I'd rather not do any soldering for the S-video mod so what is my next best choice? What cable would I need too?
Thanks,
Roger

I would try replacing 74LS244 (U19) first. It often goes bad in Indus (as well as U23).
What exactly is that and how would I fix it?
Thanks,
Roger
U19 and U23 are 2 74LS244 chips on the main-board, they might be soldered in. a 74LS244 is an octal buffer/line driver, it is for buffering signals usually. the 2 that Trub mention are for: (U19) buffering the Atari port signals and IRQ/DRQ signals internally (to the data bus). if that chip has failed you can get the H3 (Halt in test 3) error code
(U23) sits between the 4 config switches on the back and the data-bus and the front panel switches and the data bus.
by sits between I mean electrically.
have you taken a meter and checked the voltages at the powersupply conection? if it is too far out of spec it can cause odd behavior.
if it is the disk controller, I forget exactly which one the indus uses, but if that is bad, it's a chip swap to repair the problem. I've fixed several 1050's that way, swapping the FDC chip and RIOT.
also, what part of the country or world are you located in, there may be someone near by that can swap parts / fix it for you.
I'm near Dallas, TX.
Thanks

I read that but it doesn't say how to fix it

That's what I thought it might mean
This doesn't sound like an easy solution though... are there any "resident experts" on the Indus GT out there?!?
I might have to bite the bullet and try to sell it for parts if the repair is too pricey or complex.

Roger

The manual doesn't list "H" as a possible option when reading the error codes. Does anyone know what this error means?
Thanks,
Roger

UPDATE: upon doing a search in this forum, I found a post from 2004 and the person states that this means:
"The drive failed the floppy disk controller test."
Ummm, is there anyone that knows how to fix this or can help me get this rectified?!? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

OK, thanks to LYNXGUY, I got almost all of the software and manuals. I am still missing the following (can anyone help me out here?):
- Indus GT Data Spreadsheet Disk (aka GT Albert E.Spread Sheet disk).
- Indus Master Disk with Synchromesh (this might go with a certain version of the drive, so I'm not 100% sure that I need it but I would still like to have it).
Looking for original software and manuals, please.
Thanks,
Roger

TRBB,
S.A.M. - Software Automated Mouth (I might have the second word wrong) was a disk-based bit of software that added speech capabilities to the A8. This is probably what is being referred to in the post.
You are exactly right! If anyone has a "spare" copy, I'd love to get ahold of one

I can also throw in a 1050 modem that doesn't appear to be reading the disks properly (boot errors), but it powers on and tries to read the disk.
Not sure what the pink ponderer meant, but here was my attempt at trying to fix this 1050 in the 8bit forum.

The
was in regards to the "modem" reference... -
Hi guys! ok - maybe this has been asked before but I'm gonna give it a go anyway - I'm gonna ask people to submit a list of their top 10 games for the Atari 8-bit machines - the format (cart, disk, tape etc) dont matter - just like to hear your opinions and maybe I can get some ideas for expanding my freshly started game library! (recently returned to Atari 8-bit after owning one in mid-80s - bit of "re-living my youth!"). I'll kick off with ten of my favourite games (bound to get ripped to shreds by hardcore Atarians though!) - here goes nothing! :
1. Ghostbusters
2. Spy vs Spy 2
3. Jet boot Jack
4. Jet set willy (yes, I know its a poor conversion!)
5. The last Starfighter
6. S.A.M (anybody got a copy of this for sale?)
7. Spellbound
8. Whirlinurd
9. Beer belly Burt in Brew biz
10. Red moon
There ya go guys - let me know ya thoughts on my list (good or bad!) - and submit your own lists and I'll see about adding one of two of the games to my collection. Many thanks everybody! Keep it Atari!
There's an original copy of S.A.M. on the 'bay right now but the seller wants like $50 or $60 for it

I had an Atari but a friend of mine had a C64 and we played with this program that would actually say whatever you typed... I think it was called SAM

I guess back then, it was pretty fun

Must be clean and working perfectly

If you have the manual/box, that would be cool but it's not a must.
Thanks,
Roger
UPDATE: every picture I've seen of this Wico stick seems to come from Canada... oddly enough, that's where I lived when I got mine!

Anyone?
Thanks,

They say that timing is everything
I think I paid too much more my Indus but if I can complete it with software and manuals, I guess I can live with that. Thanks,
Roger

WOW, that's awesome! Please keep me updated...
Thank you,
Roger

Thanks for the link. Instead of making a new post, I will ask this question in this one...
Does anyone have a set of original Indus GT software and manuals that they could part with (sell)?
Thanks again,
Roger

Where, oh where, could he be

Well, I just got my supposed MINT complete Indus GT over the weekend and the only disk that it came with is the DOS XL disk... can anyone tell me exactly which ones came with the drive originally? And, of course, where I can get the other ones?!?
Thanks,
Roger

I sent mine yesterday but still no reply

PM sent.

Best way to hook up an 800XL to a modern TV?

OK, so it sounds like I need a "monitor-to-S-video cable"... can anyone direct me to a "good" one?
Thanks,
