  1. Is it known if the source code for Pounce still exists? Even though the prototype is very much a work in progress I bet that there are many within Atari Lynx homebrew community who would eagerly take up the task of developing the game to completion. Heck if the source code were available to me I would take up the challenge of learning to code for the Lynx.
  2. Wow, even with such terrible quality footage you can still see how amazing that the graphics are! These graphics and are more appealing than those in Rampage.
  3. Here is the problem with what you are suggesting: These IP's are owned by companies, and should someone start making a paycheck as you call it off those properties those companies that holds the rights to those IP's aren't getting a cut of that paycheck since this is not an licensed use of that IP. Then you get sued, and shutdown by the IP holders. For the most part homebrews have been left unchallenged by the holders of the IP since there hasn't been a profit model like you suggest. Should that start to occur it will be just like when Paramount Pictures sued thd people responsible for the fan produced work, Star Trek: Axanar, and as a result of the settlement very restrictive draconian rules were put in pace to curb further fan productions, and many of the successful fan productions that had done nothing wrong shutdown for good in fear that they were going to the next ones sued. Now all this being said for new original works not derived from existing IP's this could be successful.
  4. Sad that the Atari of later years (Atari Corporation) was run by Tramiel's whose business practices left such a distaste in the mouth of people that they avoided doing business with Atari. I can only imagine how differently things would have played out if the Atari (Atari, Inc.) prior to Warner Communications hadn't fallen due to video game market crash. With the talent of the old guard we likely would have had a properly supported 7800 released on time as well as hardware like the Lynx, and Jaguar that would have seen some groundbreaking things for those 3 systems that never realized their full potential under the leadership of the Tramiel's at Atari Corporation.
  5. Does anyone know where I could purchase Intellvision Flashback controllers? My understanding is that AtGames doesn't sell them separate from the flashback console. Is there anywhere else to get them, or does anyone have a couple of Intellvision Flashback controllers that they would want to sell?
  6. I purchased a Sear's Super Video Arcade off eBay. The console was listed as untested. When I powered up the console it would only display a black screen (tried multiple cartridges). I cleaned the unit out (blew a bit of dust that was inside the unit) and tried again, but still was getting only a black screen. I then decided to try not inserting the cartridge in all the way, perhaps about 1/4 millimeter from fully inserted into the cartridge slot (I found this to be a similar issue with the NES) and upon doing that the system was able to load the game without issue. Is this common? Is the cartridge port on the Sear's Video Arcade, and Intellivision consoles fiddly like this by design, or is my unit just a bit of an oddball? Overall not a big deal as I just need to remember that when I insert a cartridge.
  7. If there was any issue of creating controller expansion adapter that would work interfaced through the 9 pin controller port I suspect that the an adapter could be created that uses the expansion port on the Atari. Only drawback with that is most Atari 7800 consoles don't have the expansion port as the Tramiel's phased it out on later revisions of the console to reduce the cost (lost that and got a tight cartridge slot. Such a wonderful redesign of the console! I can say for sure that since I own multiple consoles that the earlier revisions of the console that have the expansion port don't thed to have the tight cartridge slot. I was a bit surprised by the tight cartridge slot on a later console I purchased as I never had experienced that back in the day with the console I had witb an expansion port.
  8. Easy enough to fix. The NES had the Four Score. I bet the only reason they use that and make it a 4 player game is because of how bad it already flickered and slowed down with just 2 players. I am sure that Atari could have easily released a 4 player adapter as I doubt that designing one would have been that complicated.
  9. Things I like about the Tengen version of Gauntlet for the NES. 1) Music 2) Powerup items 3) Story 4) Game has an definitive end after beating the last level 5) Game has an end game boss Things I don't like about it 1) Flickering graphics 2) Slowdown 3) Only 2 players instead of 4
  10. I haven't heard of that before. Atari & GCC were were working on Gauntlet for the Atari 7800?
  11. Oh, I don't blame them for going where the money was, and Tengen was instrumental in starting the stop of those anti competitive business practices of Nintendo. I still can't help, but lament that the two Atari's never did come together for the greater good of each other. At the very least Tengen could have licened the source code of their NES titles to Atari Corporation since they weren't bound by Nintendo's exclusivity contract being a independent publisher on the NES.
  12. I would love to see the Atari 7800 tackle this with Pokey once the 7800 XM is completed. I actually prefer some elements of this release over the arcade version. It was a bit disappointing that the NES got Atari arcade titles while the 7800 was being starved for games. Yes, I know that that Atari Corporation, and Atari Games were separate companies, but you would have thought that considering their shared history, and mutual dislike of Nintendo's anti competitive & monopolistic business practices that Atari Corporation, and Atari Games would have banded together against Nintendo. Oh well, a guy can always dream of what it could have been like
  13. Excellent information. I agree with your reasoning as to why the Sears version would be best to go with. Hopefully it will not be to difficult to get my hands on that model.
  14. I am looking to buy an Intellivision, and don't know the pros and cons of the different models. Which is generally considered to best model to own? Intellivision Master Component - model 2609 Intellivision II Intv System III I'm looking forward to playing Jr. Pac-Man on this system
  15. According to the IntellivisionRevolution newsletter "Anyone that experienced any issues will be notified in the next newsletter on procedures for an exchange".
  16. Just a FYI that the game is back for sale on the IntellivisionRevolution Store website for anyone looking for the game in cartridge form.
  17. I agree that the NES version of Gyruss isn't an abomination, and feel that it is far from that for all the reasons that I listed in my previous post, #530 in this thread. With all the additions, and changes to the game I have always considered it a sequel as opposed to remake of the game on the NES, and it would have been better titled Gyruss 2. I don't think of the NES version of Gyruss was ever intended to be an attempt at exact recreation of the arcade version.
  18. Such an inspired tune, and it was brilliant that the programmers at Konami realized how awesome it would be to have this tune accompanying the gameplay in Gyruss. You can't go wrong with either version of the tune, but it is really the NES version that I want to hear the Atari 7800 improve upon with Pokey & TIA. I agree about the graphics. The graphics in the NES version of Gyruss are not as good as the arcaede, or even the Atari 5200 version of the game. What I do like about the NES version of the game is that there you have to traverse the entire solar system and get to the Sun, and that there is a story of compelling you to complete your mission (I always have preferred games with objectives, and stories to reward the player for completing the objectives as opposed to just racking up points). Also I love that there are stage bosses since this adds new challenge to the game, and break up the repetitivness. As for the music I like how they jazzed up the Tocatta and Fugue tune, and added some additional tunes to the game.
  19. I want to see someone port the NES version of Gyruss to the Atari 7800, and use the XM. That game has some of most killer tunes ever heard in a 8-bit game.
  20. I can refer you to someone who mods Lynx's (both I and II). I bought a Lynx II from a guy on via eBay, and was so impressed with the professional quality of his work that just last week I sent him my Lynx I to mod as well. Can anyone tell me if the new screens increases battery drain, or decreases it? I'm hoping it is more power efficient since it contains much more modern components.
  21. The crowned jewel of Atari Lynx programming achievement has arrived, doodle, game, and all!
  22. It is too bad that Star Raiders never was developed for the Lynx. It is easily one my top favorite video games of all time. I gave countless hours of my childhood playing Star Raiders, finally earning the "mystery rank" of Atari on the hardest difficulty. Also played the 5200 version quite extensively as well, but will always have a special place in my heart for the 2600 version. I am a big fan of the space combat sim style gameplay that Star Raiders pioneered, and unfortunately we don't see many games in that genre these days. I would have loved for the 7800, Lynx, and Jaguar to have each gotten a Star Raiders game. It is especially disappointing that the Jaguar version never saw the light of day as that is known to have been in development at some point before getting cancelled. Hopefully someday we will see another proper Star Raiders game on a system like the new Atari VCS, and not some crappy game with the name Star Raiders slapped onto it like they did in 2011 for the game released on the XBOX Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network.
  23. I received my shipping notification in my email this morning. W00T!
  24. Curt might have the original order info, but there are several people including myself who have bought a pre-order from someone who originally placed the pre-order. Also in the years since the pre-orders were first made many people have moved. This means that for some amount of the pre-orders the information that Curt has is going to be out of date. I emailed Curt during the latter part of last year, and he said that there eventually will be a website set up where people can input & update their pre-order details. Swami, you are going to have to wait for the website. I gave Kurt my info, but he replied back to me telling me that the order info can be updated once the website is in place. No ETA on the website, but I suspect that we won't see it until after the boards are finalized, and ready for production.
