  1. Thanks so much man! Well, that was easy enough! getting it from console 5
  2. Hi, new to this topic... How does one go about purchasing a screen mod for the Lynx? Thanks all!
  3. I want the case, just not sure if I have the Lynx 1 or 2, so not sure if it would fit, I read at the beginning if the thread we could request the case but not glued? sorry if I misunderstood
  4. So, how do I get my hands in one of these? Sorry, been away from the retro gaming community for a while and kinda lost touch with all the developments
  5. Hi, Could I please be put on thew waiting list for a cart with cover but unglued? Thanks for the great work!
  6. Several issues. First, the Jag code was a mix of assembly and C, and the compiler used was done in-house by ID. The tools for recompiling were lost for some time. Also, the WADs are in a different format to those of the PC. The source for Jag Doom has been out for years and this is the first that has been done with it. If it was easy, we would have seen something before now. It's not "just a matter of changing a few textures". Stephen Anderson AH ha! I knew that had to been something, that's why I asked first! Cudos to you sir!!
  7. Here is why I asked... from what I remember, and I've done plenty of this; Making Doom mods was a snap, crap I'd do them just because I was bored and had nothing better to do, took me from 2-6 hours to make a MOD, I worked on total conversion packeges for doom which didn't take more then 3 months, from concept to working game, and this is all people doing that on their spare time. So, don't get me wrong here, but I don't see what's the big deal of changing a couple of textures, cerating a character and making different objects, that's the kind of stuff I used to do in a matter of hours.. Were the tools lost or something? There were tons of tools available to unpack WAD files, to re-crompres them, and endless turorials which were very well documented; I probably still have the MOD's and tools I used on my server somewhere... And that's why I asked if somehow, on the JAG, these files were encrypted/locked or just different somehow which makes creating mods so hard...
  8. Completely honest question guys.. Is the doom engine/game that different on the JAG then it was on the PC? It it locked or something? I'll wait for replies before making any comments...
  9. uhhh.. What's the url for this site? I found another site which is asking $89 for the base unit $200 for the jag cd, and the cheapest game is $39 with aVp being $99!?
  10. HA! I HEAR you guys! (drum roll ) I actually got a tape drive with the package too!! It has one tape, I'll try it out... I never had an Atari back in the day, but yeah, loading tapes into my CoCo was a lot of "fun"!! Thanks again guys
  11. Thanks a ton guys!! So my atari 8 bit adventure starts!! I don't mind the key cick sound, but the loading is a little much! I really love the Spectrum click, there's something so soothing about it Happy new year all!!
  12. A ha!! Thanks man!! Also, another little question... Any way to stop the beeping sound when the programs are loading? Kinda anoying...
  13. Sorry guys, yeah I could look it up, but it's a bit of a wierd problem, for me, and until I found a way to search the whole afternoon would be gone! So, I got my 130xe with a 1050 disk drive, and a whole bunch of floppies.. Here's my problem As far as I can see these disk are bootable (most of them are actually originals!), some of them boot just fine, but others, let's say "SpyXSpy" complains that it needs 48k ram and asks me to remove the cartrige? The 130XE is a 128k machine, correct? I know that's bank switched, but it should have at least 64k avaible, right? Besides, why would this guy have these many 48k disks if he wasn't able to run them? What am I doing wrong?
  14. Alright dudes!! Sorry for starting a flame war The offer is out there, for whenever anybody feels like taking it up. I can do Models/textures/animations and Sound design, sound track and Sound FX's That's all
  15. I'm trying to figure you guys out, really, I am. What else do you do with a dead console? You try to make it do things it wasn't intended to do! That's why people make NIC's for Apple II's, and why I can actually "surf the web" with my IIGS There's no real point in doing it, although in the NIC instance it's nice to have a way to connect the AII to my PC to transfer files; We do it because it's fun to see these older computers pushed to their absolute limits... specifically on the Tomb raider thing... I happen to like the games, but that's besides the point. We didn't have to call it Tomb raider, you now? If you just call it something different, don't copy the stories + models exactly you'd have no problem with licensing.. Also, why is this thread such a slap n the face for any developer? Are there still active developers for the Jag? Are there commercial games available for it? Please do correct me if I'm wrong... It's great that somebody put so much time on a renderer for the Jag, but why isn't that available to the comunity? Again, can one still profit from it? Example: Just yesterday I was playing "Donkey Kong" and "Gate crasher" on my CoCo3, they were both programmed by the same guy, he was able to replicate the arcade version of Donkey Kong on the CoCo! Is there a point to that? Not really any other then to see if it could be done, it's a brilliant piece of code, seeing that the CoCo3 is infinitely inferior to the arcade machine; Gate crasher is a doom style game, again, what the real point in that? No other then to see if the CoCo could handle a doom 3d style renderer, he distributed both his engine and games for free, because who the heck would buy it? I don't know guys, guess I'm just used to a sense of comunity when it comes to vintage computers... We do it because we love it, kinda thing, you know? Gorf: I know modelers are a dime a dozen, good animators (specially in the constraints of a game for a limited system) not so much, but that's a whole other story, but in the spirit of helping out, which seems to be one of your pet peeves about the Jag comunity, I was offerng what I know how to do, I could also make the Sound track and SFX's for games, have done both in the past.
  16. "Eeeeaaaassseeeyyy money!" Bonus to whomever get that reference They have them regurlarly at Ebay, just keep an eye out Edit: not to self, read the thread first! Here I thought I was being all witty!!
  17. Apparently you didn't get my joke of adding the IIgs thread. I was attempting to poke fun at the ST vs. Amiga thread. My attempt failed I suppose. I actually really like my IIgs I think the IIgs is nifty as well. I just think "my computer is better than your computer" arguments get kind of old. The arguments are circular and will never be settled. The ST, the Amiga, the IIgs, hell the Timex Sinclair all have good uses. My IIgs thread was a bit of a farce for the reason above. There will always be things about a computer that will be better on one than another and for that reason I kind of laugh at the passion people have. I have t osay that people are actually having a productive conversation over there though...
  18. Speed may have been one of those. If you ever get to play with an 8MHz or faster accelerated IIgs, do so. It makes a huge difference. If the IIgs had been 8MHz, it definitely would have been more popular and would have been a competitor to all 68K machines. ___________ Agreed, highly recommended! Then of course you have to overclock that Mutha and make it run at 22mhz, burn out one Trasnwarp, buy a Zip GS (keep it stock) , and another Transwarp to try overclocking again!! I wonder how my wife hasn't divorced me yet!
  19. Unless Apple was intentionally hadicapping the IIgs to make the Mac look better. (didn't they do that with some late 680x0 machines to emphesize the new PPC ones?) ____________ That's exactly what they were doing, I've seem actual MEMO's from Apple restricting the APLE II team from using anything that would surpass the MAC as far as hardware, BUt Woz being who he was, still managed to sneak in a lot of stuff, and just made do with the "infereior" hardware and made it work better, in many ways, compared the first MAC's There were things you could do on the IIgs that you absolutely could not do on the First MAC's; Pre-Emptive Multi tasking OS anybody? Actually it took MAC's, what? 20 years to get theirs? It's funny, up to the time MAC OSX came out, every time somebody would brag about the MAC os I'd just kinda smile and excuse myself
  20. Ph my God guys!! I hit the mother load!!! Check this out! 2 Atari 400s ...1 is still in the box though teh box has seen better days 2 Atari 800s 2 Atari 800xl 1 is still in the box the other is out of the box but I have the box 1 Atari 130 2 tape decks 1 box of controllers And this is what the guys remembers off the top of his head!!!!! $200!! Woooooohoooooo!!! It seems I won't have to choose between the 130XE and the 800's after all!!
  21. See? this is the kind of stuff I needed to know!! Are you implying that the 130xe wouldn't be able to use some form of modern storage media, the sio to usb, for example? Would I really miss more memory, all I want to do is play games I truly don't remember the specifics, it was a craigslist post, and I've been emailing the guy directly, but the post expired so I can't go back to it, but like I said it was a 130xe with disk drive printer, monitor, and soft... I also found a huge lot of atari stuff, also for $200, still waiting on the guy's reply as he really didn't list the items, just posted a picture, but from there I can see at least 3 800xl's, one 400 and a monitor.
  22. You must forgive JagChris. He's a bit thick skulled at times. He knows Jagmod is essentially useless anymore yet he somehow still holds hope. Who knows, maybe Jagmod will make me look stupid and actually come up with a renderer before Christ's second comming. Then again....Im not holding my breath and neither should you. Also I am quite capable of doing 3D models on my own so the likely hood of me personnaly needing outside help is unlikely. WOW! Sorry to offer my help, sheesh...
  23. Same here. Sadly it seems that the available IIGS emulators fall far short. Yep Like I said Active GS is the better of them. This site: http://www.virtualapple.org/2gslistA.html has it, but like I said there is a downloadable version of this
  24. Well.. for what it is worth and what I have learned reading multiple threads here, there are things I would change about both of them but overall both machines have been really great and I like them both for different reasons. Like oranges are good but so are bananas. There are even things I like about Amiga, hard not to when there is so much Atari in it and there are things I don't like as well.. so what. Why not just own them all? That;s my plan!!! Curerntly have TI99/4a ZX81 ZX spectrum CoCo3 TS2068 Atari 130xe Commodore 128 Commodore 128d Apple IIc Apple IIGS Amiga500 Amiga 3000 Amiga CD32 Atari Lynx Still need a bunch!! Need an Atari 16 and 32 bit machines Need an amiga 4000 as far as computers go that would make me happy, then there are consoles!! Sega genesis + 32x + CD NES and SNES Atari 7800 Atari Jag Sega Saturn Dreamcast My wife is gonna divorce me!!
