600XL with red screen of death - anyone need parts?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
OK guys... reseated the OS and RAM chips and still nothing... any more ideas? I don't have a lot to steal parts from for testing purposes... I'd rather not mess with my 800XL. Roger -
600XL with red screen of death - anyone need parts?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I'm out of time right now, so when I get home from work (tomorrow morning), I'll try that with the OS ROM and report my findings. I appreciate your assistance with this... Later, Roger -
600XL with red screen of death - anyone need parts?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Upon closer inspection, one of the RAM chips wasn't all the way seated... needless to say, I was pretty excited at the notion that this was the problem. I pulled it out (that sounded weird) and reseated it... I checked all of the other chips and they looked good. After re-assembling everything and turning it back on... the screen is now black (instead of red) Roger -
600XL with red screen of death - anyone need parts?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Both of my keyboards have the mylar ribbon that goes right into the MB. After taking the shield off, there are a ton of chips in there... I'm not sure which is which Roger -
From reading some other posts, I am thinking that the red screen means dead RAM? With this in mind, I am assuming that no one would want this for anything other than spare parts? Just curious but my CAPS key on my 800XL is broken, could I swap keyboards with the 600XL (are they exactly the same)? Thanks, Roger

Anyone have one of these for sale? Needs to be extra clean (no scratches or breaks, etc.) Thanks, Roger

Atari 8-bit games for sale or trade
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I have a 1050... mainly looking to sell this one but I would listen to trade offers for a couple of joysticks or some carts. Thanks -
Here's what I have left over from a lot I recently purchased. I will add/send pics if needed. Looking for cash offers or trade for Atari 8-bit carts/software: - Here's a Gemstik joystick too. Works perfectly and the only cosmetic flaw is that the silver paint on the name has rubbed off (on the "G")... see pic below. Sorry, everything else sold Thanks, Roger

Best way to hook up an 800XL to a modern TV?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
OK, so it sounds like I need a "monitor-to-S-video cable"... can anyone direct me to a "good" one? Thanks, Roger -
I'd rather not do any soldering for the S-video mod so what is my next best choice? What cable would I need too? Thanks, Roger

Indus GT drive error - H3 - what does this mean?!?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
What exactly is that and how would I fix it? Thanks, Roger U19 and U23 are 2 74LS244 chips on the main-board, they might be soldered in. a 74LS244 is an octal buffer/line driver, it is for buffering signals usually. the 2 that Trub mention are for: (U19) buffering the Atari port signals and IRQ/DRQ signals internally (to the data bus). if that chip has failed you can get the H3 (Halt in test 3) error code (U23) sits between the 4 config switches on the back and the data-bus and the front panel switches and the data bus. by sits between I mean electrically. have you taken a meter and checked the voltages at the powersupply conection? if it is too far out of spec it can cause odd behavior. if it is the disk controller, I forget exactly which one the indus uses, but if that is bad, it's a chip swap to repair the problem. I've fixed several 1050's that way, swapping the FDC chip and RIOT. also, what part of the country or world are you located in, there may be someone near by that can swap parts / fix it for you. I'm near Dallas, TX. Thanks -

I read that but it doesn't say how to fix it Roger -

Indus GT drive error - H3 - what does this mean?!?
dafivehole replied to dafivehole's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
That's what I thought it might mean This doesn't sound like an easy solution though... are there any "resident experts" on the Indus GT out there?!? I might have to bite the bullet and try to sell it for parts if the repair is too pricey or complex. Thanks, Roger -
The manual doesn't list "H" as a possible option when reading the error codes. Does anyone know what this error means? Thanks, Roger UPDATE: upon doing a search in this forum, I found a post from 2004 and the person states that this means: "The drive failed the floppy disk controller test." Ummm, is there anyone that knows how to fix this or can help me get this rectified?!? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Here's a pic of what I'm looking for: The Wico stick is hard to find (at least for me now)... I had bought this in Canada so I don't know if that makes a difference Thanks, Roger
-
OK, thanks to LYNXGUY, I got almost all of the software and manuals. I am still missing the following (can anyone help me out here?): - Indus GT Data Spreadsheet Disk (aka GT Albert E.Spread Sheet disk). - Indus Master Disk with Synchromesh (this might go with a certain version of the drive, so I'm not 100% sure that I need it but I would still like to have it). Looking for original software and manuals, please. Thanks, Roger

You da man Gary

You are exactly right! If anyone has a "spare" copy, I'd love to get ahold of one Roger

Not sure what the pink ponderer meant, but here was my attempt at trying to fix this 1050 in the 8bit forum. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/162785-problem-with-1050-drive-boot-error/page__gopid__2009634 The was in regards to the "modem" reference...

There's an original copy of S.A.M. on the 'bay right now but the seller wants like $50 or $60 for it Roger

Your favourite C64 games?
dafivehole replied to Pyromaniac605's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I had an Atari but a friend of mine had a C64 and we played with this program that would actually say whatever you typed... I think it was called SAM I guess back then, it was pretty fun Roger -
Must be clean and working perfectly If you have the manual/box, that would be cool but it's not a must. Thanks, Roger UPDATE: every picture I've seen of this Wico stick seems to come from Canada... oddly enough, that's where I lived when I got mine!
-
Anyone? Thanks, Roger
-
doctor_x They say that timing is everything I think I paid too much more my Indus but if I can complete it with software and manuals, I guess I can live with that. Thanks, Roger
