The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
icemanxp300 replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yea, but man he was really slamming me. He was making me give him $5 here and there for a clump of sports games that had zero value. He literally made me offer on handfuls of games and sat there with a pad and paper writing everything down. He was kinda annoyimg me to the point of practically making me buy the stuff i didn't want. So I lowballed him on a few items to make up for the crap that has zero value he was pretty much forcing me to give him $$ for. Fact is I was going to offer what I wanted lol not what he wanted me to. It was kind of a weird scenario and in the end it was more like $426 he wanted but lucky for me I only brought $400 with me. Which $400 is max I would have paid for this lot. -

icemanxp300's collection updated 5-14-13
icemanxp300 replied to icemanxp300's topic in Show Us Your Collection!
I don't have the room anymore to display everything the way I would like. That room you see is the only place I can store games and as you can see, the walls are lined w/games. I could swap things around but it is kind of in a theme, right now for the most part. Anyhow a new controller I just got today (already had 1) I'm gonna keep them both I think. How many times do you get to see two of these together. -

Why would someone complain on a daily basis on what other people feel items are worth? On a side note, are you interested in trades? Got pics? -
What are you playing on 3DS?
icemanxp300 replied to ComputerSpaceFan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Mario Kart 7 is reason enough to own a 3ds. That games is AWESOME!!! If you liked the 64 version which I love, this mario kart is a must. Like mentioned the multi never gets old.It even has balloon battle and uses maps from all the previous Mario Karts. I'm currrently rocking new super mario bros 2 like no tomorrow. Mario 3d land was good and I have a short downloaded game from the shop Called Metal Torrent. It's a pretty sweet schmup if you like those. I think it's $4.99 but I got mine for a 150 coins some time ago when they offered it. -

Yea it's the Banana tip. Now I have 2 I'm pretty sure every 64 controller that has the red DK on it is a banana tip. Debating if I want to sell one. Odds are I'll toss it in my cabinet, it's always nice to have a set lol. -

So got a call about 2 hrs ago from a person who grabbed my number from my craigslist add. They said they had a bunch of games at the garage sale and asked if I wanted to come and see what they had. I was like Oh yeah!! Long story short I told them I would tell them what I thought I could sell stuff for and offer around half. When I told them the donkey kong controller was worth at least $50 they flipped and thanked me for being honest. Which I just checked and it looks like it's more like $75 now. They had other stuff, xbox, ps1, and new skins for ps3, and new stuff. I said I couldn't value it and don't deal in that stuff. Long story short. We agreed on $130 for what was in the pic, but I didn't have that much. All I had was $106 on me. They said just take it :-) -

He is on the site. I don't know whats considered a "regular". He's been a member since 2008 and before his sale thread, I don't think he has posted in the forums if he did it wasnt morer than a few post. However according to AL and a few others he has made many deals, so he must use pm's quite a bit? -

icemanxp300 replied to icemanxp300's topic in Hardware
I can try the tape, but man those switches are small. It might be better than the super glue so I can do a dry fit against the atari stick to make sure switches are placed properly before they are soldered. I know one thing next time I do it I'm only soldering one leg on each switch and doing a test fit. That way if it needs moved it will be alot easier to heat up the one joint and desolder it, than fighting w/2 joints. Thanks for the input. I think the gamestop guy was pretty much saying as you add the solder removge the iron away at same time, real fast kind of deal. I'm gonna see if it works, but if not I'll just hold it there the entire time. For that matter I think I would do better and cleaner sucking the solder off the tip for such a small connection. Even though that is "improper". -

Man sometimes you guys just say stuff that has no relevance to the conversation at all. No, no I didn't dodge a bullet. Dodging a bullet would imply I had involvement with this thing, when fact is I had no desire to even place a $1 bid on this item. -

Like Is aid "IF" I made repro carts I would. Fact is even if I made repro carts it's a losing investment as $10,000 is too much to pay for a repro profit, especially since it's already being repro'd. -

Wouldn't have on me I would have and still would repro that bad boy if I did that stuff. Except I wouldn't do pre-order. I'd just make them and sell them. -
Just browsing walmart and a new wii w/nsmb is in a bundle for $150!!! I would definitely use that as a bargaining tool on a used wii set if you go that route! The system w/ brand new $50 game for $150 that pretty much makes a new wii $100

What solder gun /kit do you recommend for a beginner?
icemanxp300 replied to icemanxp300's topic in Hardware
I just got back from my local gamestore and the guy was telling me I wa soldering wrong. He said it is better to apply heat to the joint, remove the iron and then touch with solder. He said by me holding the iron there and applying the solder it will ruin the tip and it's harder. On a side note those switches are so tiny and a pain to keep in place would it be bad if I used a small amount of super glue on the bottom (maybe a corner) to make sure it is in proper place before I solder it or would the glue be bad on the board? -

Success!!!! I decided to go get some desoldering ribbon stuff and ended up w/ a stupid desoldring iron that works like crap. I think I will return it. I did get the switch moved and finally got everything grinded down. The controller works sweet. Takes no pressure at all to move. Pacman plays sweet The clicky sound is pretty cool. Thanks for the help guys! -

Ok well I just folded up the ajacent leads regardless. Not too bad. Thge switches all work and have continuity. The only problem I have is top switch for up is too high by a spec. I need to go get something now to get that solder off them joints and bring it down a bit. Soldering those was a bit harder than I thought LOL. Overall I'm happy with it. Ok tell me how it looks, what could be better. Thanks. -

Ok guys got my tactile switches in today and they appear to be good quality. Time to get ready for my 1st soldering job!! I have a question 1st. In the video below he talks about needing to bend or remove the opposite legs that will not be used. Can someone explain this to me, because it makes no sense to me how it can short and what not. By all rights once the button is pushed the connection is going to be made, whats it matter if it is made by 3 points or 1? I really don't understand the reasoning as to why he is saying those legs need removed. The one leg is going to be soldered to the connection point regardless so whats it matter if the other two are touching? The connection isn't going to happen until that button is pushed. Fast forward to 8 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cRIFhsMSTU -
