A complete guide to Ballblazer and some info on Ballblaster http://atariteca.blogspot.com/2009/12/ballblazer.html
- Y -
Thank you all!!!! Have played it now with this knowledge! Appears to be a very nice game. Very addictive if you would ask me.
Now time for bed.... But tomorrow;
BALLBLAZER!
Thank you again for some needed help!

Perhaps my question should have been: which games can be considered as "modern" 8-bit classics?. For me, some Lucasfilms games -like Ballblazer and The Eidolon- can be called 8-bit classics.

Hi folks,
Which games could be considered as the "new" Atari 8-bit classics? His Dark Majesty, Marbled, Yoomp! and Space Harrier come to my mind.

Canabalt ended up being Line Runner. Cold case.

Will this game finally see the light of the day in 2013?

Any news about this project?

Thanks a lot! I´ve just updated the article. However, I would like to know how to load bin, rom and cart files (for XL/XE carts).
Sad to say, I don´t have a 5200 ROM...
- Y -
I can answer some of those...
To use the keyboard as a joystick:
i) Press F1 to get to menu
ii) Select 'joystick' on the left.
iii) Select 'KeypadStick.0' from the right.
To redefine the keyboard joystick buttons to the cursor keys:
i) Press F1 to get to the menu
ii) Sleect 'KeypadStick' on the left
iii) On the right in 'Up' enter 'Cursor Up'
iv) In 'Down' enter 'Cursor Down'
v) In 'Left' enter 'Cursor Left'
vi) In 'Right' enter 'Cursor Right'
vii) In 'LeftButton' enter your fire button - e.g. 'Space' or 'a' etc.
To load 5200 files:
i) Press F1 to get to menu
ii) Select 'Machine' on left
iii) Select 5200 on right (If it will not select ensure there is a 5200 OS rom in 'OsROM')
iv) Select 'Cartridge' on left
v) Enter a 5200 file into 'CartPath'
v) May need to select one of the cartridge size boxes - e.g. for 'Missile Command' I needed 32K and for 'Asteroids' I needed '32KEE16'.
For 5200 controls I'm a bit less sure. I tried using an analog joystick then selecting it in vertical/horizontal in paddle. I didn't have much luck controlling missile command but I think that may be due to the controller I'm using.
For xex files just select them in the disk image and reboot.

I have finally realized how to use this emulator. So I decided to write a short guide (in spanish): http://atariteca.blo...ador-atari.html
Though, I´m yet to learn how to load cartridges and A5200 files. Also, how to reconfigure the keyboard so the arrow keys can be used as the joystick. The included manual is not so user-friendly from my humble point of view.
Finally, is it possible to run xex files?

You can find all the codes/key combinations here:
http://atariteca.blogspot.com/2012/12/passwords-de-nivel-de-ridiculous-reality.html
The trick is as follows: Keep pressed Shift and input the rest of the keystrokes, without any pause. Like Adam said, it´s a continuos flow -as if playing the piano.
Tested in emulator and works fine.

The scroll doesn't mention trainer options at all, or have I missed sth?
And coming back to the RR itself and code-system... It's evil
The code I screenshoted above is already too difficult to type in, what keys should be pressed together and why? Tried it, based on the description in manual and still failed. It was supposed to be help, but this "idea" of level codes (and need to type them all in sequence - no direct jump to level X or whatever) is quite overthought.
Don't get me wrong, game is great, but functionality of codes is not helpful, in fact a bit irritating

-
Intriguing: What does "HAR`em" mean?
-
So, how does this apply to Zybex, Super Cobra and the others? If you can be a little more specific, I could update the post in my blog.
BTW, great work!

So, here is the guide (in Spanish): http://atariteca.blogspot.com/2012/10/participar-en-high-score-de-jugadores.html
What I´m due to understand is the tokens system. Perhaps someone can explain it a little.

Finally! This weekend I will write the guide. Anyway, where can people download the right ATR game files?

-
when I explore the disk properties using Altirra I get a message the file system on this disk is damaged and has been mounted as read-only to prevent further damage.
Altirra version 2.10
Same here. Using ver 2.2
-
Very kind of you... but got the following error messages when trying to delete de PLAYER,DAT with the Explore option,

So I´m not allowed to remove the PLAYER.DTA file

-
Gimme detail steps in order to add the dta file and we´ll be speaking.
-
In Windows I use Aspeqt to mount the ATR.
http://sourceforge.n...rojects/aspeqt/
Mount or drag and drop atr in D1: or any of the Drives
Show D1's Properties
Select MyDos for the File System
From there I can copy in or out the Player.dta file.
And then commit changes
For me this is the easy way.
For some reason when I Explore the disk properties using Altirra I get a message the file system on this disk is damaged and has been mounted as read-only to prevent further damage.

To tell the truth, I never expected to have more than five steps in order to have this working. I even planned to write a guide (in Spanish) on how to do it, but this goes far beyond my humble knowledge (and limited patience).

Ach! ok. now I know...
> The file I downloaded (for Zybex) is named: PLAYER506a0d5559a07.dta
1. rename to PLAYER.DTA
2. copy personalized PLAYER.DTA (using e.g. makeATR) to disk zybex-hsc.atr
3. play / reset
4. extract PLAYER.DTA from disk zybex-hsc.atr
5. upload it.
If you have some good result you can upgrade it repeating 4. and 5.
until I don't have a datamatrix library for atari procedures seems complicated

> But according to the web page my record is http://atari.pl/hsc/1up.php?i=12.3
That stuff of copying the player.dta file to the ATR using makeATR and then extracting it is chinese to me... thanks anyway for your help.

I played, reseted the emulator (f5) and uploaded the .dta file to the website. But according to the web page my record is http://atari.pl/hsc/1up.php?i=12.3 ... BTW, I noticed the player.dta is not being updated despite I followed the indications -the game´s ATR is being re-written/saved instead:

-
> I renamed it to player.dta.
webscript generates proper player.dta, there is no need to change names or ext
> Now let me know if it is still necessary to convert it using the makeATR program.
makeAtr is not intended to convert data.
The file I downloaded (for Zybex) is named: PLAYER506a0d5559a07.dta
-
Yes, the name of the file is right. I renamed it to player.dta. Now let me know if it is still necessary to convert it using the makeATR program. I was reviewing the videos posted at the beginning of this thread and noticed all have the same "anonymous" player.

-
Ok. I created the user, the DAT file and downloaded it. But, before and after playing, the program still reads as Player: Anonymous.
