good', heh)..

Realsports Tennis (I wasn't sure if this was what you meant because there are at least two different Tennis-games for Atari, probably even more - but this is the a bit more elaborate one with the proper scoring system, greenish field (at least in PAL version), and just wonderful gameplay)

    Combat (the tank game)

    Space War (simple but nice)

Realsports Volleyball (this is actually very intense game!)

Then there are games which I don't know the names of, because I only have that 32-in-1 pack.. it has a few nice two-player games, like one where you have two cannons and are trying to shoot airplanes and helicopters and such. Then there is the Parachuting game, but I don't know the name of that either. You try to land on a pad, taking wind into account and the time when you open your parachute.. simple but actually can get a bit complicated anyway :)

I just wanted to reply because no one seemed to have replied so far.. I am sure there will be better replies than mine, from the old beards who know more what they are talking about than me, but I thought it's nicer to get at least one reply than nothing.

It does seem that the one-player games are a big majority with the Atari 2600 though.. for me it's ok, because I like one-player games a lot, two-player games many times seem kinda simplistic and I hate trying to 'compete' against someone I like. It's no fun winning and causing bad feelings to a good friend, and also it's no parade to lose either..

Besides, in one-player games your imagination becomes more activated, as there aren't disturbances, and you can focus on being one with the game better.. (Atari 2600 games certainly provoke the imagination, which is why their graphics are actually more pleasing to me than modern game graphics (even if we compare to the beautiful 3D games, and not the nowadays-so-usual ugly ones - and by beautiful, I mean things like Dreamcast version of Soul Calibur)... my imagination gets involved in creating the graphics and story, and thus produces much better visuals than a boring, earthly 3D-engine ever can.

  18. I am heading out to ship the first batch right now. I am shipping all of the standard edition carts with USA addresses. I will ship the international standard edition carts later today after I pick up a stack of customs forms and mailers.

Unfortunately, only a handful of Deluxe editions will go out today as I have only have a few USB cables - I expected them yesterday, but according to USPS tracking, I may not get them today, either :(

This is wonderful news, oh exalted and ever-respected bringer of Joy!

But I have one request - please make sure you also get enough rest and recreation in addition to your hard work.. just to avoid too much stress and all. This is the most stressful time of the year anyway, and this enormous and demanding task you have undertaken might be adding to the usual seasonal stress otherwise.

I mean, I don't mind if you have to postpone sending my Harmony Cart (Standard edition) a bit to get some rest and fun, relaxation and just goofing off also so there is balance in all this.

I think I speak for all of us when I say we really appreciate your hard work, but that we also care for your health and your OWN fun, and are touched by all your effort to bring others so much greatness for such a little profit for yourself (if any)!

I personally wish you merry wintertime and lots of fun and joy!

    Sincerely,

    - Monk

  19. I finally got it paid because of a couple of friendly souls that were kind enough to donate me a great christmas gift of one euro! (:

But I guess I forgot to mention I wanted a STANDARD edition. Though from the paid price, it should be obvious. So, one Standard for me, thanks, I have paid it already.

This is great, now I can start circling around the apartment waiting nervously (:

Thank you for all of your hard work, mr. Batari! And may your christmas holidays and the year transformation phase bring you joy and inner contentment of life!

    - Monk

  20. I got the email too! Very excited about it..

But I am writing here instead of paying and jumping up and down for joy because I am missing 80 cents in my Paypal account! Seems I mis-estimated the total price a bit, and now I have to wait for many days until Paypal receives the 80 cents! What rotten luck to be SO close, and yet so far...

Argh! Well, patience builds patience.. so, mr. Batari - sorry for the delay!

    - Monk

  21. I'm on the pre-order list but I haven't heard anything about how to order and where to send payment. what do I do?

I have a bit similar situation, except that I have got the confirmation email. This has reassured me that I will be getting the Harmony Cart payment information etc. in due time, with some patience. My patience skills need honing anyway, so I am just trying to focus on interesting other things until I get the payment info-email, then I plan to pay immediately so I can start walking nervously around until my footsteps burn a hole in the floor mat.

I am sure mr. Batari got more work on his hands than he thought he would have, because such an enormous interest in his liberating product.. so it will take awhile, I presume. No news is good news, it means something is happening.. I would be actually more worried if he was here typing all the time, hehe.

I am sure by Christmas we all will have the payment information, and many of us will probably also have the Harmony Cartridge as well (although as I understand it, many already do!)..

We just have to be patient, understand the enormous task that Batari has undertaken, find deep appreciation of all his work and feel good that people like him exist.. perhaps send him some encouraging and appreciative, thankful thoughts..

  22. I have finally caught up on all of my preorder list confirmation emails. If you asked to be added to the list and never got an email, check your spam folders (I sent a bulk-reply with lots of email addresses, which might trigger spam filters.)

    Thank you for your patience!

Got my confirmation email just fine! Thank you so much, now it's so much easier to sleep at night (-8 Woohoo!

Great, great stuff, can't wait to be able to purcahse it and start waiting for it's arrival, hehe! Thank you, mr. Batari, I am very grateful and appreciative of all your hard work, hassle and trouble that you are going through. Also I am thankful for your loyalty to your customers and all in all making this great product so people might have more joy in their lives.

    Thank you indeed, Mr. Batari!

  23. Sent e-mail for Standard Edition. Excited.

I do wonder if the period is supposed to be part of the subject line.

I worried about that too. I sent my mail the same day this thread appeared, with the period at the end of the subject line. When batari sent out the first batch of confirmations, I got mine.

But I suspect he's not relying on the period being there.

So you used a period and got a confirmation. I didn't use a period and didn't (yet) receive a confirmation. Perhaps there is a connection here? Agh! I will send it again WITH a period, just to make sure ( I actually contemplated on this before sending the first confirmation post, but then I thought it'd be silly to use a period in the end, and that he couldn't have meant that.. but perhaps he did!)

If I get a confirmation, I could come here and inform you all, just so you know there period is supposed to be there or something.. (-8

  24. This thread IS the list. :)

Oh.. I thought it'd be some kind of more handy list of names, a -confirmation- list of whether you are accepted in the list or not, or if your requests are even acknowledged in any way whatsoever.. (like, this thread being more like a 'request-list' and not a 'confirmation-list')

I mean, that kind of assurance would lift many people's spirits, I am sure. To have a confirmation that you are actually on the list, and that all the details for payment and eventually the Harmony Cartridge itself will be sent to you - well, that just makes it a lot easier to just sit and wait.. (also seeing your position on the list would make longer waits more understandable, etc.)

An exciting product like this is surely going to make many people jump up and down out of sheer joy! I know I'm gonna be one of those people..

  25. Please put me down for STANDARD EDITION, I have sent you an email about this, according to the instructions. I have not received, however, any kind of reply or confirmation.

Is this normal? Am I still on the list? Where IS the list, so we can all check it out? I guess I am just too impatient.. but I fixed my paypal account, so that now I am all ready to go, just have to know how much, what account to pay into and some confirmation that you are going to send it to me and I'm set for waiting for that little treasure..

This is going to be something really great.. can hardly wait!

    - Monk
